Board for everybody who is interested in BrainKing itself, its structure, features and future.
If you experience connection or speed problems with BrainKing, please visit Host Tracker and check "BrainKing.com" accessibility from various sites around the world. It may answer whether an issue is caused by BrainKing itself or your local network (or ISP provider).
Jim Dandy: The problem is - you can't tell that unless you actually are in that area. And it isn't usually area specific. I am on ADSL 3000, but I could easily have the idea to switch to Modem or ISDN or whatever slow connection. Or I could have the same basic connection speed, but maybe my ISP has speed problems in my area from time to time, or let's too many people share bandwidth, or whatever... There are quite a couple of possible reasons for a slow connection to a specific site, and you can't tell unless you try.
Jim Dandy: Maybe if we level off some mountain ranges, knock down (or build up?) some cellphone towers, get rid of those annoying wind-turbine thingees, and somehow calm the Atlantic Ocean just a tad.....
Assunto: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
MadMonkey: I noticed something similar with Alquerque and Jarmo boards as well. Every so often the site has been a bit slower, but not very much.
I wish someone knew the answer why it is only a problem for some people. I think knowing that answer would help a lot of people.
It makes sense that it isn't specifically a brainking problem, since not everyone is experiencing the same thing. To me, if it were, everyone would be having the exact same problems. (Or it makes sense to ME anyways.. lol)
I WOULD say that over the last couple of days, it is probably the more graphic intensive pages that have been a bit slower.
Gordon Shumway: Maybe the solution would be to post a disclaimer to those in areas that are most likely to have sub par performance on the site. The lesser quality might be logical, but it should be sold at a discount.
TarantinoFan: I'd like to point out again, that not everybody is having the problems you are talking about. I don't have them, and there are others who don't, and who stated it here right on this board. That doesn't mean no problems exist, but it makes it kind of unlikely, that those problems are on BrainKing's side (since we don't believe in a white list theory, right?). There are many routers and networks involved when the page data is transferred around the world. I just traced it, and my route passes 13 hops, but they are located in just two networks. So my ISP has a pretty decent connection to the ISP of BrainKing, I guess. And maybe yours doesn't. And for you and all the others a striped down version of BrainKing game pages and main page (like suggested by coan.net) might really be a great idea, to cut down the transfer time. I just don't know if cheeky posts are the fastest way to get it
BTW: If there are too many images for you to load - maybe you could turn smileys off to have fewer? Have you checked your browser settings? Does it have enough memory to cache all images so you don't have to load them again with each request? Because usually an image is only loaded once and then read from the cache instead of over the internet from i.brainking.com, and thus shouldn't slow your page loading time down at all.
Filip doesn't "Feed the Trolls" he is a troll himself. He never fails to troll through this site for "certain user" posts to respond to.
If the i brainking is taking so long to load doesn't that suggest that maybe there are too many images?
When people from both groups ie: "certain users" and "not you " are saying the same thing then it would suggest that something needs to be checked somewhere and abuse of the "certain users" groups does not negate the fact that the "not you " group is having the same problems with this site.
Assunto: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
Fencer: ahhh thanks
No not really, i have the odd smiley that does not show itself, but shows as a group of a few pixels in a block, but apart from that all BK images are fine
Only problem i had yesterday was with the Alquerque board. I know it is large anyway, but for some reason the board once loaded, parts of it looked as if they were not loaded, if that makes sense. Like not completely there. Is there no way to make smaller Alquerque, Jarmo and Ludo boards ? (yes i know, time lol)
Assunto: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
MadMonkey: Sorry. The i.brainking.com server provides all images and the brainking.com is still the BrainKing as we know it - the HTML code and similar things. Are there any particular images you have a problem with?
Assunto: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
Jim Dandy: Every respectable person deserves a respect. Unfortunately it does not apply to Bernice. Hell, I have made this mistake again but sometimes I cannot resist.
Assunto: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
Bernice: Obviously you are not smart enough to understand the simplest arguments. Which is, to my amusement, confirmed by your every post. Keep doing that.
i could neveerrrr really find many of da chess variants dat i have found here on other sites (i guess i didnt really loook tho cuz of IYT and stuff like that) lol
anyways thanks 2 u and da other important ppl dat have 2 do something w/da site :DD
Assunto: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
Andersp: Yeah... And this slowness is applied to the page transfer from BrainKing only to a certain group of users? What do you think why I don't have those issues? Because I am living relatively "close" to Prague and my ISP obviously has a good connection to CZ, or because I am on a mysterious BrainKing white list of people being serverd promplty?
Assunto: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
Bernice: There is one thing which I absolutely don't understand (and I am definitely not the only one) - what are you still doing on BrainKing? Isn't is a good time to leave the site at last and find another one where they don't know you yet?
Assunto: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
MadMonkey: Your post is meaningful and you will get the answer (hint, hint!). And, actually, you have answered yourself because you say that the delay happens at the "transferring data from brainking.com" status. Yes, transferring! Not a page generating, no waiting for a response, just transferring of the data containing the web page source. You describe the situation AFTER the page is sent from BrainKing to your browser, not BEFORE. Once again, that's what we cannot resolve because it's not technically possible. There are always many different possibilities of network related problems which can cause this kind of a slowdown, including DNS lookup errors, browser memory leaks, international line overload, a glitch in ISP network switches, wrongly updated caches of proxy servers etc. I don't think it would make sense to list all of them. As I have said, I want to post a detailed article to the blog soon. Be patient.

Fencer: Im sorry....I didnt realize that you can see what I am connected to ....I HAVE THE FASTEST CONNECTION...that is available to me (ADSL).....and other sites ARE fine....you arent sitting where I am sitting and TIME HAS COME TO ACCEPT IT....yes you are right....ACCEPT that your site isnt the best there is, and other sites are faster....... Jim Dandy:looks like it :)
MadMonkey:you are wrong of course LOL...he wont admit to failings..........
Assunto: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
Fencer: ok, as i said i am trying to be helpful
I sit here and watch all these messages (and more) appear lots of times in rapid succession while a page is loading: waiting for brainking.com reading data from brainking.com waiting for i.brainking.com connecting to i.brainking.com connected to i.brainking.com read brainking.com transferring data from brainking.com (this stays and waits the longest)
and all this time the page is still loading, and Fasterfox counter is timing it.
How come with NO other site i have this problem, i never get to read those messages anywhere else as it happens so fast and the page, HOWEVER big it is loaded.
Again, i am trying to be helpful and giving you any information i think may help track the answer as i know i am not the only one, and like i said the site has been amazingly fast up until a few days ago
Assunto: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
Bernice: You are wrong in both parts of your statement because 1) you don't have the fastest connection speed (it is obvious), 2) other sites are not fine. Time has come to accept it.
Assunto: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
MadMonkey: My continuous and thorough tests say the average page generation time is about 0.1 - 0.3 seconds, and this is the result based on measurements from the last 6 months. Whatever happens OUTSIDE BrainKing, i.e. on the way to the user's web browser, is not (and cannot be) our problem. Our power ends at the outgoing port of our firewall.
