I don't know what the fuss is.. I have my game page open all day long while I work and I never ever see the dragon anymore.. I never go to the sign in page so no dragon.
Rose: Well what it looks like is it is coded into many pages on the site - but most of the time just set to not show - still runs, just does not show (well I use a theme to always hide it so I never see it except for when I first sign in) - but he is still there in the background causing problem.
Like right now, I'm typing this while watching a movie, and now the movie is freezing stopping (and has been working well for the past 3 hours) - open up the task manager, Firefox is using between 85-99% of the CPU. I will finish this post, close the BrainKing tab - and the CPU will go back down to the normal 5-10%
Again, maybe it's not the dragon - but it is definitely this site.
coan.net: Interesting. It is true that dragon causes some kind of increased load but I have tried it on several computers and none of them was using more than 35% of CPU. Furthermore, it happens only with Firefox and Internet Explorer, Opera works smoothly and shows no strange behavior, most likely because its JavaScript processor is not as buggy as the one of other browsers. Anyway, the code should not be loaded with other styles (except the castle one) and you can even turn off all animations, using a new switch "Enable style animations" at your Settings / General page.
Fencer:One could always add http://noscript.net/ to the FireFox addons but I'm not sure what all that might affect. Frankly, I use the "Simple" layout and the dragon isn't an issue for me.
Artful Dodger: Before, i had it set to the no-font layout, and then used my own external .css (but had tried all 3 with the same resultes.) Problem before, even if you did not see the dragon, it was still loading with many of the pages of BrainKing (you could look at the page source and still see it loading - but just not flying across the screen).
I could open my Wndows Task Manager, and look at all my running processes - sort on CPU, and as soon as I starting doing anything in brainking site, Firefox would peg out between 80-99% of the CPU (slowing everything else down) - and if I let the page just sit there, it would stay that way for about 45 seconds to 90 seconds (which is about the time it takes the dragon to fly across the screen.) - and then brainking would stop using all the CPU. I can have 20 other tabs open with very little issue, but as soon as the BrainKing tab is opened - boom - there goes my CPU.
Fencer: I just tried that setting, and tried out a few pages while watching the CPU - and firefox seems to be staying between 00 - 03% while I have this site open (a quick jump to about 70% for a second while the page loads - but I see that as normal and only lasted for under 1 second) - so looks good so far - Thanks a lot! (I'll give it a good test later today as I have a movie I want to watch on my computer and plenty of games to get through.)
coan.net:It could be a good addition to Brainking if we could have a game where we shoot the dragon and then it can't load on our computer for the day. We get 3 shots and if we miss with 3, or don't kill it but only wound it, a second dragon appears. Just for the day of course.
