If my memory is correct, the teams in fellowships were going to allow "contests" between fellowships. Is this correct? Is this coming soon?
I've participated in a contest between fellowships, but it all had to be done by hand. It was very fun. I would sure like to see this feature added/finished.
You are correct in what you say.
At a guess i would imagine Fencer is trying to implement that at the same time as BK 2.0 starts running, but honestly do not know, it may take longer.
Another Battleboat Idea: Loop Battleboat (Also can be Loop Battleboat Plus, Dark loop Battleboats, etc...)
Overview - if you can hit your opponenets ship with the correct amount of shots without missing, you don't give it time to "sink" and you capture it! You can then place it back into play as one of your own ships!
Details: Sink ship with correct # of hits = let say you make a hit, if you can finish hitting the rest of the ship without any "miss" shots - you capture it. So a 4 ship will take 4 shots from the first one that hit. (If you miss with one of them, the boat has more time to take on water and sinks - not letting you capture it.)
Place back on board: Not one can you place it back on the board, you can also place it in an area that your opponent already shot! (So instead of "hit marks" on the board, you will have a "1", "2", "3", "4", etc.... that way you you can tell when you last tried to shot in an area easier.
There are a few other details I'm working on - but feel free to visit the Battleboat Board to discuss this idea some more!
How could this work with dark or plus if, for instance, the first 'hit' you make is on a 2, and you still have 5 shots left? How will you count misses/hits?
I just had a thought. I live in Miami and we have these little freak weather thingys call hurricanes. Now What if one were to knock out my power for a couple of days? How many of my games would time out? Is there a way to stop this???
What if Fencer added a feature that if a game gets down to say, 5 mins before a timeout, it would use a vaction day automaticly? The feature could be turned on or off in our settings. How hard would it be to implament this? If they tell us to get out of town, the last thing on my mind would be my games :)
To be honest, I dont mind if Fencer doesnt manage to set the teams thing up quickly, it will be useful when he does, but I find it fun doing them manually and having them already :o)
I agree Steve and also you have a problem with so many fellowships (over 90 i think) that members that are in lots can only join a limited ammount of teams. It will get to a point, as i think they just found in the zoo, where you can not get enough players for the more popular games(teams).
How about philosopher's maharajah chess with suicide punishable with a loss by defalcation? (What is "defalcation"? Sounds like the game turduckens would play.)
Philosopher's football is a Monty Python sketch where famous philosopers try to figure out what to do for a long time before one of them gets the brilliant idea of kicking the ball into the goal.
Just for those that don't frequently watch british comedies.
It's also a board game alternatively called "phutball". It requires a 19x15 point board and Fencer made some remark about limiting the size of halma that suggested to me that it might be impossible.
A wiki is a web page that any user can edit at any time (provided no one is currently editing it when you try to edit it, in which case you'd have to wait until they were done editing it).
I know Fencer has a couple of battleboats variation on the to do list. However how about adding a 3rd variation to the list. I call it Battleboats Deluxe. The premise of this game is you get one shot per turn, but if you hit a ship with that one shot you get to shoot again until you miss. I play with a battery operated handheld battleship game while at break at work and this variation is on it. I think that would be neat variation and they do not have that IYT.
I have an electronic version that allows a special shot per ship that you still have, for instance the battleship hits 9 squares at once and the Sub shoots a torpedo along a row or column until it hits something. Some special shots can be used once per game as long as the ship is still alive, some can be used more than once. Also there are planes on the aircraft carrier that can be used for surveillance. I find it a much more interesting game than the standard one. :)
Why would we need a bigger grid? I like the idea of the game, Brian. I think the onej grenv suggested might be a bit too much for BK, but it does sound like loads of fun! :)
If you know a graphic artist who can make amazing checkers pieces and has a few hours to create em have him contact Fencer (remember there are 3 or 4 diff sizes that need to be made a queen an king for the diff versions too). A few of us have made sets and sent in but I dont think they were really up to par for the site.
The fastest way to create graphics for checkers is to use an appropriate true type font. You don't need to be an artist to do this.
For example, this site has a font for checkers (costs 49$), as well as for other games like cards, shogi and chinese chess: http://www.partae.com/fonts/index.html
There could also exists free fonts with checker graphics somewhere else.
