Vikings: I agree. I had posted a message about the way I think it should be for the stairs system to work. Forcing you to challenge at same level or *below* is a weird system for a stair/ladder. Lower ranked players thirst for challenge, higher ranked players, not so much. I do not like IYT ladder system, as it is unfair to *exchange* positions with the one you defeat. Gaining a step(for the winner of the lower step) and losing a step(for the loser of the higher step) is what I consider fair. And, in my opinion, the lower ranked player should not lose steps on defeat as well as the higher ranked player does not gain steps on win. So, basically, you only gain steps when you win against same or higher steps, you only lose steps when you lose against lower steps. You cannot deny challenges but a limit on the maximum number you can challenge and be challenged should exist. More than 1 each, for certain.
Purple: Untrue. GT rolls out more new games and variants than any of the three sites. They have some fantastic people programming for them; always upgrading. I'm tired of people putting GT down without actually even giving them a chance. All I hear is same tired complaint that they're too strict on their DBs. So? Is that it? If Marshmud were smart, he would reach out to Badger, GT's owner, for advice and friendship. She's a very nice person and was in the same position Marshmud is in now when she took over from Chad (GT's Founder). No reason these sites have to be mortal enemies.
I hope Marshmud that you get this site...fix a lot of the proboems people complain about and straighten out others LOL...I personally think that a new set of "minders" would be a good thing as well...Except for 1 or 2 of the old ones there isnt many left that Fencer picked....it is all one sided at the moment :(
rod03801: The biggest problem with our stair system is that you can only challenge down or even, so there is no incentive to make challenges. I know that when I get to the top of one I just sit there. also there are too many 2 game matches that end in a draw, there should always be a winner
Marshmud: His biggest headache was when he had DB's. Some very toxic foul mouths went completely out of control and it became too big a pain to monitor. So Patrick aborted them all.
rod03801: Believe it or not I become friends with Patrick Chu owner of IYT. My daughter went to the college where chu went and designed IYT. He has a big wallet now.
Marshmud: I haven't experienced it either. But I don't use fischer that much here. Our user created tournaments are awesome.
I personally hated IYT's ladder system. But I ended up hating about everything about IYT. (And that was my full time game site before I discovered Brainking. I was obsessed with IYT. I bought all their merchandise too lol) I think ours is decent. But seems to have lost interest. At least none of the ladders I'm in here are as active as they used to be. Err. I mean stairs. LOL...
rod03801: I think it is a superb feature of BK. I would think it should be a priority to fix. I however have never experience a timeout by error as many here have.
When it comes to tournaments BK is best. On Ladders IYT is much the best. GT has most of its resources promoting non-games type social activities with their DB's. But to each his own.
Marshmud: Oh, no, all tournaments are site made or Club made. (some automatic, some wiki-based) Definitely not like here. I was only mentioning the similar time control opportunity
rod03801: Can you set up your own tournys at Gold Token Rod? I know people who play there but I really just play here and Tibs site Dragonheelsliar so I don't get out much. lol. Im just curious of other sites that allow you to describe your own tournament time limits.
happyjuggler0: I know IYT has 28 and 48 hour tournys you can sign up for and weekends your given 48 extra hours but I guess I mean a site where you can set your own limits and your own game perimeters.
SL-Mark: I disagree that the site is a dinosaur, played by dinosaurs. That is your opinion. You mention about phone and apps. Ive played at BK with my android for about 2 years now and every day at BK. The challenge you speak of has been planned very precisely with 3rd party individuals and I'm comfortable with saying BK has a future. So I disagree again
You are entitled to your opinion and I appreciate your feedback. I do wish you were a bit encouraged with the idea of getting BK out of cob webs however. I hope one day you can enjoy BK again and I mean no disrespect to you.
Marshmud: IYT uses "green dot" time controls for tournaments; I am not sure what they use for other games since the only games I play there are tournament games.
Marshmud: Goldtoken uses SOMETHING like it. Not exactly the same. Not as good probably. But it's something to help some games from "going on forever" for those who want that. I haven't used it much over there, so maybe it's more similar than I think. They also have tournaments with a "total length" too. (Their "Olympics" for example)
Marshmud: No, but I do play chess. Point of post was offer something to your question. Additional point, imho, not negative, but vein of thought. What do you disagree with?
SL-Mark: So your primarily a chess player. Not really sure your point. After a month of investigating I tend to disagree with you. I understand however your negativity
Marshmud: Pretty much all of the dedicated chess sites do. And plenty apps available for your phone too. Haven't seen any with the bonus system though.
I think you have a challenge on your hands though. Online turned based games have evolved considerably. Whilst I do like this site, it is a dinosaur, played by dinosaurs.
Aganju: To me there is no site better then BK. It just needs attention and someone devoted. Thanks Aganju for your offer. I have learned you programmers make good salary's. lol.
Marshmud: I am a programmer but not in Java or C#, I only know languages that are probably not in use here, and I have no web-related experience, that's why I didn't answer. I am willing to help if you ever need help (as much as I can), and I am not interested on making money out of it - I'd love to be able improve the site :-)
Aganju: Never even gave that a thought. I did however ask someone to go in half but I decided to go alone as its a good investment imo. My fear was the technical side of BK. But solutions have been discussed and Im cautious but optimistic that BK can once again be the best again.
I did ask on the features board for any programmers, code readers etc to message me if there was anyone interested in working on the BK code and I had no responses. I even offered a percentage of BK revenue but no takers. Luckily I found someone interested in the BK site and not the money itself for now. I even have fencer to thank because without his ideas and advice Id never be able to pull this off.
ThunderGr: And I received your reply. Thanks for all your advice. I hope to move this forward over the next 4 to 6 weeks. I only hope for a little patience from the BK family and that the nasdaq market doesn't collapse in the next month...lol
ThunderGr: Did you get my message Theodoros? It explained that fencer would stay on a year and help with technical issues. I want to go over some new details this week with you. Do you see what your getting yourself into? lol.

The Col: It feel ashamed to think he comes from the UK. I hope he never takes ill and has to have a colostomy. Thankfully I am in good health and do not have colostomy bag.
Dice Cheater: I have just got back from two weeks camping holiday with the family with limited internet access. I've just played a move in all my games. I would have lost them all with no holiday allowance. I want to win games by out playing ( or out lucking) my opponent not by time default. There is a life outside brainking.
Walter Montego: Well that's exactly it, well put, Walter. The time control 'doesn't stop us from playing and finishing a game much faster'. It shouldn't. Time controls for board games were invented to maintain a good dynamic play, that holds true for live games as well as internet games. Now, had this website retained its early dynamism then all would be good but it didn't and I dare venture that it's the abuse of what are clearly over-generous time controls and holiday settings which one of the main reason for this loss. That's my opinion.
Aganju: Though my time controls might leave more time on the clock than you or I would use, it doesn't stop us from playing and finishing a game much faster. I try to set the time parameters for the maximums that I'll tolerate.
Another proposal for extending time on a Fischer Clock would be to allow both opponents to stop the clock if they both agreed and let either of them start it again.
happyjuggler0: This is a very good way for getting the time parameters and most of the other things about a game that you prefer. There is one thing that an accepting player can do that I do not like. He can shut off the auto-pass even though you created the game. I have never understood why Fencer set it up this way nor does he have an option to let the game creator decide to allow the auto-pass by turned off or left on.
ThunderGr: Oops! Wrong name. That is what I get for casually reading the posts.
I'll just leave the suggestion out there for anyone with open slots for games. Use the "waiting games" feature to find time controls you like, and use the "new game" feature to create your own open invitations.
