General talk about movies, TV, radio, and other entertainment discussion.
Discussing favorite movies is a great topic but keep in mind some folks haven't seen the movie yet we may be discussing so don't give the endings away!
Hey cool - the Movie "The Babe" about Babe Ruth the baseball player just started on TV.
I was an extra in this movie back in 1991/1992, but because the movie is so boring, I never have sat through the whole movie. (I think I'll try right now!)
I remember going to the theatre when the first Star Wars was out. I was 12 years old and we talked about it in school for days! The biggest thing was to see how many times you could go. Back then there was no home videos yet so if you wanted to see it again you had to pay again at the theatre. We saw it that summer 7 times!
Eeeee, these young uns today!!! I remember going to the birthday party of a lad next door to me in about '82, '83? One of the Star Wars had just been released on video and he had it, it was a big thing, none of us had seen it before!
Rhiannon, When Star Wars first came out it was advanced technolgy never before seen in movies and a story line not touched upon very much. The fantasy of the other galaxies is what captivated people I think.
N E W S - The original Star Wars Trilogy will be finaly released on a 4-disc DVD box set on Sept 21st. (That is Star Wars IV, V, and VI)
The box set will include only the 1997 "special-edition" versions of the three films - also featute commentary from Lucas - and new interviews with cast.. 4th disk will include never before seen footage & a new 2 hour documentary, plus more.
The the finaly Star Wars movie (III) will be out in theaters in May 2005.
If anyone saw 'The Ring' and loved it,don't be talked into seeing the original 'Ringu'...such a disappointment after seeing the 'Hollywood' version first.
Hi Lamby!
Pay it forward with Haley Joel Osmit or something like that was reallllly good. I enjoyed it. Kinda neat to try to pay it forward in real life me thinks!
Hubby loved Dog soldiers. I went to bed half way thru it before the real gruesome stuff started. Gotta say for a low budget it was sure done well!
Was going to see Last Samurai tomorrow but it has left the theatres so now it is Master and Commander on the docket for tomorrows flick!
Hi, I have recently watched two films:
1. Pay It Forward: has Kevin Spacey & the young lad out of The Sixth Sense (forgotton his name lol) in it. I really enjoyed it, a happy & very sad film! :o)
2. Dog Soldiers: low budget British film about WereWolves! Scarey!!!
ha ha the oscar nominations are out, whale rider got a best actress nomination, and to everybody's suprise the somewhat old film compared to the rest city of god got four nominations.
it's about a girl growing up in a male ruled new zealand (tribal) society where she is the current decendant to their "prophet" figure and how there being no direct male decendant affect the community and her struggle to try and become what she wants against the male leader, her grandfather.
edit- it's essentially about modern woman's struggle in the antiquated systems of patriarchy!
thats as much as i can say without giving anything away.
Wrong turn was good. Believe it or not but Dragon Fly made me jump the worse. It scared me when that kid opened his eyes and when that hand grabed him by the arm and that wasn't even a horror movie.
I guess I was prepared for Wrong Turn. A friend said he watched it and had to check the doors. LOL
I watched the movie Instinct again with Anthony Hopkins. That was great.
Wasnt that Wrong Turn good? That is based around the 70's horror movie genre! I thoroughly enjoyed it! Not often I actually jump during horror movies anymore but that one did it!!
Dragonfly was kinda slow but had an ok, interesting story line. Nice ending tho
Hasn't been a lot of great movies this month out to talk about! Tuesday Open Range with Costner and Duvall is out on DVD or Vid. Should be good we hope!
I watched a couple of good movies the other day.
One was Wrong Turn a horror movie and man did they ever take a wrong turn. Make you give up hiking or dirt roads. LOL
The second was Dragon Fly with Kevin Costner. Really good movie about a doctor that lost his wife. :•)
1st was High Fedelity it reminded me of Phone Booth. I kept saying Ok action.
At the very end I thought this is finally gonna be good with the guy singing, he was good. Then it was over.
2nd was LA confidential Pretty good, lots of action. I would have rather it been set in present day.
3rd was Pirates of the Carribean which I didn't get to see because somebody decided to take it to work with him. Grrrrr
Let you know my next 3. Thanks for ideas.
Before I wipe out all this way off topic discussion,(OR ask that you erase these messages yourself) I will ask you folks to take it to one of the debate boards or the boiler room. THE INTENT Of this board is not for Magenta to relentlessly tell us all how bad movies are.. WE Got your point the first few times, Please give it a rest now Magenta Spiral. Read what the purpose of this board is. KEEP it on topic or leave the board, easy enough. THERE are more then a few debate boards to go discuss this at greater length, purchase one less DVD this month and help keep the site going with a membership so you can continue on this insessant debate on the appropriate board!!!
The purpose, one last time for those who arent understanding it, is to discuss and review movies old and new for folks who have yet to see them.
