If a draw occurs due to the game rules or an agreement of the players, the player with lower BKR advances to the next round (in case of equal BKRs, the player who did not start the game - black player in most games)
WellyWales: Thanks Welly! I didn't find those rules on my own. In some games, like Logic, a draw is fairly common. I first thought my opponent had higher BKR, but now I see it was in fact lower, so that explains the outcome
basplund: Makes me wonder, are we talking about the lower BKR at the time the game is started, or at the time it is finished ? In case of the latter, one player could sacrifice BKR points in order to win a tournament when he has a drawish position in the final.
nabla: I suppose it must be the BKR at the finish of the game, which counts as always. In theory you're right, but I doubt that anyone would do that much effort to win a tournament.
basplund: Even a prize tournament ? I admit that it should be a very rare case, but taking the BKR at the start at the game, or even at the start of the tournament (in which case it can be a compensation for having had the harder pairings), seems better. But perhaps not better that selecting the winner at random :-)
basplund: i would have thought that a final ending in a draw would go to another match? it does on other sites....ive been in a backgammon final for the last 3 rounds now....we are on rd6
Tulip: If the tournament creator sets the game type to "1 win match", a draw leads to a rematch. The advantage of the lower rated player only occurs if it is a "normal game".
Tulip: there are several hypergammon tournaments in which more than 1 player have the same score in the end .. they are all declared winner
i would guess the same would happen if a 2 player final would end in a draw ? but i have never been in such a situation .. maybe someone can find an example ? ;)
