Bach's Inventions in 2 & 3 parts are a blast to play, Sister Texas.  I love Beethoven, but he makes me cry sometimes.  Mozart, what can I say?  His stuff is fun period.  I've never played any Joplin, although I do enjoy his music a lot.

Idol's new album sucks though...

I love Bach, Fwiffo.  But, I refuse to believe he is the only composer/musician with the only music style on earth.  The CDs of which you speak are far from crappy.  If I want to hear Bach, I will go play his works on the piano, and enjoy it on many different levels.  

Throw away your crappy CD's and listen to the greatest composer in world history.

XM is great! I've only had it for a month but I couldn't imagine my life without it. When I'm not listening to talk and news or Reds baseball, I listen to mostly the rock stations - Fred and XM Cafe in particular. The Starbucks Hear Music station is also great, as is the U-Pop station.

oh yeah, and Los Lonely Boys's drummer is named Ringo..and yes, he's named after another famous drummer named Ringo, I believe

I think you'll love them both..Dotsero is...well awesome jazz with energy is the best way I can think to describe it.
And Los Lonely Boys are 3 brothers who grew up listening to the best of all forms of music. Very blues-inspired, very tejano-influenced, very Sanata-inspired, along with a healthy respect for classic-rock...many flavors all melded together in a most delicious treat.
They did have a hit and got a lot of airplay with a song I'm sure you've heard and didn't know who it was with Heaven

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.  I want XM.  Just too many other things to spend money on -- like a laptop so I can keep in touch with you guys wherever. 

Jazz - now there's something I go back and forth on.  I like the jazz I like, but some of it is so discordant as to make me impatient.  That says a lot!  I love Keith Jarrett, and some of the "older" jazz.  But, I listen before I decide.  I guess that's what jazz is supposed to be anyway.

Sister Texas,  I just call music that comes out of Texas Texas music.  We have such a rich blending here from everywhere imaginable.  And, it's all part of the same scene.  I've never heard Los Lonely Boys.  But, I intend to give them a listen, as well as this Dotsero group Thanks for the tip!  You're a veritable expert on obscurity!!!!

Chekc them out...I'll get it eventuallty. I'm already convinced I'll be hooked...this group gets some airplay on Smooth Jazz stations, and probably they've been played on the XM and you just don't know it's them. Good stuff!

baddessi: Haven't heard of that group. As far as XM goes, once you get it, you're hooked. I listen to XM 98% of the time I'm in my car.

I discovered an awesome contemporary jazz group when I lived it Denver a few years back- not sure if they are still together, but they made some great CDs..their name is Dotsero. Give them a listen if you haven't heard of them. I think you'll like them.

baddessi: I like the more contemporary jazz..I like Bob James, Spirogyra, Manhattan Transfer. If you have XM Radio, the stuff they play on "Watercolors."

Salsa and Blues too...This souonds like an advertizement for New Orleans..I couldn't believe the variety of the music in that place...you can walk down Bourbon St and others going from bar to bar and hear every kind of music you can think of. Of course, Jazz is one the most prevelant. NO is world famous for it's jazz...but not many people know they can also hear awesome blues, rock, metal, motown...anything you can think of. It's a virtual smorgasbord of music.

I'm listening to Los Lonely Boys right now. I don't know how to quite catagorize them...would you think it's "Texas rock?, "Blues" "Tex-Mex"? "Latino"? 3 brothers from a small town outside Austin, I believe..or maybe San Angelo?
I just know it's awesome!

Anyone here like Zydeco?  Salsa?  Da Blues (duh).

Where is everybody?  I see The San Francisco Chronicle panned A Prairie Home Companion.  Are we in mourning?  I love that show on radio, and listen enraptured each Saturday.  But, at one time, I don't remember when, they tried putting it on TV.  In my opinion, it flopped then too.  So, the lack of enthusiasm for the movie by the critics doesn't surprise me.  

I guess for me, the show is the music.  There have been so many talented musicians on that show.  I always look forward to hearing Dallas' own expats (to Virginia) Robin and Linda Williams.  Tish Hinojosa has been there telling her own stories in music.  I remember once there was a balalaika troup on.  That was a thrill.  I think the movie would have been much better received had they had more musicians in it. 

The Chronicle spoke of Keillor singing 10 songs in the movie.   He can sing, but his singing isn't his formost talent.  Garrison Keillor's monologues are his biggest contribution to the radio show.  Keillor is such a wonderful story teller, that on the radio the magic is that the listener enjoys such vivid mental visuals of the stories that become a personal voyage because (s)he is getting those visions out of her/his own imagination.  Those images don't come across too well on the screen, because the audience doesn't use its imagination when listening to the tales.  They are watching the man standing on a stage spewing words.  On radio, I think Keillor is a musician in his own rite, even though he doesn't convert his thoughts into music.  His stories are melodic in the telling.  It's almost like the difference between reading a
book, and seeing the movie.  The music, and the monologues belong together.

Any other opinions?

 Well, here's a sad piece.  Billy Preston, called the fifth Beatle for his piano work on Abbey Road and the White Album, died today according to Google News.  He had been in a coma since November due to kidney failure.  A transplant failed in 2002 causing him to be on dialysis.  Billy Preston will be mourned by the music world, and missed by us all.
