Onderwerp: Re: Re It wouldn't matter if it wasn't for them wanting to turn scripture into law
(V): I love the USA ,I travel there often my best friend is a Pennsylvania Republican , but I really don't see the collision course of the two parties ending well
Onderwerp: Re: They figure Romney will forward their agenda when he gets elected anyway.
Artful Dodger: Do you agree a woman should be forced to carry to term a child from rape or incest? I also agree in ending the pregnancy if the life of the mother is in danger
Onderwerp: Re: Re Can't waste semen, as it is all that is needed to create life
(V): In a perfect world Republicans would like to outlaw birth control, or at least their "crazy uncle" extreme right would. That's basically how I look at the present two parties. Both have "crazy uncle" factions, the extremists of their respective parties out of the mainstream. In the current situation the right's "crazy uncle" has taken control of the Republican agenda
Onderwerp: Re: How does the US Christian Churches justify the change in policy?
(V): They figure Romney will forward their agenda when he gets elected anyway.McCain had a backbone and wouldn't be as likely to cave to their wishes in regards to "personhood" and the outlawing of abortion nationwide.
(V): Even if they were to implement these new photo ids, you would think it would be done in a non election year as not to put things on such a short schedule leading to the federal election.I don't think both sides intent is maximum turnout though
Onderwerp: Re: this Republican admits it is intended to block Democrats from voting.
(V): It's kind of ironic that American soldiers fought(fight) wars to allow democracy and free elections , but somehow that right is compromised in the USA,. That's pretty sad, vets must shake their heads
(V): This campaign to suppress the vote is a real head shaker. Not only do so few vote already, but even those putting the new laws in place admit the cases of fraud a miniscule, like 10 cases in the last decade. In fact , this Republican admits it is intended to block Democrats from voting.
Onderwerp: Re: I'm telling ya , I wonder when the next civil war will start in the USA. The hate between the left and right is at a level I have never seen before...
(V): I really think the media is the main reason behind it.It started on the right, but the left have decided to hit back just as hard , which is fair of course, but both sides should really bring it down to a dull roar for the sake of the country.Of course here in Canada there is division between the left and right(I always vote conservative, can't stand our Libs) but the discourse is nothing close between our divisions.A new station started a few years ago (dubbed Fox News North) It's even too extreme for most Canadian conservatives such as myself, and has many guest from Fox News , but it's audience is very small http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/
Onderwerp: Re: lifted 2 hours ago off the Glen Beck website
(V): I'm telling ya , I wonder when the next civil war will start in the USA. The hate between the left and right is at a level I have never seen before.I blame the media on both sides for amping up the discourse to a large degree , but the politicians have done nothing to calm things down.I used to be able to watch the cable shows from both sides of the fence , but now both make me ill with their childish "gotcha" garbage.I long for the days when journalists just report the facts , and their was a degree of respect from both sides.Issues can be discussed in a calm mature bipartisan manner , but it's so rare these days.
Onderwerp: lifted 2 hours ago off the Glen Beck website
He said what?! Obama's most outrageous statements – Glenn Beck www.glennbeck.com/.../he-said-what-obama’s-most-outrageous-state...2 hours ago – PRESIDENT OBAMA: That generally the constitution is a charter of negative liberties. It says what the states can't do to you. It says what the federal government can't do to you but it doesn't say what the state government or the federal government must do on your behalf. And that hasn't shifted and one of ...
Onderwerp: Re: The bible belt will love Ryan, there is loads of video of him singing her praises
(V): Kinda like their support of Israel, it's strictly strategic to a large extent. I suppose Israel feels the same , but I doubt there is overflowing love of Jews specifically.
Onderwerp: Re: The bible belt will love Ryan, there is loads of video of him singing her praises

(V): It would be one thing if he just found her books interesting , but he totally buys into her philosophy. It will be interesting how he responds in the inevitable interviews where they run the clips where he's slobbering all over her philosophy , a mere 3 years ago
Onderwerp: Re: That's not to say we end up electing better leaders
(V): Not really the same, people go to church willingly in most cases. There is so much money spent on political advertising , an agreed upon donation towards the national debt would at least provide something to show for it.
Onderwerp: Re: But it seems that his money being "off shore" is not illegal.
(V): re : He'd be screwed if he acted like this in the UK
Funny you should say that.I was speaking with someone yesterday, and we both agreed Romney would never get away with his act in a Canadian election. Our politics lacks the flash of a US election, but the press does grill them on boring substance issues. That's not to say we end up electing better leaders
Onderwerp: Re: But it seems that his money being "off shore" is not illegal.
(V): Going to the pub every night till close is legal , but wouldn't score high points for a presidential candidate.Of course certain tax havens are legal , but the optics are bad for Romney in this one.He apparently disclosed over a decade of returns to McCain when he was being considered for the VP job last election, I suppose transparency doesn't extend to the electorate.
Romney spokesperson : "To that point, you know, if people had been in Massachusetts under Governor Romney’s health care plan, they would have had health care."

Iamon lyme: I don't consider wanting fair taxation to be an obsession with other peoples money. It may be the the proper spin if the candidate you support has loads of money offshore, and would rather take a battering rather than disclosure. Both parties turn a blind eye to the weaknesses of their candidates though, politics have become far too predictable, and the lack of any bi partisan work on behalf of the public is killing the USA. Mitch McConnell even went as far as to suggest being non cooperative was the intent of the Republican senate, that does nothing but hurt the country, power has become more importent than the health of the nation, he should be ashamed
Onderwerp: Re:but somehow there is no record of the" birthers" asking the CIA and other agencies how they could allow such an error to occur
(V): Are you saying the "birthers" who are selling this conspiracy have so little respect for their fellow Americans that they would knowingly mislead them?
(V): It's pretty ironic how this is the one conspiracy theory they gladly buy into. The mighty USA with all their supreme levels of security were apparently duped by a simple family from Kenya.I would think they would be more concerned with how this security breach could happen, but somehow there is no record of the" birthers" asking the CIA and other agencies how they could allow such an error to occur
(V): They could probably tell you what he had for lunch on any given day, but why spoil the propoganda, apparently the "birthers" think some simple family can put one past all security channels
Artful Dodger: I guess the CIA is in on the cover up too.You right wing nuts really think he hasn't been checked out by a number of high level security channels.
Onderwerp: Re: I wonder why gay people are so keen on joining such an iffy proposition other than for the legal aspects.
(V): Canadians seem much more interested in the preservation of the separation of church and state than the USA.You see far less advocacy from the church in political circles.Would our extreme right like to outlaw gay marriage? of course, but the discourse is far less rabid. If a Canadian politician was invoking the bible in regards to political issues, it wouldn't play well here , they would be regulated to fringe stays. Our politicians have no shortage of issues to screw up, but religion doesn't tend to be one of them
(V): When you consider marriage has about a 50/50 success rate these days, I wonder why gay people are so keen on joining such an iffy proposition other than for the legal aspects.I don't see the need for marriage regardless of the sexual preference, but I support the access to marriage for gay couples 100%
(V): I'm a little conflicted on this one.I don't think there should be a feeding frenzy attacking an anti gay marriage stance anymore than there should be attacks on pro gay marriage. Both sides are entitled to an opinion , rightly or wrongly , and if it is voiced respectfully and peacefully. The " witch hunt" mentality isn't attractive from either side, and having the usual crowd like Palin trying to gain political bandwagon points is sadly typical. This type of behaviour actually vindicates the same type of response to another company stating a pro gay marriage stance
