Jim Dandy: "George W. Bush himself, with the full weight of his office (and, I’d add, at some political risk to himself) was without stint in proclaiming Islam a “religion of peace.” He even went to a Washington mosque to underline solidarity with American Muslims and their peaceful co-religionists all over the world." Yeah GW!

and

"It is an almost boundlessly tolerant city and society — New York and America. But we must make a note on this point: A tolerance is being, and has been, shown, toward Islam, which Islam emphatically does not show to other creeds in regions or countries where Islam is predominant. In some Muslim places, a mere Bible in a suitcase is an indictable offence."

I might add it can (and often does) get you killed.

This is definitely worth reading. The author offers a unique and well-thought perspective on the issue of the "ground zero" mosque.

Artful Dodger: I support his opinion that if the mosque is built, it should contain both tributes to those who were killed, and those who both risked their lives and or died trying to save them. There should also be(as he mentions) condemnation of those who executed the event. It's apparently going to be a big building, finding room shouldn't be an issue.

Jim Dandy: those were excellent points. one does have to wonder why the Muslim organizers continue to peruse the building of the mosque considering the huge criticism that's been coming their way.

Artful Dodger: Are they on record with a statement regarding the sensitivity of the issue?

Artful Dodger: If they aren't dealing with it by showing the utmost sensitivity, the whole thing should be scrapped

Jim Dandy: Maybe the very fact that they are building it three blocks from Ground Zero, and amidst such opposition, shows they are a bit insensitive to the matter.

Artful Dodger:   The Mosque was already at its site before the angry responses from the right about it being expanded.  In addition there are other Mosque which have been close to the Twin Towers before 9/11.  Should we tear all of them?  There are also "adult entertainment" establishments close to ground zero which don't exactly honor the memory of 9/11 victims.

The only arguments against this building seems to center around the prejudice that any Muslim establishment near ground zero is evil because radical muslims were responsible for the attack.  Thus, all muslims should be lumped into the same category.  As you pointed out, W visited mosques to eliminate prejudice against all American Muslims.  If the mosques had a history of supporting terrorist activity, it would be one thing.  But, I haven't heard of any such activity.

Ferris Bueller: This is a completely false statement.
