nobleheart: i saw a moth fluttering madly against the trunk of a tree last night in my headlights, and i knew what S/he was thinking: "damn! it's COLD! i can't fly! this isn't supposed to be happening! helllllllp!!!"
or something much like that, i'm sure.
i think it's the temperature see-saw we've been on all winter, at least around the eastern seaboard here (can you say, "global warming"? sure. i knew you could), and that a few warm days we've had recently have fooled some bugs and buds into coming out way too early.
Ms. ScarletRose: if You mean the first day of spring, and if the Vernal Equinox is the first day of spring, which i believe it is, that's March 20 this year.

Foxy Lady: We didn't have a blizzard but we had some snow, & we are also in the 60s, which is also bizzaar for us in Pa. I for one would like winter to get here
Asunto: for my garden buds to fight off the winter blahs
Forcing branches for indoor bloom is one of the great pleasures of late winter, and it's a snap to do. Branches that force best include the Forsythia & Redbud, as well as Pussy Willow, Quince, Cherry, Apple(ornamental crabapples work well), and Witchhazel.
The easiest way to force blooms is to wait until you notice the buds starting to swell. Then just cut the branches, bring them indoors, put them in water, and wait a few days for them to work their magic.
If you want to introduce the season even sooner, you can cut the branches after the shrub has been dormant at least six weeks. Completely submerge the cuttings in a tub of cold water for several hours. Re-cut the ends, vertically slicing the lower inch or 2 of each branch in half so it can better take up water. Put the branches in a large vase of water in a cool spot near a window, and in two or three weeks, you'll have beautiful blooms.

Canada has a very large and diverse range of geographic features. Canada is divided into 10 provinces and 2 territories. Canada stretches from the Pacific Ocean on the west, to the Atlantic Ocean on the east. Northern Canada reaches into the Arctic Circle, while southern Canada stretches below the northern points of the United States.
ScarletRose: mmm.a tree for christmas...mmm...doubt they would let me ho ho ho across the border with a big real tree..but I willl start tomthink of something clever as an alternative.
Foxy Lady: re:
nobleheart: Nice to see since were expecting snow lol........A blast coming down from Canada is going to hit us good so the weather channel says.
---
commentary:
why is it canadian weathermen(correctly say the cold snowy weather is coming from the arctic.
and
why is it USA weathermen(incorrectly say the cold snowy weather is coming from the canada.
off all people, shouldn't the US weather men have some idea of were it comes from & dont they know that we get it too?
PS foxy,I am not wanting the snow..yuck to snow.
we have had nothing but cold rain so far.
the wollemi pine is australian from memory and was discovered (rediscovered by a group)
the find was kept secret for years until the propogated and started to grow them for distribution within australia.....I havent read the links but would assume they arent available yet to overseas....only within australia?
i have just looked for stockists in our area and there isnt any but WhisperzQ would be able to buy it readily if he had the $55 hahahah
when 1st discovered, they were fenced & locked in,fearing tree poachers.
thought to be priceless.
now,it is thought the best way to protect them, was to breed them & sell them to promote there spread.
arboretums & botanical gardens can even order them now:
