spirit_66: Somehow yes. But I personaly don't fight back the cheaters with their own weapons. I rather listen to the writing. Subtile though, even meaningless for the subject as it belongs to the social component. I leave the game checking to those who understand something about ;)
spirit_66: Its allright. The word you thrown at me made me laugh anyway, I think the laugh was on both sides. And about the cheats going on, I don't have the time for it. But what you observe might reinforce your oppinion on a suspected cheater but isn't enough for a proof IMO. In fact, players who like to concentrate on a move ge often run off in reallife playing, make forward boy backgammon is a fast game. Online playing allowes such a player to take his time, of course GNU comes after the game is finished. It happens that grandmasters exploit the idea to play with Gnu or fritz, it doesn't belong to bk IMO.
playBunny: I have to let that fall. If I'd ever been high this could tell me that pterasaurs 'peut-être' droped petas (stones if Internet was correct)!
Nice infos about power and outcome. As the keyword Tetrahertz gives less than 100 results with google (german), I'm guessing that you'll muddle on for a while like it is now.
I have two games in the waiting games for backgammon (+2200) to test the new autopass. So if my opponent doesn´t choose this feature the games would be without it and I´d delete these games. Please, I have those games to test the autopass.
nabla: I've played a game and used the checkers from an other board so we've had different colour for the 'racers'. I definately would suggest that well.
nabla: I'm also waiting for this feature of gamefiles in backgammon. I'm not sure if its not already on the to do list, I think so and would like to have this opportunity.
Hrqls: gnubg always doubles immediatly past crawford, I think I´ve never seen it doing different. In the expert modus gnubg took the cube after the dices 3-1, 2-1 with a score at 6-5 to 7. But not after 3-1, 2-1, 3-3, 1-2.
Someone told me about a tournament-final up to nine, a man vs. a woman. She was a strong player but never learned how to use the cube. He was leading 8 - 1 but she won, without ever doubling and he stopped playing backgammon for a year or so.
Pason69: You´ll find more familiary games to play here (which does not mean you´ll find weak players), since it´s difficult as a rook to choose your opponents upon their rating if you play a lot of tournaments like you and most do. Allmost 1000 players is not a enourmous community, so you´ll find less top-players. But compaired to life you´ll find more players at your level on net and here also. It´s difficult to compare the sites, the rating system are different. If you surch to play against experienced players probably FIBS is a good adress. I like the Galore sites for further questions about the game, it would not make sence to reinvent the wheel on every backgammon-site :)
Every turn is a new cube decision. Always. Never forget. The biggest error you can make is to fail to double at the appropriate time.
Kent Goulding, 1991
A player who is savy with the cube will have an advantage over an opponent who moves the checkers slightly better but makes inferior cube decisions. Thus, it is vital to understand cube decisions in order to be a winning backgammon player.
Kit Woolsey, 2002
The doubling cube holds the key to being a winner or a loser. Good checker play will never compensate for serious errors of judgement on doubling. A good part of the skill is accepting or refusing doubles lies in being able to recognize which positions are gammon prone and which are not. In any position where you are under attack and have no anchor in your opponents board, you risk being closed out and gammoned. Many seeminly inferior positions can be taken when you have an anchor.
Paul Magriel,
And someone said I dont know who: you win games with checkers, you win matches with the cube.
Czuch Chuckers: The doubling cube takes away much luck of the game and usualy finals are played to 21. A Backgammonmaster introduced it once if I´m right. I think that the realy better player can be determined in a 11 point match up. Indeed there is much decided by luck in backgammon, that makes this game so pleasant to me :). Actually I think that luck and scill is balanced to 50/50 but it depends on the scill finaly, the more you have, the more you can risk a beeing lucky.
