Subject: Calling on all Firefox geeks!
A few weeks ago I couldnt use rich text editor until I upgrade to Firefox 2.0. I upgraded, got my rich text editor back. NOW today it is gone again. If I switch to plain text editor I can write but the smiley link is no longer active (Yes I double checked and I have the check box marked to see smilies)
I'm at a loss here. Would it be something in the latest Windows update that might have messed up my java stuff again? Any help would be appreciate. I love Rich text editor!!

Rose: What extensions (or addons) did you install yesterday?

The RTE (Rich Text Editor) is a JavaScript thingamajing, to use it you only need JavaScript enabled; some extension may have disabled it.

[Edit] Try disabling extensions one by one until the RTE starts working again.

Rose:If you're using XP, try creating a checkpoint now, when done, try using one of your previous checkpoints that your windows creates and restore your windows to a day or two before today.  If things are O.K., then the problem is with what you have downloaded, if not, they have other source.

Fencer: I know my Error Console contains hundreds of these:

Warning: Expected declaration but found '/'. Skipped to next declaration.
Source File: http://brainking.com/js/menu.css
Line: 45
Warning: Unknown property '_padding-top'. Declaration dropped.
Source File: http://brainking.com/js/style/rte_default.css
Line: 22
Warning: Unknown property 'layer-background-color'. Declaration dropped.
Source File: http://brainking.com/js/context.css
Line: 62

I have loads of them, whatever they may be

MadMonkey: No, those are CSS errors, it has nothing to do with JavaScript. Try to look for something like http://brainking.com/js/rte-12.js etc. (ends with .js)

Fencer: I wish it did. I have games that have no dice. Parts of Ludo board turning up where they shouldnt be, and the smiley above message boxes (including the one i am typing in now) not even there, to name but a few

MadMonkey: None of these is JavaScript-related. You better check if some of your browser's extensions is not doing some funny stuff.

Fencer: Maybe you have missed it bit it has been mentioned on brainking quite a few times the last couple of week. Boats taking the place of dice, missing dice etc.. so i dont think it is just my browser

MadMonkey: i never had those problems, neither at work or at home or at my laptop .. so it cant be on brainkings side

my guess is that its your cache

Hrqls: My cache is cleared automatically when i log off and i have never had these problems until recently like others here, so i know its not me.
Of course it can not be brainking, where shall i start on my list of bugs

MadMonkey: lol .. brainking has its bugs for sure .. but i dont think this is caused by brainking .. if it is then i should get those bugs as well, and i never did

what type of machine do you play on ?
(os, cpu, ram)

Hrqls: I use my Compaq Presrio, Windows XP home and use Firefox mainly, but do use I.E. sometimes. As i said it has only started last couple of weeks, since others have mentioned it as well i know its not just me. Maybe as it is others as well its microsoft, lets blame them

MadMonkey: blaming ms always works :)
i know on my old machine at home (win98se, 400mhz, 128mb ram) i do have problems with refreshing, when i go to a game which i played previously (and i havent cleared the cache) then i might see the old board as it was at that time (although i can be several moves further as i might have played those moves at my machine at another computer) .. also when i go to the discussion boards i might see old messages as new (and new ones missing)

pressing F5 (or even ctrl-F5) solves this .. therefore i think its a cache problem

the battleboats-as-dice problem seems a bit like this

of course your machine is a bit better than my older machine .. but maybe brainkings load increased a bit causing this to happen with not-so-old machines as well ? or maybe the traffic is routed differently making data arrive slower and the browser grabs the (wrong) cache files? .. i am not sure if last scenario can happen though :)

Subject: Re: Calling on all Firefox geeks!
Hrqls: It was not me that had the dice/boats problem. I kept getting game where either one or both dice were missing. Seems ok today (at the moment). I was getting parts of a Ludo board beside mine & my opponents name in games, where the little graph is. That was the latest thing.
I look after my PC, clear it virtually every day, scan it & defrag it weekly, and my virus scanner and firewall are working fine. Funny enough, it only happens on this site, no where else i go. So as much as people say its not brainking, will someone tell me why it ONLY happens on this site ?

MadMonkey: hmm not sure .. maybe you visit this site more often than other sites ?
maybe the other sites have different files for each page while brainking uses something else (i think :)) ?

i play a lot of backgammon games, quite some battleboats (didnt play ludo for a few weeks though), and some more games, but everything looks as it should for me

maybe fencer just added this for overseas players ;)
