grenv: That is the thing that bothers me - if there is that few people left, that information is sitting right there for me to look at - don't know how I could miss it.
... I can understand if 10+ people are left, since the last person might not be on the same screen as I am and I might miss something.....
Ugh... i just can't believe i did something so stupid - which is why I REALLY want to look at past moves in pond games since I've seen similar in other games - just usually I don't mess up that bad. :-(
UGH! I wonder if we will be able to look at past moves - Game with 7 people left, 5 big about 500 - I bid 2,000 - and I don't know what I missed! I mean I'm sure I missed something, but UGH! I can't wait to be able to look at past moves....
41 finished ponds..
1st place = 2 times
2nd place = 4 times
3rd place = 5 times
4th place = 7 times
5th place = 5 times
top 5 = 23 times out of 41 games
Czuch Chuckers: thank you so much and what a hell of a job to do :( I wouldnt like to do it myself on a PC so really appreciate what you have done ;0)....
150 finished games
1st 28,2nd 17, 3rd 20, 4th 16, 5th 13
total top 5 finishes 94, 63%
special note last 50 games placing 10th or worse 2, first 100 games finishing 10th or worse 38
ClayNashvilleTn: Not likely! I already wasted 2 hours today doing mine and Bernice. Anyone with a fast connection can do on in about a 1/4 of the time, maybe less.
Go to your profile and scroll down to your pond games list.... hit the filter link to change it from "running" games to "finished" games, there you go, all your finished pond games :)
Czuch Chuckers: I agree. The more skillful players are those that have a chance of winning when it comes down to 4 or 5 players - rather than getting to the top 5 but having a third less points than the leader. Everyone plays differently, and the suggested rating system (BKR) for ponds which was mentioned by Fencer some time ago, has changed a few players strategy I believe.
BerniceC: You have 81 finished games. 24 top 5 finishes (29%). 7 4th place, 7 5th place and 10 3rd place. You dont have any 2nd place or wins yet. The good news is that you have gotten better recently... 23 of your 24 top 5 place finishes have come in your last 44 games, 52%. Thats much better :)
I was going to do mine and pedros to give you some perspective, but since I am on slow webtv, it took me over an hour to sort out yours! Maybe someone with a faster modem can help us out?
Some thoughts..... I dont really believe that it is such a big deal to get into the top 5, if winning is not your main goal. For example, i could bet 50 in the first round and then 100 and 200 and 400 and 800 and 1600 and 3200 and 6400 all blind without even looking at the pond results and I gaurantee i would still be in the game and get a minimum of 7th place with still over 7000 points left to bid.... but I would NEVER have any chance to win one of these games!
My opinion, if you want 3rd 4th and 5th place finishes, keep playing the way you do, but if you want 2nd and wins, then you must change your strategy. Good luck!
and Scarlet...I have done it myself occasionally...in the early rounds and then will go back to a middle of the road bet...I wish I had of kept records of my 2nd, 3rd. 4th, and even 5th...there isnt too many when i drop early :(
perhaps someone can tell me how I can find older games????? and see how I have gone;....no wins but lots of them other ones
BerniceC: Yes it is.. that is how bidding should be.. my main gripe is those who on the first several rounds bit 1100 or more.. they only gain 500 if they win the high bid.. but, they drop 600 or more points.. that is NOT smart bidding.. LOL
Vikings: WOW...grand total of 1 game between the 3 of us.....thank god for that....i never seem to finish lower than about 2nd, 3rd.4th. as I have said below...one of these lovely days I will crack that elusive number and then you will really be able to have a giggle Vikings.
Im waiting for the stats...occasional wins are good but overall average is far better:)
you said it yourself, haven't won any, in fact the three people that have been going for the bonus in that game have won a grand total of 1 game between them
Vikings: I very, very rarely bet more that up to 75 by the 3rd round, so do know what you mean:)
But when it gets up to between say 200 - 300 and all are betting that....THEN is the time to be 500....(a) you are in the running for the bonus and (b) if you get it, it has cost you nothing. and (c) if you dont get it there isnt a lot between 300 and 500....but then with all my smart thinking ROFLMBO....I still havent won one:)
but that dont really bother me, I would really love to see the stats for the ponds :)
when someone bids 1000 or more in the first 3 rounds to get the bonus, they don't gain to much, but if it makes anyone feel beter, please, go ahead, I sure won't complain
*****CLAY: Those are the people that are complaining!*****
*****ScarketRosewho cares if they get the bonus.. they will soon dwindle off..******
well Im regularly getting the bonus.....another 12 this morning, and I dont even bother opening them. I seem to be able to stay in MOST ponds until either 3rd, 4th or 5th place very often :)
who cares???? I do and "dwindle off" not at this end .
What Im saying is getting the message is a waste of resources in my mind.
