Thanks for the Spock's Beard vid, JD. You also opened my eyes to a new band, and that is always a thrill.
You may have heard of this guy, but I was very happy when I found him too. He was a member of Cry, Cry, Cry with Lucy Kaplansky and Dar Williams. I have actually seen Dar Williams live, and she is an excellent song writer and solo performer. I have never had the opportunity to see this artist. But, I have bought everything I have found that he wrote and performed. Have a listen to Richard Shindell, "The Next Best Western".
Now, on this Barney & Muppets thing.....have you people lost your minds?
Well, not about you, Goat Girl. From one GG to another, I know the signs when I see them. But, I don't know about Canadians. They might actually be sane. After all, they live up there where it's nice and cool. We live down here where it's blazing.
Here's a song I was thinking about this morning, but I was thinking of Glenn Miller, and the swing era. Interesting the parallels in this to more current musical styles. Another thing I remember about the swing genre is its use in cartoons in the 50s. What music!!! See what you think....
PEnnsylvania 6-5000 - written by Glenn Miller so he could remember the phone number of the Pennsylvania Hotel in New York City.
Jim Dandy: LOL! That was great! Tipptoeee throughhh the tlipsss with meeeee I have always like Tiny Tim! That bloke,s face behind the counter was a picture!
Well, the ice caps ARE melting. He was proof positive that anyone can make it in the entertainment world, it's all in the presentation. Hahaha! Thanks, Jim the Dandiest.
I used to play the uke, before I played the guitar. You have to start small, don'tchaknow?
HAS ANYONE HEARD OF AMY WINEHOUSE? SOMEONE RECENTLY TOLD ME ABOUT HER. SHE IS FROM GREAT BRITAIN AND IS AN ATTRACTIVE DARK HAIRED BEAUTY WITH "BIG" HAIR. THE SOUND CLIP I HEARD HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH BEING IN REHAB. STRANGE LYRICS IN MY OPINION, BUT SHE HAD A REALLY POWERFUL ALTO VOICE WITH A RASPY, BLUESY, JAZZY SORT OF SOUND TO IT REMINISCENT OF JANIS JOPLIN. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HEAR HAS HEARD OF HER?
Mousetrap: NOW DON'T I WISH I COULD VIEW THESE VIDEOS FROM MY WEBTV???!!! I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THIS UKELLELE ORCHESTRA VIDEO! THAT MUST REALLY BE SOMETHING TO BEHOLD!
Jim Dandy: OMG! TINY TIM..... NOW THERE'S A FLASHBACK! AND, YES, I SEEM TO RECALL TINY TIM'S WIDOW, MISS VICKIE, SAYING ON A TELEVISION INTERVIEW THAT HE WAS INDEED BURIED WITH HIS UKE.
Mousetrap: "A BIT OF ALRIGHT" EH, MOUSETRAP? LOL! I TAKE IT YOU LIKE HER BIG HAIR AND THE EXOTIC LATIN LOOK SHE HAS THEN, EH? LOL!! SHE'S A BRIT ACCORDING TO HER ONLINE BIO. BUT I CAN'T SAY SHE SOUNDS MUCH LIKE ONE TO ME.... SOUNDS MORE LIKE A TRANSPLANT FROM NEW JERSEY OR SOMETHING IF YOU ASK ME! LOL!! BUT I DO LIKE HER VOICE THOUGH! IS IT JUST ME, OR DO YOU THINK SHE SOUNDS SIMILAR TO JANIS JOPLIN TOO? NOT EXACTLY, BUT THE RASPY QUALITY TO HER VOICE I MEAN. THERE'S A SIMILARITY THERE I THNK! AND HER TONAL QUALITY SOUND A LOT LIKE A FEMALE SINGER WHOSE NAME I CAN'T QUITE REMEMBER.... WAIT, LET ME THINK.... AH! TIMI YURO!! THAT MIGHT BE IT!! YES, I THINK IT IS!! DOES ANYONE HERE REMEMBER TIMI??? WHAT A FABULOUS VOICE SHE HAD!!! HER BEST RECORDING YEARS WERE IN THE 60'S AND 70'S. POP SINGER WITH A LOT OF BIG HITS, BUT ONE OF HER BEST REMEMBERED SIGNATURE SONGS WAS "HURT". I THINK THIS NEW GAL AMY WINEHOUSE SOUNDS, AND MAYBE EVEN RESEMBLES TIMI YURO SOMEWHAT (BUT NOT THE HAIR!). WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT, MOUSETRAP? DO YOU REMEMBER TIMI YURO AT ALL? SHE WAS AN AMERICAN SINGER.... FROM THE WEST COAST I BELIEVE. AT LEAST THAT'S WHERE SHE STARTED HER RECORDING CAREER FROM WHAT I CAN RECALL ANYWAY. SHE MAY HAVE BEEN BORN ELSEWHERE THOUGH. BUT I DO THINK THIS AMY WINEHOUSE HAS A BIT OF TIMI'S LOOK AND HER VOICE CAPACITY TOO!! YES, I'M SURE IT'S TIMI YURO NOW.... THAT'S WHO AMY REMINDS ME OF, YES!!
We've had everywhere from Tiny Tim to Duane Allman, and now I'd like to throw in a little of what I've been into the last few weeks, seeing as I'm getting older next week, and more curious about things that have happened in my life time. Swing music fascinates me, it makes you feel good. It was used extensively in cartoons that came out when I was a kid, and to this day I enjoy watching those cartoons, if nothing else just for the music. So, tonight, I was pawing around YouTube, and I found this little Benny Goodman Number. I thought it was fun, and thought you guys might enjoy it too. Give it a try, you might like it.
THANKS, SW2!! I'M GLAD I WAS RIGHT THINKING YOU WOULD LIKE IT TOO. DON'T YOU THINK THAT'S FUN WHEN THE PENCIL IS DRAWING AS THE ACTION IS RUNNING? IT'S INTERESTING TO SEE HOW ARTISTS USE THAT TECHNIQUE. I THOUGHT THIS ONE WAS WELL DONE. THERE IS ANOTHER BENNY GOODMAN SONG ON YOU TUBE I FOUND INTERESTING TOO. TRY THIS ON. THERE ARE FEW WURLITZERS PLAYED IN THEATERS NOW, BUT IT USED TO BE SO COOL WHEN THEY COULD COME UP OUT OF THE FLOOR IN FRONT OF THE SCREEN, MUSIC BLARING. THAT WAS REALLY IMPRESSIVE FOR ME, THE YOUNG KEYBOARDS PUPIL. I THINK IT WAS THOSE EVENTS THAT GOT ME INTERESTED IN PLAYING THE ORGAN AT ALL.
AWW, J. DANDY, LET'S GO BACK TO THEN!!! OF COURSE, IT WAS ANOTHER DAY AND ANOTHER WAR. MAYBE WE SHOULD START A ROUND ON THE MUSIC OF THIS WAR COMPARED AND CONTRASTED (REMEMBER THAT ON HIGH SCHOOL EXAMS?) WITH THE MUSIC OF THAT WAR, AND SEE WHICH ONE PREVAILS. BUT, ONE YEAR AFTER THAT WAS FILMED, THE VIET NAM WAR OFFICIALLY ENDED...FOR US ANYWAY.
