AlliumCepa: Another thing about the wall page: you can see a text box to write some graffiti on someone's wall on the left side and the actual grafiti on the right side of the page. On pages with lots of comments, there's just a lot of wasted space on the left as you scroll down the page. Why not place the text box above the part that is currently on the right?

1.We have Show all Public Friends link under each Profile's Public Friends list. But once this link is used, on return to player's Profile, I can see the same list expanded. There is no "Collapse Public Friends list" or "Show less friends"⇦ Edit (sorry, that looks fixed now)
2. Some people have too much writings on their Wall. Another set of links "Show all" / "Show less" would be nice thing to have.
I would like to suggest a new version of Horde chess... Perhaps calling it advance Horde chess... Teh statistics on horde chess are lopsided to say the least and perhaps advancing the pawns up a little farther or adding a few to the back row or even filling all the empty spots. it seems that the game is rarely played anymore. no one wants to play with black. perhaps a new version will change this.
To spur more movement in games; I suggest that we add another page to the statistics page. I would like to see a list of how many times the top movers have been in the top fifty daily movers.
Fencer: it seems like the 'back to the list of game types/tournaments' links are working fine now, as long as you don't sign up for a tournament. if i sign up for it, they bring me back to the tournaments page istead of the search result.
Marfitalu: I had similar thought when we first had Random Team. I did post a question to the Madhouse about how they would like Stairs. As one whole including all games or sections (Random Gammon, Random Boats etc..), its difficult as you could end up with huge amount Stairs
the search-function on the tournaments-board could use a little improvement: it would be nice if e.g. a search for backgammon-tournaments would bring a list of backgammon-tournaments with open slots. right now it brings a list of tournaments where some kind of spider-keryo-jungle still has open slots, but all the backgammon-tourneys have allready started. and lets say i search for backgammon-tournaments and klick on one of them. now there's a link 'back to the list of tournaments' - shouldn't this link send me back to the result of my search?
Fencer, i think this was mentioned before by coan.net
Could we have have a way of entering more than one Team into a Team Tournament. I know this is a problem encountered by Fellowships dedicated to a particular game(s) like Gammons & Boats, but i run into this problem to in the Madhouse as well.
Its a shame so many players that want to play miss out until the next Tournament of that particular game which could be months away
It would be good to add a number to the "Link" link on s.o.'s profile page, indicating the number of links to find there - just as near the "Started games" link. It would save some clicks to empty lists ;)
When receiving a "public friend" request could there be an option to accept/decline right there on the message page? As it is now, I open the Friends page on a new tab, select the appropriate option, submit the change, close the tab and go back to delete the message... too many clicks for me As an alternative the option to approve/decline a batch of them would also help a little. Right now, even if I choose the option in each of the comboboxes, I can only submit one change at a time...
MadMonkey: The flag of a player is changed for the fellowship flag of who they are playing for? Hmm. That's an interesting notion. Let's see what Fencer and/or other posters think.
I was just going through lots of Team Tournaments games, just to see how all players were doing and one thing kept jumping out
I kept get lost as to which of the 2 players was on my Team
For all purposes there is nothing (except the Tournament title) that distinguishes a game from any normal game, but unless i hover over that, i do not know who is on which Team.
How about in Team Tournaments & Challenge matches, the Flag of a player is changed for the Fellowship Flag of who they are playing for
It would certainly show who is playing for who, and look quite smart. It actually shows you are playing for a Team, rather than as an individual
Would be nice if I could set brainking up to send me a text message when some one sends me a message with a short blurb of the begining of the message. Should also be able to set restrictions such as:
Only between 7AM and midnight local time Not game invites Not server messages Only from Friends
stuff like that.
I sent you a message on how to send text to almost all north american cell companies phones. Anyone else have ideas on what other restrictions should be allowed?
AlliumCepa: Spring is where??? We've got a good four to six inches of snow on the ground that fell through the night, not a blooming flower in sight anywhere Have seen a couple of cardinals and robins (birds) tho, so I guess they count
Thema: Re: Is this possible to add this 4 chess variants ?
wetware: Hi, yes I'm !
*** Excuse me for my (bad) english language ***
I have participated in tournament Fischerandom version of ITALIAN progressive chess (not SCOTTISH) and I prefer ALWAYS variant with "Italian mate"
But this is not very important... I would like pleasure that in BK play "progressive"; for me is better "Italian"... for other player is better Scottish).
Ok for Fischerandom progressive chess versions added in BK... but ALSO "FIDE" progressive chess; for me is better "FIDE Italian"... for other player is better Fischerandom Scottish.
Ok for the opening moves from the standard starting position have been explored in great detail... but ALSO a normal "FIDE" chess are in the standard starting position have been explored in great detail and all people play !
Now I do not know that novelties are very hard to find now... BUT I WANT PLAY "PROGRESSIVE" !
Now, sorry... BUT I do not understand this:
======================================== (I've got one TN saved that I will not waste in any event less serious than a world championship.) ========================================
What means ?
I think the Fischerandom versions have more original analysis because a young variants... BUT "old" variants (FIDE, Italian progressive, ecc.) can have originals analysis.
Thema: Re: Is this possible to add this 4 chess variants ?
tamerlano: I recognize your name from a couple of the World Internet Progressive Chess Championships. (You and I were both participants in WIPCC 1998.)
I know you've also participated in similar events, for the Fischerrandom version of (Scottish) progressive chess.
If we were to have progressive chess versions added here at BK, I'd much rather see Fischerrandom versions--or at least have them offerred as alternatives. To me, the opening moves from the standard starting position have been explored in great detail. At the highest levels of play the range of acceptable opening moves is exceedingly narrow--at least in the Scottish version. Playable theoretical novelties are very hard to find now. (I've got one TN saved that I will not waste in any event less serious than a world championship.)
I think the Fischerrandom versions allow for more original analysis. What do you think?
AbigailII: Sorry for my rough english. I thought about only ONE move like a Rook, in order to eludate the dumb finals with Bishops on different colored square.
P-G: 1) I would not like to change the rules of chess. 2) A bishop that adds rook movements to its existing movement is called a queen. 3) As a variant, I doubt it'll see much of a fan base; there are already many chess variants.
In Westernized chess, one thing is irritating: the finals with Bishops on different colored cases. What do you think about the possibility of Bishop to move from one cell like the Rook?
I am surprised that so far, person had the idea of joining the cannon of Chinese chess. You know, the piece that moves as the Rook but could capture only if another piece is screening to the target.
I think it would be good to add it to a game like chess Grand Chess.
there is a little but very promissing group of games that use cards and they are played like board games ... I cannot imaging playing bridge at turn-based site and wait 2 weeks for for my partner to respond, or even fast Gin would be unbearable when time frame for a game would be 30 days or even more than 1 day ... card games have also something more unsuitable for turn-based site ... they are by nature closed games, and players memory plays a crucial role ... so, what you remember now, in just few hours would disappear from your depository and the whole tactic would be useless ... making notes what you are to remember is just boring task and it takes the whole pleasure of playing cards away from the players ... but card board games offer simple solution to this dilemma ... the best example of thi kind of games is poker itself played as a poker squares, and the other one being cribbage which is even better than poker and can be played on 4x4 or 5x5 grid ... Below is a link to David Parlett's game called Get Stuck ... please look at the rules ... it's fantastic game and worthy implementation: http://www.davidparlett.co.uk/oricards/getstuck.html
or the other game, also by David Parlett: http://www.davidparlett.co.uk/oricards/abstrac.html
Fencer: yea... that is what I mean. One of the things that helped me with the site loading quicker was to turn off all the JavaScript items. (of course when I use the Chat, I would not mind using the JavaScript since I don't need the pages to load as quickly as I do when I want to run through a lot of games.)
Fencer: Thanks for the Chat Room page. (even though I would not mind using a java version of the chat box..... just don't want to have the java version loading on every page...... since when I want to chat, I will go to the chat room page.)
I would still love to see a page dedicated to just the chat box(es).
A page that ignores the java settings for those of us who don't want chat boxes on all the other pages so it does not slow those pages down from loading (for those outside of the BK quick load zone around central Europe)
You could create a simple page, with the chat option, and all the instructions on one page.
To reduce White's opening advantage, Robert Bruce suggested in 1963 in Nost-algia the following simple rule change: on his first turn, White only makes a single move. This rule change found wide acceptance (AISE shifted from the classical version to the balanced version in 1990), and usually is preferred above the unbalanced variant (although Fabrice Liardet still organizes Classical Marseillais tournaments in Geneva). The balanced variant has been called Balanced Marseillais Chess, but the `balanced' is increasingly being omitted.
And is this possible to add also this PROGRESSIVE chess variants ?
David B. Pritchard (chess writer) interview of year 2005:
Question: What chess variants do you like most ? Answer: “Alice (especially!), Avalanche, Hostage, Marseillais, Progressive.”
Question: What advice do you have for an avid variant player looking for opponents and competition ?
Answer: “Join A.I.S.E. (Associazione Italiana Scacchi Eterodossi) or the B.C.V.S. (British Chess Variants Society) I am not qualified to make suggestions about meeting players on the Internet !”
Pritchard writed in your 2 books:
“Today A.I.S.E. (Associazione Italiana Scacchi Eterodossi) has done much to popularize Chess Variants by organizing two Olympiads and the same time establishing Italy as the leading Chess Variants nation“(The Encyclopedia of Chess Variants, Games & Puzzles Publications, 1994);
“When there is a talk of chess variants one country predominates: Italy. It is perhaps curious that a country that has no great claims to chess mastery should be the acknowledged repositary of variant wisdom.” (Popular Chess Variants, Batsford, 2000).
And if you want know the rule of this chess variants (in italian language ) read here:
Fencer: for instance; right between the message area and the little wrench, you could have a little checkbox, which when clicked automatically adds a "/r", so you always reply in private when that checkbox is clicked. When you want to go back to public messages, you simply unclick it! Of course, if you are having multiple conversations the old /m and name would still work.
rednaz23: It would cause a server load increase if the list of online opponents has to be calculated on every page. Unlike the list of online friends (which is more static than dynamic because you don't change your friends every day - or do you? ), online opponents list depends on your current started games list which can be, in some cases, very long and time-consuming to be parsed for each page request.
rednaz23: Regarding a chat box for each fellowship - do you mean a fellowship chat box at the fellowship page or just your fellowship room at the chat box displayed on all BrainKing pages?
rednaz23: I am not sure if I know what you mean. Where exactly would you like to click to make a private reply? What if you only click accidentally or want to copy and paste some text?
Is it a possibility down the line to make online opponents an option on the right hand column? I know there is the option on the left hand column to click to the page for it, but having the full list on the main page would be a good addition in my opinion. Down the line I am sure it could happen... ;-)
