Pedro Martínez: If she is indeed talking about currenly avtive games, then about the only use I can see for this suggestion is that it would create a watch-list of potential players to add to one'e enemies list, thus avoiding the frustration of playing games against opponents who don't actually know who they are playing against!
(I also get irritated playing against people who mindlessly wish "GL" every time a new games starts in a multi-game match, mostly completely unaware that the new game is actually an extension of the existing match, so all the niceties have already been exchanged, and I suspect that in most cases they are a part of this group.)

Onderwerp: Re: gammon variants and 'glitch' in dice program
nobleheart: I originally bought a paying subscription in the hope that my support would help to get these deficiencies corrected. No matter how responsive Fencer is, we should not lose sight of the fact that this is his business and some of us are his paying customers. But this customer, for one, will no longer support this site when his subscription expires unless some of these matters are attended to. Being a customer is entirely a voluntary matter. There are plenty of sites where backgammon is played according to well-established conventions (note that I have been careful not to use the word "official rules" so please no more protracted discussion of that).

I was playing a 10 wins game of Backgammon. I resigned the first game, expecting that the second game would then start, but unfortunately the entire game disappeared and I lost the match! Could we have a feature which allows resigning an individual game rather than the whole match?

Onderwerp: Re: cloak mode
AbigailII: What a pointless discussion! I regularly attend a REAL bridge club, and I have never seen anybody with a cloak and mask on. We all do just as we like, and nobody cares whether somebody is in the game room or in the bar. But nobody hides!

I'm having a real problem with what "privacy" is being breached if I see you browsing a discussion board.

I have an even bigger problem that you don't even identify your country in your profile. One of the really nice things about this site is that it is international, and it is NICE to know what country you opponent is from. How does THAT interfere with your privacy??????

Onderwerp: Re: cloak mode
AbigailII: What an unnecessarily nasty word "peek" is in this context! There are all sorts of reasons why it is nice to know whether somebody is actually playing games, or just browsing bulletin boards. Helps you decide whether to hang around for another move. I've said it before: if you go to a REAL backgammon/chess/bridge club, you don't wear a cloak, Everbody knows whether you are playing games, or reading the notice board in the lobby. Cloak mode is a totally unnecessary cop-out!!

Mongoloid: If you go to a real live Backgammon Club, Bridge Club, Chess Club or whatever, you actually waive any right to privacy. People can see what you are wearing, whether you are scowling or smiling, and what game you are playing. or if you are in the lobby browsing the notice board. If you really don't like it, you don't join the club. Why should this Brainking Club be any different? Membership is not compulsory! It is completely voluntary, and I think if people believe that their "privacy" is compromised, there is a VERY simple solution. (By the way, I am wearing a red dressing gown as I write this, so for those sensitive souls out there, PLEASE don't look)

Onderwerp: Cloak Mode
I posted this on "Feature Discussions" but since the thrust is here, I'll re-post it:

I think "cloak mode" is a real cop-out. What has anybody got to hide?? If I am ready for bed and my only opponent is browsing discussion boards, I know to switch off amd come back tomorrow. If my opponent is actually playing games (isn't that why we are all here?) - and especially against me - I can stay up a few more minutes and maybe have a few more moves. Can anybody justify why we need "cloak mode"? Who on earth is ashamed of what they are doing on the site. This is the worst feature introduced to BK...

Aangepast door pgt (21. maart 2005, 10:53:08)
Some idiot has filled up about 8 pages full of invitations. (I think I counted 493 invitations, which is completely ludicrous.) Could we have a feature which limits the number of open invitations to some reasonable number - like say 20 or 30? If players really want to play 400 games, they can always enter another 20 or 30 invitations when teh original ones have been accepted.

Onderwerp: Re:Autovacation
Aangepast door pgt (14. maart 2005, 08:26:20)
Fencer: I have been on this bandwagon before, but here is an example:
A Hyperbackgammon Tournament with 4 days per move (I can't IMAGINE why anybody would need to think for 4 days to make a hyper move!) began on 13/02/05. I am playing TWO games against one player, whio has made ONE move in ONE game, and NO moves in the other - although her last signon was 12/03/05. She currently has 326 unfinished games, and in 289 it is her turn.
Now I am not a young man, and I figure on being about 5 years older before these games are completed. What I want to know is, if I don't live for another five years, do I get 3 months autovacation after my funeral before the tournament can proceed? Or do I need to rely on GRENV to alert you to my demise so that the tournament can proceed?

There was a discussion some time ago - not sure whether it was here, or on "tournaments", so I'll post it on both) about having a tournament option with no vacation days and no automatic vacations. Has there been any progress on making this an option? It would certainly eliminate a lot of the gripes, and those of us who like to play a few fast games would not be frustrated with long tedious boring dull tournaments (especially hyperbackgammn!) which go on for weeks and weeks, when 90% of the games are finished in a couple of days
