Ask questions or just talk about different languages. Since BrainKing is an international game site supporting many languages, this board can be kind of useful.
maybe another idea would be to have the poster place the code in between a certain code which then would be parsed by the site when someone reads it and shown in the language they have selected to view the site
for example you post [lang]"diky"[/lang] and i would read "dank u wel" (the site will see you write in czech as you have czech selected as your language, so it looks up your text in the czech list, and then translates it to dutch as thats the language i have selected
it might be tough though as the site wont find "diky" in the czech list as its missing some accents .. and therefore would still show it as "diky" to me as its unknown to the site :)
Fencer: I still think that my suggestion in the Features Request board would look nicer. But if you really want to stick to the table layouts then maybe alternating background colors could help ("Good Luck" in white, "Thank you" in grey, "Enjoy the game" in white, etc)
I don't really speak this language.. I think this may come in handy when someone replies to you in the language you used and you don't know what they're saying.
yoyudax:Not a problem at all. I'll wait for about a week or two until we have a thorough list, then I'll put all of the items in one single post and then we'll start translating.
Here are some of the things I have wanted to communicate. Hello, Thank you, very good game, congratulations, would you like to play again, nice move.......sorry it such a short list but it is early and I have just taken my first sip of coffee.
King Reza: Yes! Having different posts is way better than having a thread, because in a thread the posts get so small ;)
Ok, let's start listing:
Good Luck Thank you Have fun/Enjoy the game Good game Congratulations Nice move I enjoyed the game It was fun playing with you See you Hello Good night
Mr. Shumway: Sure thing. Let's first have a list of what people may want to know in every language, and when the list is complete, each native speaker of a language can create a post and give us the equivalents. And I'll put the links up here!
Walter Montego: It would even be better to put the link to a thread, not to a post! Then we could split it up in different posts. One post for each phrase or one post for each language. I personally think that one for each language would be more comfortable for searching. Also every post could then be made by a native speaker, so that they wouldn't have to be updated by Reza one by one. We would have a representative for every language :) Great idea, yoyoudax :)
yoyudax: It's easy enough to do here without too many tricks. You put into a post box just like this one the things you want in it. Then King Reza puts a link to it in the title or header at the top of this page. Then all of us can view the page and it can be updated or added to as more phrases come up.
King Reza: How could we go about setting something like that up? It sure would be nice to know that my opponent knew that I appreciated the chance to play with them or that I thought they played an awesome game.
Is there is a list at BK of how to say certain phrases like "GOOD GAME" OR "CONGATULATIONS" etc, in all or some of the languages used here. If not it would be a worthwhile list to compile.
Czuch Czuckers:That's what it sounds like to me too. I'd ask the second question --What do you think is the cure for cancer?-- indeed with a stress on YOU.
Hrqls: That makes some sense... its probably one of those that are a toss up. i suppose there are some native speakers where it sounds strange to them the other way around, what seems normal to me.
King Reza: to my (non native english ears) the sentence 'What do you think is the cure for cancer?' puts more emphasis the word 'you' (or at least it asks more directly what 'you' think while the other sentence asks more about the cure for cancer
King Reza: Both are correct, and both sound fine to this native speaker.
Also, if you should ever need to discuss Louis VI's throne and you want to avoid that string of consonants, you could of course say, "It's the throne of Louis the Sixth."
King Reza: lol Yes, that would be embarrassing..:} however, it would be rare that those consonants would come together in normal conversation. Just in case they do...LOL..say you learned the word from a Southerner...everyone knows that the South has their own language and their own way of pronouncing words..:}
Doris: How tough English sometimes becomes! All I need in the middle of talking to an important person there in the U.S., is having to use that sentence with those consonants!

Last night I came by a sentence like this:
It's Lui the sixth's throne.
I was wondering if the native speakers really pronounce all the 5 consonants that I have shown in red. It's really difficult for me to pronounce them all, though not impossible. I really have to concentrate to pronounce them fully and without a mistake!
Konu: Re: A huge thank you to PhatPlaya for the translation
Walter Montego: no i dont have a link to the picture but anybody who is curious feel free to pm me your email addy and i will send it to you. its just characters on the picture and no author name as it was bought from a large D.I.Y store where hundreds of them were there and i just bought it to fill a blank space on my wall as i liked the style of it and it tied in well with my colour scheme
Konu: Re: A huge thank you to PhatPlaya for the translation
Fiona: Cool. Do you have a link to the picture for us to see it while reading this translation? Was redsales in on the translation too? Does it mean anything, or is it just art with the characters? Have you tried tracking done the author or creator of it and seeing what his meaning of it is?
Konu: A huge thank you to PhatPlaya for the translation
this was the translation he gave me - at least i can tell anyone who asks what it means now
The large character in the red circle The calligraphy of this character is a little unusual. Usually characters in good Chinese calligraphy are supposed to fit inside a square. I looked through the different databases because the character was hard to find. The closes I could come up with was: 有, yǒu, to have, to possess (complex pictograph of a right hand grasping the abundance of the moon)
The white characters inside the circle 土, tǔ, earth, soil (pictograph of an object rising through the earth) 水, shuǐ, water, river (pictograph of streams flowing together) 木, mù, tree, wood (pictograph of a tree) 食, Shí, food, eat (complex pictograph containing the pictographs for gather, rice and spoon)
The red characters in the vertical stamp The only unusual character was the second one from the top. That character seems to be the pictograph for fire. 木, mù, tree, wood (pictograph of a tree) 火, huǒ, fire (pictograph of rising flames) 水, shuǐ, water, river (pictograph of streams flowing together) 食, Shí, food, eat (complex pictograph containing the pictographs for gather, rice and spoon)
thank you Walter and Pedro - i have received a message from phatplayer and have emailed him the pics - i will keep you informed what they say when he gets back to me.
Pedro Martínez: I asked him indirectly through his friend phatplayer. Between the two of them I'm sure they'll have it. Phatplayer said he wrote to her just a few minutes ago, so when she comes on they should be able to make the connection. She's made me curious as to what it might say or mean.
Fiona: I've asked a couple people if they can do the translation for you. It might be hard since art can be anything, especially if stylized for looks. Reza had a link to some old Persian art that was neat looking, but made of writing. It will take someone fluent in Chinese to give it a go if it's anything like that.
I have the feeling those translation machines are really bad at Chinese to English. :)
Hi all. Fortunately I have found an internet cafe not very far from our house, but still I'm too lazy to go there everyday. So I'll be online from time to time just checking my message box and playing in the few games that I have left unresigned.
I've added Walter as a moderator just in case none is available to moderate the board. Have fun.
Hi, i am just wondering if anybody can translate chinese as when i decorated my lounge i found some nice wall-art which has symbols on it and i have always wondered what it says or means. If anybody can help please can you pm me your email address and i will email the pics of the art i am on about
