KotDB: I'd like Chu Shogi on BrainKing too. I play it now on a play by mail server and it's just not as good as playing a game on Brain King. At least I can play it there. Crazy game. Takes a few moves to get going and then all sorts of things happen. I play with the regular rules, but the site has drop and Lion handicap options too. If you'd like to play a game or two KotDB, we could play there until Fencer adds it here.

Isn't Ludo luck-based enough? Do we really need a game in which neither player can ever have a choice of moves? Wouldn't it be more efficient to sit at home tossing coins all day?

Fencer: that is not enirely true. If you use java to refresh with a counter variable you can stop the count down. I am not sure of the exact code but I have seen it done.

Emne: Re: Main page invitations
grenv: That'll work too. The thing is I normally accept invitations and do not enter a message as it won't appear until Fencer fixes the first message of a new game. I declined these invitations and found the need to write something.

Emne: Main page invitations
I recently was sent a game invitation which appeared on my Main page as usual, but with a dialog box for accepting or declining the invitation with it. That makes it easy to take care of, but there's a problem. How do you type a message into the box when your page continues to refresh? Could it be made to stop refreshing while you're typing into the box, but continue to refresh when you haven't typed anything into it?
Just imagine how hard it'd be to type in a discussion board if the pages refreshed.

I'd also like to see a swiss tournament type, especially for chess variants.

Emne: Re: elimination-tourneys seedings...
grenv: All four are reasonable and good suggestions. I personally am happy with any system as long as their is a chance for 1 to meet 2 in the final round. In many games and sports, there is the 1-64, 2-63 and so on. In chess there is the 1-33, 2-34 and so on. And in a game like tennis, there is no set pairing except that the top two can't meet until the final, the top four can't meet until the semis and so on.

Emne: Re: elimination-tourneys seedings...
All:

I vote for 4 systems (chosen by organizer)

1.Random each round
2.Random, but brackets known at the start
3.Seeded (1 vs 64, 2 vs 63 etc) Reseed each round based on current rating
4.Seeded, bracket known at start.

:)

How about if there was a new "re-seeding" in every round, using the same system that in first round

... but yes: here is the special september-action: everyone who buys a black rook receives 10 "free-rolls" every year: the member will have 10 opportunities to decide himself how the dice are rolling. as an equivalent in chess and other games which do not depend on luck, this member will have the chance to make 10 illegal moves...

btw.: after a real desastrous finish in my last 2 backgammon-games this morning i was wondering whether it could be implemented something like a bonus for the experienced BK-players which helps to throw more doubles and better rolls at the end of games. according to the number of playes games, number of action-points, years on BK.........

Emne: Re: elimination-tourneys seedings...
diogenes: actually... it is [or should be], very similar to the way "Super Size HYPER Elimination---volume 1 (Hyper Backgammon)" was set up in the first round...
players are seeded as ranked... highest bkr to lowest- unrated [with unrated playing each other]
split the field in half with number one playing the best of the worst...
in the second round winners [unrated players are given provisional] are ranked above draws- split the field... etcetera... 'random' invites criticism... order begats order;]

Emne: Re: elimination-tourneys seedings...
grenv: as far as i know its always the same system that defines who is playing against who, so always 1 vs 2 in the 2nd round.

anyway, your suggestion behind that question is right: it should be at least randomly seeded and not necessarily like i mentioned it before!

diogenes: Do the seeded players always meet early here, or is it at least random?

Emne: elimination-tourneys seedings...
well, the best-rated players meet very soon in the elimination-tourneys. e.g. the best rated will meet the second best rated in the second round (if they both win their first match). as we all know from tennis and other sports, normally the first seeded is placed on the top, the second seeded at the bottom, third seeded at the top of the bottom half, fourth seeded at the bottom of the top half and so on...

could this be possible in order to "honour" the best seeded ones and to make a big final between them a little more possible??

Emne: Re: is it possible
King Reza: it would be perfect if you could do it per game type, and add a allowed bkr for it

i dont need to allow it for specific players as i can put playes on my list of blocked users if i dont want to be invited

so per game a checkbox wether you allow invitations or not, in which bkr range
