Guess changing the subject doesnt help, Dano's let it go...c'mon you can do it..try try try. BTW I dont view nor need a last action feature to know you live on these sites, Ive a REAL life to tend to...sorry to rub it in.
I had it happen this morning and after going into the panic..OMG all my games are going to time out, I had a double espresso, calmed down, trashed the brainking cookies and got in here right away...LOL
although it was quite funny to watch 'my' well known backstabbers
from iyt instantly starting to spin in the background after my first post here,
(exchanging messages means calling the other one's profile ) :D
actually I don't want either that opponents know which
games I review to get some tips about their usual tactics ...
the big-brother objection is also understandable.
maybe a more general display would do it like
'viewing games' - 'viewing profile' - 'playing' - 'inactiv'
and so on. inactive could cover the automatic refreshing,
if there's no action appearantly for half an hour. ~*~
Bernice: There are a few problems like that at the moment, Fencer is aware of them. I seem to get the problem more when more people are on line or if i try to get to my Friends page etc....
It happens on PC's as well as webtv, so you are not alone ;-)
M.M.
every link i click on comes up a white page, I then have to click refresh to get the page up...also I have noticed the site has suddenly become very slow...similar to what it did about a month ago :(
Well, I see a bunch of griping and moaning and groaning and complaining and I just want to agree with MM (I'm MM too) This is the best site that I have ever found and the Only one that I have given any of my hard earned money too. Thank you Fencer. Everyone else, drink some coffee, eat some chocolate and Play Some Game and HAVE FUN!
I agree MadMonkey. This area is for questions or comments about the GAME SITE, not for bad mouthing each other. That is why there is a general chat area. You know there is enough bad stuff going around in the world right now, why does it have to be here too??
I think some people are getting confused between a Chat Room & A Games Site ----- This is a Games Site !!!!!
People come here to play games, meet people & make friends (hopefully).
Fencer has given people a board that they can chat on to there hearts content & not disturb what this site is here for.
Lets all just be happy & have fun....
M.M.
I cant see where Blaze was rude. Earlier on people were complaining about posts here being non-Brain King material and she pointed out the general chat room. I see after she even supplied the link to get there, nothing antagonising was said and no rude language used...she even gave a smiley face:) No reason to attack based on that...lets live and let live and enjoy the games.
hey lamby thank you I only wish...maybe more of us should be like lamby and see if we can get a gathering more often...she's very, very right at times when people meet in person it makes it alot easier to get along with in the distance thank you lamby...and someday I hope we can meet...all of us
That is something I somewhat agree on as well Jet Boy.
I'm not too fond the "last action" info myself. Perhaps if there was the option to turn that feature off as part of the membership package or even change it to show logged on at such an such a time/logged off site at such an such time.
And you are right.. this is an awesome site! Fencer has worked hard for us all and his efforts are clearly showing.
I think I'm gonna like this Gothic Chess, though I don't usually play variants...
Great site!...The only thing I don't like is the "last action" for each player being shown. It's kind of like Big Brother letting everyone know where you have been going....Perhaps it can just show when "last seen on site", or "last log in" instead of exactly where on the site you are/were?
Sure are bossy for a newbie-pawn there Blazeinshore..
I don't see a thing wrong with Dakota saying how happy she was on THIS board. Considering all the rhetoric you and a few others have added to these boards in the last few days. It was good to actually read a 'nice' comment as opposed to the negative ones that are filling up these boards of late
well blazeinshore sorry if you don't like it but I'm new here and I tried to find the General Chat board but couldn't seem to find it...besides I seee people telling jokes on here and everything else so I don't see why I can't make a comment...if you don't want to see it then don't reply to it...or ignore it...and you don't have to be so rude about...I'm not being mean or mad or anything like that it's just that you could have said it in a nicer way...hi everybody...I'm still in a happy mood :)))))) take care all
Hi I hope nobody minds me putting this on this board :o) This will be mainly for people living in the UK but ofcourse everyone is welcome!!!
A few of us have decided to meet up at Alton Towers this summer (possibly August) so we can meet in 'real life' :o) Playing & chatting here is great fun & a lovely way to meet new people & make friends. If anyone is interested in joining us for a great day out & to actually meet each other, please message either myself or Paula28. We still have to confirm a date, so once we find out who is interested in coming along we can try & set a date to suit everyone :o)xxx
I just logged in tonight and found a new thingy above my game list, its highlighted and green and asks me if I wish to sign up for a particular tournament, is this a new feature, are we going to have lots of these appear on our game sheets, and if so can we choose not to have them, or only have the ones in the games we play? please? :-)
the thing is, if you are going to have a game, you should have the correct rules, they are rules which the majority of sites and players in the world follow.
So we should not have the illegal move, nor should we have draws in rated backgammon matches. I always figure if you are going to do something you may as well do it right :-)
I think that the option should be there where the players should be able to choose whether only the overall score counts, whether each game counts or whether both count towards ratings.
I think the only time where I would say it was unfair for the higher player not to lose ratings points for losing single matches in a series is with tiemouts but with the vacation feature here I would think that would be unlikely to happen.
Also, there is the danger that high rated players would only play series if the current rules are in place as they know they will proably win overall against lower rated players, making it harder for players to gain ratings points.
Also in the real world, players accept that ratings tend to balance out over a longer period of time with good results balancing bad. As the site on the ratings system says, if you have earned your rating over a greater number of games, the occasional loss should not affect you.
As I have alreasdy said, any drop would only be affected by the number of games. For instance, if there was only a 100pt gap and the higher rated player lost one game from five there would be no drop (or a negligeable one at best) but if there was a 500pt gap and the lower rated player managed to take one game from five, they should be rewarded for their achievment. In the real world high rated players have to keep their guard up all the time, so why not here?
Surely if there is a 500pt gap and thew lower player runs it very close this should be reflected with a ratings change.
The only other thing that comes to mind is a list of all the games with check-box's for each game. (but that would take up a lot of screen space).
Possible when someone is about to create a new tournament, have 3 options: (1) Create Tourny for single game. (2) Create Tourny for multiply games. (3) Create Tourney for all games.
If they pick single or all games, it can go to a screen like it is now. If they pick multiply games, it could go to a screen with a list of all games with check boxes for them to choose just a few games.
Yes, it is possible but each Add Game click would require the page reload (it must be in JavaScript without page reload). I will think it over.
About tournaments - it must be tested but I think that the main functionality is correct, I hope ;-)
Jondownie, I agree with you, to a certain extent. I think players should still have the OPTION of creating a match with the current rules. But, I would also like to be able to do the following:
invite a player to a 2 game match, one of each color. Both games count for all purposes.
Pente and Keryo pente are usually played in pairs, so this is just a shortcut for having to send two separate invites--- Also, thep layer, under the current system, can decline the invite for the game where he is black, and accept the one where he is white.
Fencer, I think this would be a valuable addition ot the site, it is one of the few areas where I feel the site is lacking, because just about everything else here is great. Of course, I think priority should be given to enabling 2 game sets as an option for tournaments as well.
I'm not sure exactly how to program it - but have 1 list box on the left of the screen (with all the games in it) - on the right side of the screen have an empty list box (where you add which the games) - and in the middle you have "Add Game" and a "Remove Game"
If I explained what I'm thinking in my head well enough, would that solve the problem? Then a user can just select 1 game at a time, add it to the second list box.
And I see that you are adding/testing the 2 games (1 of each color) thing for the tournaments - GREAT! Good Job! :-)
Erm, perhaps I should be more specific. Sorry :-) Here is the example - when you define a new tournament, you have to select one game type for it. You simply click on the combo box and select one game type, only one. But I would like to change the "combo box" to a "list" where you should be able to select more game types at onces. With Internet Explorer etc. it is possible to click on several items with holding down the ctrl key and the result is that more than on item in this list is selected.
It is possible with WebTV too?
he means something like more than 1 item at the same time... like IE (Internet Explorer) you can have many things (windows) goin at once... unlike MSN TV (Formerly WebTV) where we can only do ONE thing at a time...
I agree, the winner's rating should not drop, why should it,the player earned it.If you are willing to play, you are willing to lose.losers should not whine about it..learn from it...have a positive atitude = do better the next game.isn't that what life is all about?nitzche said"whatever doesn't kill me,just makes me stronger".remember, its just a game, and we are all mature enough to know that & deal with it(I hope).
Fencer, what do you mean by selecting more than one item on a list? With web, it is only possible to do one thing at a time on the screen. Not like windows.
It all depends on the ratings gap. What if the reslt overall and the results of the individual games was taken into account?
According to the way ratings work only a 500pt gap should ensure wins all the time so surely over a larger number of games the effect would subside.
Big ratings will usually win one offs but smaller ratings can pull off small shocks.
