King Reza: LOL, I had it all done, and went to save it and my computer froze up and all was lost! I havent been in the right frame of mind to try it again yet, but soon, sorry!
Since Czuch's reply has taken a long time, I thought maybe it'd be better if we'd choose the next person to be interviewed. I already have got a few, 5 I think, interview requests. If you people out there would like to be interviewed, or have a person in mind whom you'd want to see interviewed, do not hesitate to send me a personal message here. I'll announce the ID of the next 'lucky winner' on December 20th.
emmett:I totally agree. Besides, since the very first time you play a game your rating is determined as the rating of your opponent plus 400, it's very easy to misuse the resetting feature. Look at this graph for example. As you can see, my skill for backgammon is around 2150-2200 but my rating went up to 2528 in the beginning. Now, if I can reset my rating, I have the opportunity of getting to 2500 again in no time while it'll take me quite a long time to get to that from where I am now.
Grandmaestro: I disagree (respectfully)... A lot of my ratings have got pretty low at times, but I like to fight back. The way ratings work is that, as your skill improves, you can always climb up as high as your skill takes you. I enjoy that fight. It would be misleading if you just "reset" every time you lost a few games. Right now, my goal is to get all of my established ratings back over 1500. I think that the reset idea isn't valid.
BrainKing is going to launch this new game variant (I post this in permission to Fencer). (If you don't believe, ask Fencer:)).
Cloning Gammon: (Players think twice before capturing a piece)
Standard Backgammon (Cube can be used). There are no Gammons or Backgammons. Each time you hit an opponent's checker, you MAY add one extra checker of your color to your bar, marked with an X.(the destination place for your captured checkers). If no cube is used, you MUST add one piece to the bar. These extra pieces count as Race pieces, so you can bring them in anytime you want. You can move freely with the extra checkers.(they will keep their markers as long as any of your normal (non-marked) pieces is still not in your home area, see next section)
The maximum number of extra checkers is 5.
Scoring: You must have only your 15 normal (non marked) pieces in your home area your bear them out. You are still allowed to move marked (cloned) pieces, but, if you do, the piece will lose its marker and you must also put this piece in your home area. If no cube is used, you must put all pieces in your home area first.
If there is no cube, the winner is that player who bears all his or her pieces off, of course.
When the cube is used, each piece after the 15th you bear off, will score you a point (duplicated with the number on the doubling cube). If any player bears his last piece off out his or her home area (regardless of other (marked) pieces on the board), the game ends and that player also gets one point not multiplied by the cube.
Maybe there are still bugs in it. If you have suggestions, message me or Fencer. Reply (box)
Pedro Martínez: I don't think that we should be able to reset ratings... However, Hasami Shogi is a game I regret even being rated for, as it is utterly biased towards the person who moves first. I would like to wipe off all records of a rated game type, with the caveat that I can never play it again on this site. Hasami shogi would be the one I would wipe off as it is unfair. I am only responding, but I know that I should put this on the feature requests board, and I will...
Onderwerp: Re: Statistics; Top 50 Players by average game type
tonyh: Count again. count only the ones written in plain font, exclude the ones in italic. They're 38. Jason has a point: there are games that are either unrated or didn't have the sufficient number of moves to count towards your rating... So having played over 25 games doesn't entitle you automatically to an established rating.
Onderwerp: Re: Statistics; Top 50 Players by average game type
Aangepast door Jason (13. december 2006, 13:43:39)
tonyh: are you counting such as sphere froglet ? even though you have played 27 games only 23 have counted (maybe because of only one move made) 1510 23 (10/0/17) i have noticed the same with janus , i havent looked any further
Onderwerp: Re: Statistics; Top 50 Players by average game type
tonyh: You have 38 games with an established ranking. Summing all your established BKR's and dividing the sum by 38 gives about the number that shows in that chart as your BKR average. It may be off by a few points because I believe the value is not calculated in runtime, but only from time to time.
To see your name you must select the 1/3 of games option, because you still haven't reached the 46 game types needed to be shown on the default page...
Franz Kafka: Man, when in doubt, try some chess variations... These seperate the poseurs from the real players. I often check another player's ratings in other games before I play them... You should stick around. This is a great site. (Even if a few people did cheat, it's not about the winning so much as the process of playing that is enjoyable.)
Franz Kafka: That no vacations and no weekends apply. It's especially important for paying members since they can set autovactions, and this alerts them that autovacation will not help them if they don't play in time...
Fischer clock settings also display a red dot for similar motive
What happens if we set a Fellowship challenge match, where one of the Teams has a Knight or Bishop in, that does not have enough room for the game(s), in other words 50 already.
Gr☺uch☺: I think he may be talking about BK's notepad ;) Czuch Czuckers: I'm not sure if the AutoSave feature is implemented in the Notepad or not. If it is, the next time you enter the Notepad there should be a message saying that a backup was automatically saved and asking if you want to restore it.
Czuch Czuckers: word automatically saves and can be retrieved. I don't know about notepad.
Always save, save, save. That's a standard rule when using a computer. Save once, twice, often. When in doublt, save your work. When not in doubt, save your work. ;)
If you're talking about the notepad here on BK, I'll bet the answer is, Sorry Czuch. It's lost for life. :/
I just spent an hour and a half to finish answering my interview questions using my notepad, and just before saving the update my computer froze on me!!!!
Dont we have some way to retreive after such problems now???? I thought we did? Can anyone help me through this please?
emmett:I meant no offense. Sorry. No, I don't forget things as long as I keep interview request messages in my archive
If a person is requested more than once by different people to be interviewed, he/she will be on priority. If not, I choose people in alphabetical order. Now we'll be seeing some people changing their names to AAAAAAA
King Reza said that he had not had any more interview requests. I thought he had forgotten. No one ever mentioned the surprise element. Anyway, tone is as important as substance, and I will remember not to remind Reza of things...
