I'm a member in 85 forums NOT including these at Brainking. I'm a daily-active-posting member in around 30, a daily-active-reader-only in about 30 and i just look from time to time the other....
So adding a new one would not be a big problem, but it is already difficult to handle.....

Assunto: Great matches.........
Ed Trice in another forum wrote:
I was wondering what some of our chess enthusiasts would consider the best "Dream Match" of all time? Who would you like to see play chess across the decades, or centuries?

My own favorites (not in any order)

1. Morphy vs. Fischer
2. Tal vs. Capablanca
3. Steintz vs. Morphy
4. Lasker vs. Kasparov
5. Karpov vs. Alekhine

Any predictions on how your matches would turn out?

1. Morphy vs. Fischer = 0-1
2. Tal vs. Capablanca = 0-1
3. Steintz vs. Morphy = 0-1
4. Lasker vs. Kasparov = 0-1
5. Karpov vs. Alekhine = 1-0

But the best matches would be the amazing Capablanca versus Kasparov of Fischer. My belief is that Capablanca was the best Chess-brain ever and he could not lose if he wanted.......Kasparov is incredible of cource but this is caused on a big degree due to his amazing preparation......
Fischer is just the top of brilliance but he was not so "normal" to become the best of the best, as he didn't last long enough......

Yep, and i suggest you to see it's game against Junior. A strong game. If you have Chessbase GUI you should see its evaluations. At move 33.Nd5 most top programs show a small or good score for white but not a clear win that Zappa 2.0 shown. It's attack was fantastic........! Of cource the fact that Zappa used a quad computer was a strong help but we should not overestimate this......

And the draw was against a program that finished last and scored only 1.5 points......

Also to correct ChessCarpenter that said "This site is very informative about ZAPPA and included on the site is a FREE download of the program which I think everyone here might be interested in!!",
i have to say that the version of Zappa that is available for free download is 1.1 while the one that played at WCCC-2005 was the 2.0 and it will become commercial.......Acccording to its author Zappa 1.1 is much weaker than top commercials while 2.0 is almost like them.....

Also in such a short tournament the result of Zappa maybe lucky and if instead 110 games were played, it may had much worse results.....We will see sometime at September when it will become available to buy.......

ughaibu: I'm going to post a thematic chess tournament, winners will be those to first double rooks on the 7th, no draws. The tournament'll be entitled "blind pigs" and'll be co-dedicated to the global moderators and the cloak facility.

If there is no checkmate and winners will be only that would have both Rooks at 7th rank, then i think ALL games will be draw! Because it's impossible to prevent an opponent from capturing at least one of our Rook........

The game would become interesting if only 1 Rook would have to reach 7th rank..........

Just kidding as i said................
You don't have to pay anything.....!
Except if at the tournament notes there is a different statement. But that would be ridiculous and i haven't seen anything yet.......

Hey! Just kidding, i'm not a fool that paid these money..........

(I received a mail saying i'm an idiot that paid 30 Euro, because when you win you pay nothing and since free membership cost less than 30 Euro, what's the reason to participate if you are about to pay more than that you win? The person who sent it must not have a sense of humour or must be a complete idiot!----Sorry......)

Pafl: I used 2 engines for helping in my short analysis, for checking my ideas and to find some new ones too......: Ikarus V0.18 and my favourite CM9000-JudgeII.
The JudgeII found a way for winning but Ikarus also had some good ideas..........

So the "party" for black begins with 19...Nxh2! instead of 19...e4?
After it white has to play 20.Ke1 and then 20...Nf3+ 21.Kd1 which is forced.
Then there are 2 moves:

  • 21...Nh4+ 22.Kd2 Qf2+ 23.Kc3 Qxg3 and black has 2 Pawns more and a win is reachable........(The continuation 24.Rg1 Qf3 25.Bxf7?! Qxf7 26.Rxg4 Qf6!? winning a Pawn back is not good, as white has huge problems in the Kingside due to possible advance of black Pawns with h5, but the most important is that black can play Nf3 and then e4 is killing....)

  • 21...0-0-0 and now there are 3 choices for white:

  • ** 22.Nc3 and then 22...Qc6! and white has many problems to solve so he can't survive........
  • ** 22.Na3 and then 22...h5! and black has a very dangerous attack and a very cramped position [edit]for white[/edit].........There are too many threats!
    After 23.c3 (for letting the King escape via c2) there is 23...Ng5+ 24.Kc2 Qf2+ 25.Qd2 Qxg3 26.Rg1 Qf3 -+
  • ** 22.Ne2 and then 22...Qc6! -+ Black is winning clearly!

    Assunto: Re:
EdTrice: white gives up a piece that is never recovered again, something computers usually do not do.

In this case many (the 40% of around 40 programs i tried) engines play your move in a time between 20 seconds to 2 minutes, with a positive score. Especially Deep-Junior 8.ZX and Junior 7 are very happy with the position after the double sacrifice.......

After 17...Kh8 there is still a mate in 51 moves.

I don't know if you are joking here, but no program or human can announce such a thing correctly, from this position.......
My opinion is that it's not only wrong that there is a mate for white, but that white is not even winning. Although i see an advantage for white it is definitely not an easy task to win..........

How will you continue in my 3 lines after Kh8.....? Do you have any refutation?

    Chessmaster1000
    No!
    After 18...Ra5? we have 19.Rxe6! fxe6 20.Ne5!
    and white is winning big..........

I would not say that white has the edge. I would say that white will be slightly better.......(Perhaps i'm wrong of course!)

    Nice game......! Some comments:

13...a5?! What was this move for..........? Perhaps it even deserved a "?".

15...Bxf5 and the attack has to wait. White is better though.....

17...Kg8? Hmmm, i would definitely played 17...Kh8 and i think there is a game after this. White would be better but he would not be winning.
    After 17...Kg8 game is over..............

    After 17...Kh8 if:
  • 18.Rxe6 fxe6 19.Ng5 Qd7 20.Qf3 Bd8 21.Bg6 e5 22.Nf7 Kg8 with a small advantage for white......
  • 18.Qc1 Ng8! and white has to find a way to attack.......(19.Qf4 Nd5 and then Ndf6 and black would have many defenders....(for example 20.Qe4 Ndf6 21.Qh4 Ng4 22.Bg5+ 23.Rxe6 fxe6 24.Qe4 Nf5 25.Qxe6 Rf8! with unclear game))
  • 18.Qd2 Ng8 (or even Nh5) and white is not much better but just has a chance for an attack........
After 19.Qf4 we have the same position with 18.Qc1.

Assunto: ONE YEAR Rook Membership Contest......! Part-II
Well since last time nobody succedded, i will increase the prize..... So here is your chance to win a one year membership here, with a lot of effort of course........

The first one who will post at
Gothic Chess discussion board and only there, the correct answers to the above 4 questions, will win a 1 year Rook membership...........

    The 4 questions are here.

***If there are no answers or any correct one until 10/02/2005, there will be no winner.......
***If someone posts more than 1 answer, then the accepted one, will be ONLY his last one. That means even if someone posts a correct answer before everyone, but posts another one later, not correct this time, he would not win as the accepted answer will be the last one. Even if anyone else hasn't answered correctly.......
***In the extremely rare case when there will be 2 or more correct answers at the exactly same time, the winner will be the one whose post will appear first at the Gothic Chess discussion board.
***I will post if there is a winner or not at 10/02/2005.
