Emne: Re: Question.. Anniversay and Birthday Post.
Pbarb2: Barb, anybody can go and post on the birthday board. Its not just for birthdays, its for any special occasion, if you want to say happy anniversary or happy birthday to someone.
If you have a special date in mind, Volant posts a list at the beginning of the month with birthdays/occasions for that month. If you give her a date she'll add it to the list. But feel free to go and post at any time!
Ask her anything! How does she know about the effects of heat on clothes? What does she have for breakfast? You want to know? Just send me a message with your question and I'll put it together for her interview. (Which will be found at the 'interviews' link above)
And in case you're wondering, Eriisa's interview will be posted in the next couple of days!
Czuch Chuckers, nothing can be resolved when there is one incident and a hundred or so opinions about it. This is not a debate board.
If this was discussed privately, Walter Montego could receive the answers he seems to be seeking, and be offered a sympathetic ear on a one-to-one basis, without the interruptions of any other posts & opinions.
That is not blue shield, just common sense.
Could we move on from this subject please? The people with grievances have had their say and I think it should end here before it evolves into an argument. There are clearly lots of different views about the events of the gothic chess baord, and if everyone posted theirs it would lead to a lot of disagreement, and a sore finger for me and floosie having to delete it all!
There are other venues it can be discussed. If you want to vent, there are suitable fellowships. If you want serious discussion, contact a moderator via PM. Thanks
I think this subject has been about talked to death by now eh? If anybody created a tourney with a maharajah prize (no matter what the details were) they'd be mentioned at server news. Hey, why not give it a try?
Aragon, do you know about auto-vacation?
Also, the system updates every hour (or so) so if that game will time out, it will happen in the next hour.
Unless they have auto vacation on.
Bernice, you are fully aware of why I had to put you on enemies. I'll remove you now, to receive questions only. For the record, you're the only person on my enemies list.
You should know how it works by now!
Send me any question you'd like to have included in Eriisa's interview. State if its ok to put your name with your question. Send as many or as few as you like, and any question you like! Easy as that!
Ah, ok, I didn't realise that. I thought it logical that a programme is only as good as the person who makes it. Obviously not! But I'd still like to steer away from getting personal about Sumerian. He hasn't deliberately cheated, but he has brought a new situation to light which needs resolving. It could do more for the site if peoples suggestions/ideas can be discussed without accusations.
If it was added to the rules that a programme may be used only in certain tournaments - or if previously agreed upon with an opponent - would that do any good? I know I wouldn't know if I was playing a person or a programme in most games.
Sumerian: I don't know much about chess and programmes, but I don't think you need to back out of the tournament.
The tournament creator knew you were using the programme, and Fencer hasn't ruled it illegal so I would carry on as you are unless either person states otherwise.
I think this discussion should stay with the problem of how to handle the use of programmes (of all games, not just chess) in the rules. Are some programmes worse than others? Sumerian is using one he has wrote himself, therefore can only be as good as his own play. (I guess!)
Would it be ok for people to use their own programmes, but not shop bought, professional ones that have been created by masters? Or should it be absolutely none at all, under any circumstances?
Ed, it wasn't because you posted, it was just that your post was more chess orientated, talking about specific chess moves, rather than just programmes and cheating in general that was being discussed before.
Stevie, there are 7 global mods, choose a different one to complain to.
Czuch Chuckers: You may have a point there, Czuch. Would it solve any problems if programmes are allowed, but only when stated before a game (or tourney) starts that they are being used? Or would it be better to have a flat, no programmes allowed?
Fencer & Liquid would know if someone had hacked into the site. Besides, I think everyone gets dice like those described, three double sixes in a row etc..
Woah, thats a bit heavy handed, Czuch! You can't end a membership for a man being honest, even if its a bit controversial what he's doing.
Personally, I wouldn't like to play someone who was using a programme, but I'm sure it happens much more than I'm aware of. I think its good that Sumerian tells me beforehand so I have the choice to say I'd rather not play him.
But I do also think that if he's in a tournament then all players should be aware before-hand that someone is using a programme. (Thats the tournament creators responsibility, in my opinion)
Sorry reza, just a minor disagreement here! Stevie sees that you're discussing chess programmes, where I see it as a general discussion about the use of programmes and cheating. I guess it can be seen either way. But I'm happy for it to continue within reason. If it moves to discussion about specific chess programmes, that would be the time to move it.
Sorry to interrupt the discussion.
No, don't worry reza. I think the use of programmes is very much a BrainKing issue, and this isn't a discussion I imagine will carry on for much longer! You all seem to be coming to an agreement. Its good for people to see all sides of this discussion. Fencer seemed interested earlier, thats good enough for me.
