Board for everybody who is interested in BrainKing itself, its structure, features and future.
If you experience connection or speed problems with BrainKing, please visit Host Tracker and check "BrainKing.com" accessibility from various sites around the world. It may answer whether an issue is caused by BrainKing itself or your local network (or ISP provider).
Emne: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
MadMonkey: Your post is meaningful and you will get the answer (hint, hint!). And, actually, you have answered yourself because you say that the delay happens at the "transferring data from brainking.com" status. Yes, transferring! Not a page generating, no waiting for a response, just transferring of the data containing the web page source. You describe the situation AFTER the page is sent from BrainKing to your browser, not BEFORE. Once again, that's what we cannot resolve because it's not technically possible. There are always many different possibilities of network related problems which can cause this kind of a slowdown, including DNS lookup errors, browser memory leaks, international line overload, a glitch in ISP network switches, wrongly updated caches of proxy servers etc. I don't think it would make sense to list all of them. As I have said, I want to post a detailed article to the blog soon. Be patient.
Fencer: Im sorry....I didnt realize that you can see what I am connected to ....I HAVE THE FASTEST CONNECTION...that is available to me (ADSL).....and other sites ARE fine....you arent sitting where I am sitting and TIME HAS COME TO ACCEPT IT....yes you are right....ACCEPT that your site isnt the best there is, and other sites are faster....... Jim Dandy:looks like it :)
MadMonkey:you are wrong of course LOL...he wont admit to failings..........
Emne: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
Fencer: ok, as i said i am trying to be helpful
I sit here and watch all these messages (and more) appear lots of times in rapid succession while a page is loading: waiting for brainking.com reading data from brainking.com waiting for i.brainking.com connecting to i.brainking.com connected to i.brainking.com read brainking.com transferring data from brainking.com (this stays and waits the longest)
and all this time the page is still loading, and Fasterfox counter is timing it.
How come with NO other site i have this problem, i never get to read those messages anywhere else as it happens so fast and the page, HOWEVER big it is loaded.
Again, i am trying to be helpful and giving you any information i think may help track the answer as i know i am not the only one, and like i said the site has been amazingly fast up until a few days ago
Emne: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
Bernice: You are wrong in both parts of your statement because 1) you don't have the fastest connection speed (it is obvious), 2) other sites are not fine. Time has come to accept it.
Emne: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
MadMonkey: My continuous and thorough tests say the average page generation time is about 0.1 - 0.3 seconds, and this is the result based on measurements from the last 6 months. Whatever happens OUTSIDE BrainKing, i.e. on the way to the user's web browser, is not (and cannot be) our problem. Our power ends at the outgoing port of our firewall.
Emne: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
Fencer: Without getting into an old conversation, we are trying to be positive (well i am lol)
The site has been great for ages now, BUT since about the time of the Archive, i have a dramatic slowdown in brainking response time. All other sites, well, the other 7 open in Tabs at present load pages between 1.07 and 3.61 seconds. Brainking varies wildly though, i can get a games page load in from 1.7 secs which is great, however, any other pages seem to take anywhere from 4 to 20 secs
Just an annoying observation, what has started this again
Nirvana: Yes you can hide someone in a fellowship from others , BB and moderators will still see them though .........but woulsnt it be easier to remove them from the fellowship
Nirvana: This was discussed a while ago and i think Fencers answer was something along these lines. If you are the Big Boss of a Fellowship, you only have people in there that you choose, and hopefully get on with, and that follow the rules you set down. You have the power to remove anyone, who does not abide by your rules.
This i would normally agree with, but with one exception, when you have been left in charge of someones Fellowship for a reason of absence. Here it might be nice to have 'suspend a person' option where all there Fellowship privileges are halted (no read/write boards, joining Tournaments & Teams etc....).
Nirvana: As far as I know there is no way to hide someone for everyone exept for the crew I guess. On the other hand side you can get mod there to see hiden posts. Confusing that all
Andersp: Blocking someone stops them from sending you private messages, from being able to invite you to a game or fellowship, stops you from being able to see their game messages.
Hiding them on a discussion board keeps you from seeing their posts on that board. The red numbers still show up.
Bernice: My take on the mod thing (global or the presumed sub human level that I occupied for a brief time) is that it requires unquestioned devotion to the fearless leader,if not,it falls apart like dominos
I put up with it for awhile just to humor whatever deal it was you thought was great.. but, now it is getting very annoying.. I am a paid member.. I buy memberships so I don't have to be forced to visit offbrand sites.. I don't care to have a cookie from these sites sitting on my puter because I got used to my Main Page link at the top of the list.. Please either offer a check box to those of us who are not interested in other sites.. or take the link off your site all together..
