Do you miss something on BrainKing.com and would you like to see it here? Post your request into this board! If there is a more specific board for the request, (i.e. game rule changes etc) then it should be posted and discussed on that specific board.
Could there be a button "Delete after Reply" or something like that? When you hit that button you'd go to the normal Reply form. After sending the reply the original message would automatically be deleted...
Something like the option "Delete After Sending Invitation" that now exists for game over notifications.
tonyh:
a) even if it is invitation only I like to know they exist. I can allways try to ask the owner to invite me.
b) I usually use this page instead of my profile page to check up on the tournment list before it starts. But then again, being a pawn, I can only enter one tournament at a time :). Besides, when should it disappear from the list? When you sign up for all game types in the tournment? Right after you sign up for at least one game in the tournment?
Not all other games have it: Line4, for instance doesn't have a captured pieces section
I disagree with 1 and think the answer is NO for 3. If you really want to know why, try posting this in the Espionage DB and lots of players will explain you why ;)
well, actually it has both. If you ever played BG with him it shows tables just for that type of game and under those indeed come tables with all of your games against that player...
I personally think that profile page is a bit messy. I ask one information and it still shows me everything else... (it took me a while before I realized the "show games against me only" link was working, because whenever I clicked it I just saw the fellowships (only the next day I bothered to scroll the page down! )
And now here comes a feature request:
--8--8--8--8--
Can the profile page be sorted into tabs (like the Settings page, for instace)?
(Personal Info, Fellowships, All Finished Games, Games against Me, Torunaments, Unfinished Games, etc, etc, etc)
I think it would even take some load of the server because it wouldn't have to sed me all that info at once when all I want to know is that person's name or gender as often happens...
grenv: When I posted the link I copied it from the page where it showed "all backgammon games between me and ughaibu". Looks like that page is the page where it shows "all backgammon games between the current logged in played and ughaibu"
No wonder ughaibu gave me that reply
To the games themselves may be hard... but maybe a link the page that shows the games of that type between the two players (like this one - look at the bottom of the page, under all of ughaibu's fellowships )?
though I also think it was somewhat harsh, I also do agree with grenv's statement: many websites out there are poorly constructed because their webmasters try their best to remove control from the user (leaving visually impaired people stuck with tiny fonts, for instance)
But this belongs in another DB and I'll stop my remarks right here...
Czuch: there are... I know I can see a board in every game and I'm just a pawn :)
It's just that some games are so similar that the same board is shared by them all...
I'd like to request that a proper discussion board be created for the pond game. What exists now is a replica of the system of messages-in-game for all the other games and where each player posts one message per turn. I'd hardly call it a discussion. What kind of a discussion is it if you must wait 2 days for the opportunity to reply? :)
Anyway, a real discussion board like those for the other games would concentrate all the comments about how to improve the game in one place, easier to browse and leave the rest of the boards clear for other important things (like real feature requests) and especially not bother the pawns with suggestions for a game they can't play and... oh... wait... I see why there is no such DB now... hmm... right... you sure plan things the right way Fencer ;)
Now seriously, sooner or later things will go off topic (if not already with aligators swimming around), and then there will be a mod throwing everyone to the pond :)
[NOTE: I'm a pawn by my own will, and am playing on becoming a paying member someday... just not right now. So I'm not complaining against the game or anything like that, on the contrary. I think this is a legitimate feature request, that's all]
If the only justification is not to reveal the setup board then why is it that at Dark Chess the game is revealed in the end? Some players may also like to use the same oppening more than once if it has proven to be a winning one...
Not to mention Espionage type games...
Most players just won't bother to go through their opponent's old games to check for board setups anyway...
Emne: Re:What's the point of displaying 12,000+ lines on one screen?
<1. let you see all the "New" messages at once before the "New" disappears when you click the '>' link
2. let you read the whole board and let your mouse rest at the same time
3. test the browser's hability to handle such a big page
4. test how fast the server can serve pages and how fast you can receive them
5. being online, while seeming offline to everyone else if you plan on reading the whole 12000 lines
What if, instead of each member of a team play against each member of the other, the teams could play one game (or match of games), where the members of a team decide on what the next move would be? Working together like a team and not just a group of individuals working for each other the whole time.
When it was the turn of one of the teams, each team member would vote on the next move and the move with most votes would be the move for the team. Or the team members discuss the move between them and the team captain makes the move.
Another option could be for a particular player to play against a whole team for a bigger challenge. Just to see how good he/she really is.
I got the idea from www.letsplaychess.com from their "somebody vs rest of the world" matches and think could be something nice to implement here at BK.
yeah, but people don't remember numbers (not to mention they're not easy to see on your every day moves around the site).
A simpler option could be to stick somebody to a username and allow for a changeable nickname. So one day I could be "Coelho (pauloaguia)" and on another "CometSeeker (pauloaguia)".
This way everyone would be happy...
Most ISP's share IP's amongst their clients... not only you won't get the same IP each time you connect but the IP you have one day can become the IP of another client the other day.
Not to mention the fact that there are some people who share the same IP (work at the same company and connect from there or stuff like that).
well, right now, whenever that happens to me, instead of clicking the board link I copy it to the address bar and add, at the end, something like &bms=50 (or whatever number I want it to start at).
Interestingly enough, when I later click the link to go to the first page of the board, the messages still appear marked as unread :)
But I'd like to be able to click the red number ando go to the last message automatically just like you...
you could always show the captured piece as a ? I guess...
But I would prefer to see the pieces that were already taken from me. At least in these first times when I never know exactly how many pieces I have of each kind...
Can there be some way of jumping to the last message read (or the first unread) on a DB?
Brainking.com DB is getting 50-100 (or more) messages everyday and when I go check them out, after I click the link on the second page, all the "New!" pointers are gone. And not just that one. Even a not so busy DB will have loads of messages after a long period without checking them out (after an couple of weeks on hollidays, for instance).
If there was a way to jump directly to the page of the first unread message then this problem wouldn't exist...
Of course I'd like to be able to go and just check the most recent messages on some boards (the way it's now). I'd just like to have a choice.
