coan.net: well 2 clicks is beter then the way i went but still have you have 10 teams you want to leave just clicking 10 check boxes then submiting it all at once would be nicer.
mctrivia: Clicking on the team that you are on listed in your profile takes you right to that team in that fellowship (allowing a quick click of "leave") (so once you are looking at your team list in your profile, a total of 2 clicks from leaving the team)
On the fellowships tab under My Profile it lists all the felowships and teams you are on. Would be nice if there was checkboxs to remove yourself from this page instead of having to remember which you are in. go to the felowship page. find team on list. look who is on that team then select leave. for each team you want to leave. Leaving a fellowship not as big a pain but might as well add the feature while at it.
For my home set, I very carefully applied small (~1/8-inch) rub-on letters ("S", "G", "K", etc.) to the bottom right corner of each piece (other than the pawns, which I just left alone). I used lower-case letters ("g","d", etc.) for the obverse (promoted) side of all of them.
A nice result--a unobtrusive little reminder whenever needed.
MadMonkey: I don't get to play as many games of Shogi (japanese chess) as I'd like here but let me see if I understand the problem. You're not Japanese. You'd like to play with the traditional kanji pieces but you are stuck playing with the international pieces unless you want to lose alot of games while learning. I had this same problem ... and I didn't need a brainking feature to solve it. At first I simply changed my settings here at brainking to reflect the kanji but after losing a few games from moves that could've been avoided had I used the international symbols I went back to the drawing board. There is a great program out there called "Shogivar". If you can find it and download it (free) you'll be on your way. it uses only the traditional pieces and its playing strength is average. You can play game after game against it until you've learned the kanji pieces. That's what I did and it didn't require any hover=power feature here on brainking to complete.
MadMonkey: I don't play the game, but as an idea - can you find any game pieces/images that include both the traditional image with the "move tip" both on the same piece?
I say this since I think it would be easier for Fencer to add another set of game pieces to choose from.
When you have time Fencer , could you add a Setting in the Japanese Chess settings please.
Like many here i have learnt the rules and enjoy it, but at present i can only use the International pieces (ones that show move directions).
I would like to learn the proper pieces (with the characters on top). So i was thinking maybe a Javascript Setting so if you hover over a piece on the board, the corresponding one shows.
This would save having to keep changing settings and make it easier to learn the proper pieces
Fencer: Yeah, but you'd need to work on the backgammon graphics anyway, to be able to distinguish between "race" and "normal" stones on the bar. (The latter are required to be played before you can move any non-barred stones, the former don't. "Race" checkers appear in Crowded Backgammon, Backgammon Race, and Cloning Backgammon). ;-)

Fencer: awesome Thanks any chance on another pond feature? I know several that would like to be able to sign up for ponds by checking which ones they want to join (from the main page)and doing it with one mouse click instead of having to sign up for each one individually and end up having to see 3 pages per pond.(main, pond, signup, back to main) signing up for 10 ponds means seeing at least 30 pages ---just something to think about while making the site more user friendly!.
-may want to get rid of "another test pond" while you are at it... it will never start
Fencer: if to many combinations you could make the pieces on the fly or just make the pieces with clear background and use css to overlap with the board.
Fencer: No it's not just about one white and one black on the same position. It can happen that there is one white and lots of blacks(or vice versa) at the same place.I don't know anything about programming but i guessed it would'nt be as simple as creating just another version of backgammon. It is still my dream to see the game here, and i'm sure it could bring a lot of Greeks to the site as it seems to be there national game! Thanks for your consideration.
Carl: Plakoto requires to create new graphics because we never used combinations of white and black pieces at the same position. Or is it only about "one white and one black"?
Would it not be desirable to display the image of the position and the last move? So, we could enjoy the position, without overloading the BrainKing site.
I do not know to what extent the option above change the game pages.
Just a thought Fencer, but if the opponent has the Setting on Nobody (and friends only for certain people), can the message box be removed or does that happen ? It would just save writing things that would never get read, this should really happen on Blocked opponents as well
If you're playing a multi-point match, there's a table with previous results. It will say things like 'resigned', 'time-out', etc. For gammon games, if the game ended naturally, it will say "All pieces out.", regardless whether the game was won with a (back)gammon or not, or the current value of the cube. It would be interesting to see this information; so I suggest that wording for cubed games be changed into "Backgammon", "Gammon", "All pieces out", or "Double rejected" for backgammon, gammon, 'regular' wins or rejected doubles; in all cases followed by number of points scored (or the value of the cube - given one, the other can be infered). So "Gammon (4)" means that the winner won by gammon, after the cube was doubled.
I find message notifications that were introduced recently most usefull in many situations. But I'd like to suggest some improvements:
* Bug notifications - I don't need to be notified of my own posts in bugs. I mean, I know I posted there :) * Board replies - I'd like a new "sub-option" when activating these notifications to activate them only for boards that are not my favourite boards. I read my favourite boards every time I see a red number indicating a new post. I need to be notified of replies to my messages on other boards, that I visit less often. * Board replies 2 - same thing as with bugs. If I reply to my own message (sometimes I do that, to keep the message in the same thread) there's also no point in sending me a notification about my own posts.
While I'm at it, I think it would be interesting to add another option for bug notifications - the hability to subscribe to a bug. This way people could be notified about the bug's progress without having to post there. Let's suppose my opponent finds a bug in our game and posts a bug and then informs me about it. I could just subscribe to it and be automatically notified about its progress... especially since I may be an important part into clarifying some aspects of the game as well...
Fencer, i use my notepad a awful lot, as i tend to post a lot Hence my list in the notepad tends to get rather long Could we please have a Delete button at the bottom of the page to delete ALL selected Notes like we have in our Message Box. There is a 'Select all on this page' tick box there, but that just moves Notes to folders, maybe a Delete beside that
Thad: Right now you can make the same invitation up to 9 times at once - there's a "number of games" option just below the time settings and above the number of games in match option.
As to a game template, I think that it would be useful (and more or less easily implementable) at least when challenging someone for a rematch (when you get a message with the outcome of the game and then have the option to send a game invitation for the same person)
Another repeated request: Since blog comments now are not allowed at the BrainKing.com board and people struggle to post a comment at the blog site.
Shouldnt a board "Blog Comments" make life easier for those brave people who still dare to comment about the site's annoying bad performance and other topics they (the rattlebrained blog trolls) feel important.
In the statistic page, you see the top 50 of some statistics. And if you are not in the Top 50, your score is mentioned below of the list. Is it possible to mention also the current ranking you have with that score?
pauloaguia: Here are my thoughts on your suggestions:
1. I agree. I have turned off this information a long time ago, and always forget that the fellowships have this. A "Statistics" tab in the fellowship would be a good place to put this (and other things mentioned below)
2. Well I first agree since many pages do have a lot, but then I got to thinking what can be moved to different tabs. Finished & running tournaments (leaving open tournaments on main page). Same with challenges maybe.
3. It would be nice if when you click the "create tournament" instead of the game which was up being the only option to choose from from the drop down - that all fellowships games were listed would be nice. When I create site-wide tournaments, it is nice because I can create a tournament, hit the back button, change the important information and submit again. In fellowship, I have to go all the way back to the begining to start a new tournament.
4. This would be hard - since you have to pick your players who will play in each challenge - to have a checkbox to select them all - you still would need to go through each one to select your players - so I would not think this would be much of a time saver.
5. I agree - and in the "Fellowship list" which lists all the fellowship, instead of the long list of games that each fellowship offeres, it can be replaced by "All games"
6. A good thing for the Statistics tab
7. A good thing for the Statistics tab - but would also like to remind BIG BOSSes to also put the information on their discussion boards. I turned this option off on many of my fellowships because the BIG BOSSes were writing a message on the board, then sending the same thing out. I myself read all the discussion boards, so I don't need to read a message twice so I turned the all-fellowship messages off. So as a reminder to BIG BOSSes, to get to someone like me - make sure you also write in your fellowship.
Fencer: I tried yesterday to play on here through the Nintendo DS Opera Browser - I was able to make 1 move, but after that I gave up - just so much information that loads was slowing it down and making it hard to scroll to the place I needed to be to make the move.
I'm not sure if the site recognized it was a mobile version or not...
Idea: Go and register BrainKing.mobi - and then make a mobile version of BrainKing that has the very basic of information. Then you don't have to worry as much about having the site try to recognize which person is viewing the page from a mobile device or not.

I would like...
a place where I can see a list of my fellowship's BKR at all games, and the standing position as well without having to set some setting that is related to the main page and whose side effect is activating this information in fellowships as well - I like to keep my main page clean
that the fellowship's information wasn't all cluttered in one page. We have so many pages with severall tabs already, why not the fellowship page too? (I find that Waiting Fellowship Games tab rather silly all alone by itself when there is so much information that should be in its own tab as well)
to be able to create a fellowship tournament without having to look for a link for it in the teams section. Most tournaments are created with more than one game type anyway - why keep it in the teams? Why not in the tournaments section, bellow? If I'm grabbing stats from past tournaments and want to create the next month's tournament why do I need to scroll the page to a more or less unrelated area?
to have checkboxes by the list of challenges from other fellowships so that I could easilly accept / reject a batch of them
the hability to define a fellowship as an ALL GAME fellowship, so that when new games are created, the teams are automatically created as well
a quick overview chart so that I'd know at a glance what fellowshi members are in what teams and I knew what teams I'm not yet registered with; or what teams need more players; or how many games a certain player has played by a specific team so I'd know not to always call the same ones over and over; or...
for a BigBoss to know how many members a global fellowship message was sent to or how many have that option disabled even before sending such a message. In some fellowships, many players have them disabled so the BigBoss will think he's alerting many people for something when in fact he's just talking to himself.
Ok, I think that's enough already (for now, at least). I know I'll never get to see them all implemented but I'd really like to see some of them (especially the ones I've already asked about in the past).
Eriisa: I guess that's possible (although with my style sheet, there's not input field for notes...), but it still remains awkward. You still have to map the coordinates to the screen. Possible - but playing a game of chess with just the board and the list of moves is possible as well.
The link to "go to next Frog game" is not there if use the "lightweight" settings.
Fencer: Actually I stand corrected. Seems like I picked preciselly the wrong types of games. Attax, Backgammon, Ludo and Minishoggi are perfectly playable (though in the later case I can't see the captured pieces properly when in compact mode). So it seems like it's not a long way to go - just some adjustments in particular games...
