THere is no way to set a vacation for ponds. Am I right? In other words I lose over 20 ponds. Well I guess thats better than 90 I once had. LOL I am going down in them anyway for some reason.
Maxxina: Thanks.. I thought hrqis said he set something and his ponds were still going. A bid thing I thought it was. I know that is not a vacation thing. Do you know anything about that?

Pbarb2: I think some people make extra high bids, then lett it auto-play before they are away..... sometimes you can stay in the game a bit longer than just not playing any moves for awhile.
Pbarb2: Yea, like Czuch said - if you know you are going to be gone for a few turns in a pond, you can bid a higher amount of points (which will be auto-bid for you any rounds that you don't enter anything for) - which may keep you in the ponds until you get back - but the down side is you lose a lot of points so. (So if you think a good bid for the current round will be 100, but the next round after that may be 200 but you will not be around - you can bid 250-300 that way you hope your auto-bids will keep you in the game for a little bit.)
BIG BAD WOLF: You know, it'd be nice if one could bid more than one round in advance. This would certainly give you a sporting chance when you have to be on vacation or when an emergency happens. Say eight days or four rounds which ever takes the most days on the calendar?
grenv: Works for me. It'd be a nice easy set up on one's game page too. It should certainly make things fair for everyone and lessen the burden on the person that has a true emergency or unexpected absense come up. Though I doubt if it help someone to play 10 moves in advance, it could at least save them a few points in a game and they could still have a chance after missing a move or two for some unforeseen reason.
Vikings: OK, I posted it on the Feature Request board and directed Fencer here for any additional imput. The more I think about it, the better I like the idea.
I see what you are saying now. I think it could save a couple of mine anyway. My hubby didn't tell me we were going to go anywhere when I signed up for them. With my arm problem we were kind of living day to day for awhile. I only have two more moves on the one I am winning so will be here yet. :)
OK, will go look for the auto thing. Thank you all very much for your help.

Pbarb2: there's nothing to look for, it will automatically use your last bid over and over until you fall in, just make your last bid before you go higher and your set.
Vikings: LOL I found that out. So if I bid way over it will use that bid until I run out of points or fall in the pond. I think, I have it. Right now I seem to be falling in on my own. I may not have many to worry about when I leave the last week of Aug. LOL Thanks Vikings.

PEDRO.....I will save this for about a fortnight- 3 weeks as I want you to be home when it arrives :)
i still have no idea what a pond is, nor how it works, even after reading the rules..what is bid on, and i am confused...but, then, i'm getting to that age where that happens alot...can someone please tell me where to find a spoon, so that i can be spoon fed???
ginifish: while Clays suggetions is a valid one, I would suggest clicking on the winners link at the top of the page, and choosing any of the top 10 winners, then look at a few recent games that they have won, you can go through them round by round and get an idea on how to bid, then play a few ponds (it takes a few to get the handg of it)_good luck.
Not sure how the BK rating works on ponds, do you get points if you don't win and does it pay to have as many points as possible at the end if you win?
wellywales: first of all, left over points means nothing, so don't be afraid to use them. 2nd the ratings works simmilar to other games with the exception that an average is taken from all the people you beat vs. all the people that beat you. so you do not have to win to gain bkr. It all depends on the BKR of your opponents and their finish vs. your bkr. I know that is a simplistic answer but it really hasn't ever been explained much better.
Bottom line-WIN, and if you can't win, finish in the top 5
Vikings: Thanks, I have never played before and there only 2 of us left, I have 1001 points the other person nil, so! I can put 1 or 1001 points on Yes? (first time lucky I think)
wellywales: You don't get 500 points for winning, you get 500 points for having the highest bid. (Which of course does no good on the last round - but the system still gives you that reward!)
BIG BAD WOLF: Actually the system really should end the game with 2 players left. Highest score wins. Forcing another round is a little like forcing a king capture in chess instead of stopping at checkmate.

grenv: Although that might be the case there are times when the lower player might win ... carrying over a low and now losing bid from the previous round by not entering a new bid for example.
grenv: Ah, but you did not specify that it needed to be an honourable win :) ... as you might hav guessed, all I was trying to do was test the extent of the envelope
BBW, I am very disappointed that in order to maintain you ranking you did not even play in the 10 wins pond!!!! What a copout that you use the excuse that you are trying to get your gamecount down to avoid playing ponds! I can probably find a post from 3 years ago where you used the same excuse for playing you games too slowly, that you had to many games goind and needed to get the count down. You have had too many games for many years now, and the excuse is lame, IMO.
Now it is really none of my business what you do or why.... the point is that I am disappointed thet the best pond player on this site will not even play in one of the most prestegious pond games ever played on this site, no matter what you lame excuse. Shame on you! ;)~
Czuch Chuckers: Actually I did not play since I was (and still will) be taking some real vacations, and ponds don't have vacations - so I stoped signing up for new ponds. (I'm still playing 3 with longer time limits - and I will probable sign up for a couple more once those are over so I will never be without ponds - but I'm going to try hard to not have 50+ ponds going at the same time like I have in the past.... plus with ponds that probable have at least 3-4 days per turn.) I don't mind losing, but I hate to lose on a time-out.
Just to let you know I am back from our 2nd vacation. Those of you that won the ponds that I was close to winning. Congrats! Now I am back no more vacations and look out..No more giving them away.. LOL
My hubby didn't let me know we were going away again when I signed up ..
Sorry about that.

Vikings: I've seen others do it. It has to be considered cheating. I don't care too much since I'm playing my last 2 ponds now (lost it's interest) but on principal it is wrong.
