playBunny: hey thanks very much. why do people play so many at once .especially chess.? i don`t know i like to play & kibbutz. its like the old men in the park .they all have clocks& play lightning chess.you need to contemplate.make plans .to me chess is a 1 on one thing .ok maybe 2 at once. otherwise you`re just going down the line .move move move. no time for chit chat .how well can you play that way.to each their own. thanks again for the info. mookster
If you mean in Chess: Your opponent's rating was about 1650 so you'll get 2050 from those two games. Keep winning and you'll end up somewhere near #100. But any losses will pull you down. If you found the games easy then you might like to challenge someone at 1800 or higher, or go for a biggie from the top 100. ;-)
The provisional rating appears after the 4th game in each game type so another couple of ganmes of Chess and Backgammon should do the trick.
And, yep, just pick someone who sounds interesting or nice, or whatever, and invite them. You might want to go to their profile and click their Started Games pages. Many of the people with several hundred games going at once will take a long time to play a match with. Those with a few games are likely to be speed players. There's an informal club called the Quick Players Club. Most of the people listed therein will play at a decent speed.
playBunny: thanks play bunny. well i beat # approx 250 a couple of times .is that good. what do you do pick out a # from bkr list & invite them. where would i see my provisional rating.just curious is all. thanks again mook53lhd
Fellowship: You can join as many as you want. Some fellowships have tournaments for their own "members", and if you want - you can join only 1 fellowship team where you can play in site tournaments against other fellowships. (And just because you join one team does not mean you can not belong to other fellowships also.)
While I'm talking about Fellowship, feel free to join The Gammon Cube Fellowship - we have many tournaments for fellowship members, plus join all site tournaments, plus have our own private discussion areas to chat. (You can also check out the Fellowship discussion board to find out about others.
Ponds - Check out the Ponds Discussion Board - Read back and hopefully you will learn a little more about that also.
playBunny: Thanks for the kind welcome.I feel like a kid in a candy store at this site but I'm not sure which item to tackle first.Ponds,Fellowships,Teams......i Know I'll enjoy them all
Hello everyone,I have just become a tax paying member in good standing(well, call it a figure of speech and I was interested in the concept of a team.Does one need to play a variety of other games or could I stick to only backgammon style games? I also have been too lazy to read the info on how to join the teams or ponds, could a giving soul give me a crash course? regards JD

Chessmaster1000: I feel your pain in having a computer crash. I've learned that lesson too...painfully. If it was a power surge, are you sure it fried your Hard Drive? Most of the time, it just gets the computer. If you take the drive out and put it into another computer...maybe you can get some of your files recovered. If you get an external drive, just PM me and I will give you a copy of this little program.
I have invested in a USB external drive. One of the best things I ever did. It makes backing up a snap. Although, I hated the bundled backup program. I wrote my own simple copy program (that will not fail if the file is locked). This way, I have, almost, a mirror of my hard drive. I can get to any backup file at any time without having to go through the "Restore" process.
Fencer:
Because i am a moron. I should keep a copy of everything but i didn't.......And now.........
My main belief is "never say never!", but i believed that what happened, would never be possible to happen......
And what about creating a new paying Rook-account while keeping this until my participation on the Gothic tournament end........? Is it allowed.......?
playBunny:
Thanks......
Very glad that you didn't suffer physically yourself I never suffer for that kind of things. I suffer only frim deaths and diseases of known (to me) people......But that heppened to me was not something i liked.........
Chessmaster1000: Why didn't you follow my good advise and submitted the unfinished translations on the Translator page or at least send them to me? It could save a lot of work.
Your first 25 games go towards establishing your BKR. Until then you have a provisional rating. Putting it simply, the rating at 25 games is the average of all your opponents plus 8 points for each win and -8 for each loss. (So choose the highest opponents that you reckon you can beat, lol).
If you like, here are two in-depth articles on the formula. It's a chess formula but is used for all games. USCF Rating System and Chess ratings. They're a bit mathematical but have a read of them and see how much sense they make.
can someone please tll me how these are computed, for chess & baggamon. do you have to play a set # of games first? is it only for members? mook53lhd thanx ps so does my query now appear below as new. + look for answer there. yeah stupid ? i agree. i`ll find it
Chessmaster1000: George! I'm really sad to hear of your loss. Very glad that you didn't suffer physically yourself, but that loss of work and collections and data - it's awful! My strongest condolences.
As some of you that i was playing a game against, have noticed, i haven't been connected for about a week. I had a very horrible situation: An amazingly violent thunderstorm and a thunder near my home destroyed 90% of all the electrical machines in my house and my PC and had as a result, a really bad situation at the electrical network in my area. For 2 days we didn't have any electrical power and until i replace my PC i can't play of cource, since i have to go at town to find any workable PC.......
I have lost around 400 games from time-out and this is a huge dissapointment. I will continue playing just 2 Gothic Chess games(the one with the prize) and lose the remaining ones. SORRY, but it was not up to me to do something........
Fencer: I was in about 90% of the tranlation and only countries' names remained along with some minor things. And bang! All were lost..........Nothing more to say except that i wil try to re-translate........
I have lost along with the Greek translation of Brainking, 8.000 PDF + 12.000 PS, with mathematic, programming and scientific related files, around 880 Chess engines (i had every Chess engine ever existed that was available), 19.000 PGN files (with around 47.000.000 Chess games!!!!!), 8.000 pictures, 20.000 music files, a huge Atomic Chess opening theory i was preparing with around !!!!70 times!!!! more variations than all known Atomic sites offer (for example: Vlasov's site) and with a line that is probably proves a forced win for white and much, much more......... It is dramatical................!
Fencer: I would like to create a _new_ Rook-account called "Chessmaster5000", while at the same time, to be able to play these 2 aforementioned games of Gothic Chess and after i finish them, Chessmaster1000 will be history. I know this is double ID but it is a double-paid double ID. What do you think........? Am i allowed to do this.........?
some people like it...but its not a game I dont like..it takes sooooooo looooong to play a game..I like stategy games that get to the point within the same decade.
Anna Lyzethis: Basically, it's a game played on a 19x19 board, where players try to occupy territory for victory. Pieces are placed on the points rather than in the squares. The board starts off empty, and pieces don't move (except to be removed when captured) once they're placed. Pieces can be captured, and territory gained, if they are surrounded.
i'm finding that when the big boss of a fellowship has made a board in some language other than English the primary board for that fellowship, i no longer get red numbers next to the name of the fellowship to indicate new messages on the English board. is there a way to fix this? thanks!
