What happened to the option when starting a new game to prevent a player already playing a game with you from grabbing more games from the waiting area?
Aganju: Thanks! So I guess if non-paying members get the automatic vacation as well, the premium membership details page needs to be updated. Currently it says that only paid members get automatic vacation.
thechosen0ne: the vacation system was changed a while ago, and the whole flag has no meaning anymore. Everybody's vacation works the same way, and there is nothing you have to do (or could do). As was explained, whenever the first game runs out, all games get an extra hour, and your vacation time is reduced by an hour. Also you have two 'weekend days' which by default are Sat and Sun, but you can modify them. On those days, you do not use up vacation at all, its free. If you have enough vacation left, you don't need to do anything, just go in vacation. If you have not enough left, nothing you can do.
The difference for non-paying and paying members is the total amount of vacation you get on Jan/1: Black rooks get 40 days (this means 8 weeks, as only five days a week are needed - see 'weekend' above), and non-paying get (I think) 10 days = 2 weeks. No roll-overs, just everybody gets reset on Jan/1 to his current membership's amount. I hope that helps you!
Oh, and about the -2 minutes: The timer demon comes around every ten minutes. Until then, the remaining time just keeps counting, so might end up with it showing up to -9 minutes. That does not matter to you, the timer demon applies your vacation (as explained above) before it times you out. It's the same program, so it can't happen the wrong way around.
happyjuggler0 coan.net: Thanks for clarifying, but it does bring up the question for free members: Does their ability to use vacation days differ from paid members in that they must postpone for a fixed amount of time? How does a free member use their 10 vacation days?
thechosen0ne: I guess I should have looked at your profile before posting. You have the automatic vacation turned on.
Imagine that you run out of time in a game that does not have a green dot (no vacation time allowed) or a red dot (no vacation time allowed; also no "weekend days" allowed). What happens is that you lose an hour of your vacation time, but all of your non-dot games also gain an hour of time left to play.
Once you run out of vacation time, then the next time you run out of time in a game you lose that game.
happyjuggler0: I did check the box that says "Activate automatic vacation", but it doesn't seem to do anything as the time for my games can still go to -2 mins.
There's also the problem of not being able to see how many vacations days I have left. Also how do I postpone my games for a set number of days? Is this feature only available for free members?
thechosen0ne: On the left side of the site there is a column of links.
1) Click "Settings". 2) Click the "Calendar" tab on the top of that page. 3) Check the box near the top of the calendar page. Then go to the bottom and click "save and finish". 4) Check your profile to make sure it worked.
this site is getting to be damned ridiculous.. was running fine for about 1/2 an hour then all of a sudden every other move go to white pages again!!! Where is Fencer????
cd power: well I *don't* clear the cache, neither automatically nor manually, and I don't have issues. So I think it's not the cache. What I sometimes see is delays in DNS resolving or in the hops - to verify that, open a CMD window (Start/Run/ type 'CMD'), and enter there "tracert www.brainking.com". You can then see which servers you hop along until you get there. If the shown delays in milliseconds suddenly jump up, you see the server that is the issue. (nothing you can do about it though). Also, try to connect to http://81.91.83.6 (the server IP from the last line in the list - type/copy it in your browser) instead to www.brainking.com. This avoids speed issues with your DNS, which are quite common. The only disadvantage is that when Fencer moves the server, the number becomes invalid
Hrqls: I agree with you... I do the same thing. I'm in the USA, and have never experienced these sorts of problems. Occasionally, the site may run a little bit slow at times, but nothing that prevents me from making my moves. I used to have all kinds of problems when I wasn't clearing the cache, but now that it is set up automatically to clear the cache, I don't have issues.
crosseyed: i have never have problems with this site, i am in the netherlands, using both old and new equipment, using various types of browser (internet explorer, firefox, opera), on pc or laptop or android phone
one thing which might be different on my systems than the default systems is that i dont keep my history or cache (except on my phone) .. maybe a large history or old cached files can cause problems ?
MadMonkey: It is why I did not join in on your tourny and sure that is the reason for your low turn out. . Yesterday when most was complaining, I was fine. This morning (7am est) I could view any page it seemed but when I went to play a game it would not load. Now its fine.
MadMonkey: I am not so sure about the last part of your message. I have had to leave this site six times already within an hour. I find it so frustrating.
crosseyed: This white page thing brings back bad memories of when the site was very young lol (well, i know what i mean ) ......we went through a few months of this white page problem in its first year, but Fencer cured it in the end. Hopefully that will help him search down what is causing it
