tippyc: You know, long time ago, I thought that card games would be a nice addition. But then I realized that most card games don't work well on sites where there can be days, if not weeks between moves, and one game could last half a year, or longer. See, with go or chess or checkers, or most other games here, whenever you see a board, you see all the information. History is not important - you base your move on the current position, and it doesn't matter how you got there.

But that is quite different with card games. Previous played card matter. In some games, knowing which cards have been played, by whom, and in which order, is vital. And that works well when you play a card game face-to-face. You play on game at the time, and it's finished in a reasonable amount of time. Playing a myriad of games at once, streched over long periods of time just isn't the same. Even if you had a game history to browse. (Which you normally don't have).

Don't get me wrong. I love card games. I love them even more than board games. I just don't thinkt they will work well on a turn based site.

AbigailII: i hadnt thought of it that way :) maybe the previous moves column could show what had been played. the computer could remember instead of the person. that might raise other problems though....

AbigailII: I think some card games would work on a turn-based game site, but I think it would need to be tweeked and such to get it to work well.

I would like to see a couple card games put on this site like how the ponds work - like Black Jack.

For example, each round, you try to get at close to 21 as possible - if bust, you are out of the game. Then the "dealer / computer" does their hand. If you beat the dealer, you stay in - if not, you are out. Continue to do that until either 1 or 0 players are left as the winner of the BJ21 game. (or no winner if all bust/lose) - maybe make it that bust "fall" out of the game first, and lose falls out after the bust people. [edited to add - actually might be better to have it that you are out of the game after 3 times getting beat or something similar, instead of just 1]

Plus I have an idea for Strategy War - a War like card game that would be perfect for a turn-based game site: http://www.coan.net/strategy-war.html

Plus a simple high/low guessing card game, also would work nicely on a turn-based game site: http://www.coan.net/high-low.html

Other card games that might work well: Uno would be interesting. no-limit texas holdem might work - start each player with 100 brains to "bet" - but quickly raise the starting anti's (or whatever that is called) so to make sure the game does not last forever (or have longer game version starting at 250/500 brains) (and I say "brains" as in fake money - don't think you would want to call it money so the site does not get confused for a gambling site.)
