ScorpionOct64: 1) Just because someone can come on here does not mean they have there own computer. They may be at the library.
2) You can get a cheap laptop for under $300 here in canada
3) Free membership does not mean they are taking advantage of a site. Sure paying membership makes more money then advertisment but Fencer stil makes something on the free members.

Fencer needs to take care of everyone paying and nonpaying. Some changes take more time then others to implement. Sure it would be nice if he gave us more feedback on what he is working on but in general he is pretty good at getting things done in a reasonable time frame and usually helpful in answering requests.

Sujet: Opinion Polls
I know an 'other' option has been discussed and I think something like that would be good. What I tink might be better though is to have an optional Comment Box, so you could add something like 'I picked this one because...' or 'I like this one but...' or 'I kinda liked this other one too...'.
I thinks comments like this would really be helpful in Fellowships where the Big Boss wants to know whether or not s/he should create something for the fellowship, say, what type of pond to make. These comments would probably only be visible to the creator of the poll and not for everyone to see.

Sujet: Fast moves
Since automatic movement sequence has been implemented in some checkers variants (when we choose a pice, and brainking moves it to the final possible place in multiple captures), could it be possible to choose only the starting and finishing point in halma (since the path doesn't matter), or even to choose "checkpoints" in froglet, where ther is only one path to there, and there decide which way to go (if I eant to eat 6 frogs, and the first four have to be THAT four, we could be able to click on the "eater" and on the fourth blank square)
Hope it's not too confusing, especially on the froglet part

Fencer, would it be possible to have the little red numbers we have in Friends lists, also in the Who is online & Online opponents list ?

Then if any of our opponents are on, for those of us that have lots of games, it would be easy to see which games to move in

Snoopy: Yes, you are correct. I had forgotten we could do that too. I think he would like to be able to filter the Waiting Game page too. It would be kind of a pain to click on each person in the waiting room to see if they are a pawn or not.

But yeah, at least it is possible to place a game in the waiting room and restrict what level you want to play against. Of course it limits the amount of people that would see your game waiting.

ScorpionOct64: After reading your message on the General Chat board, am I guessing correct that pawns are writing you because you accept their games and then you don't play very fast?

As a very slow player myself, I can't think of the last time I got a negative message from someone because of my slow play - but it might be that I say so on my profile which helps. Maybe writing something about how you like to play and such in your profile - where many will go to your profile before sending you a message - it might help.

just a suggestion.

ScorpionOct64: I understand what you're saying. They can make as many accounts as they want, and keep coming after you with different user names, I do think that's one thing that some people really take advantage of, they make a whole bunch of accounts and figure there's no point in paying for a membership.
I personally don't have any issues with pawns harassing me, but I do think they get away with a lot more than they should. A pawn membership is to get a taste of the site and then buy a membership, or else just be happy with a few games. I enjoyed the site and bought a membership. I can see where money might be a problem, but if they can't earn enough money to pay for the membership maybe they don't have (shouldn't have) the time to be playing games.

I know when Polls were release someone asked for an Other option.
In other words the person who sets the Poll could tick a box and an extra choice box would be added with choices, which when a person ticks, another box would open so they could add there suggestion.
Well that's how the ones i know have work.
Any thought on having one ?

coan.net: That would be the best solution. MadMonkey's sugestion would be acceptable if Fencer refuses to do the bye system though. It realy is a problem especcially with trying to make tourneys for all games. some games like backgamon, and chess are very popular and you may get 128 people others though you may only get 7. There is no reason that both should not run if max was set to 128 and min to 4

Sujet: Re:
rod03801: What I meant was the byes are not counted - like you put an imaginary "fake" person in that spot to "play", and automatically lose to let the player move on to the next round. (Where the fake player's games that are automatically lost are not counted as a win/lose or anything - just there long enough to get the person into the next round.) - kind of a cheating way to program in byes into the tournament programming.

That is all that is needed, all empty spaces are replaced by an "fake" player, that does exist

How simple is that

coan.net: "All games are "not counted" and "not rated" - that way the system will move the players on to the next round."

Unless I'm misunderstanding, wouldn't that mean the whole tourney would have to be not counted and not rated? I imagine most people wouldn't want to be a part of that.

Hmm.. actually tournaments can't be not counted and not rated, can they?

Maybe I'm just confused.

6. Juin 2008, 19:12:30
coan.net
I think byes would be the best solution (over kicking people out of a tournament)

When the deadline hits, the system should:

1. First lower the number of spaces to the lowest possible - so if it was setup as a 32 player tournament, but only 14 players joined - automaticly switch to the 16 player tournament.

2. Then randomly (or I think some would say highest ranked?) pick 2 people to get the automatic byes into the next round.

I think for Fencer, just needs to image a "fake" user called bye who will be inserted into every empty space. This "fake" user automatically "loses" the game which allows the next person to move on. All games are "not counted" and "not rated" - that way the system will move the players on to the next round.

As we cannot have byes(but all still want them) in Elimination Tournaments, would it be possible that Brainking could keep track of people in the order they registered for a Tournament

Then a lot more Elimination Tournaments could actually start, rather than letting players down.

e.g. 8 player one, only 5 enter, the first 4 to sign would play once deadline reached OR 32 player and only 23 enter, first 16 play, and so on for all Elimination Tournaments.

Would save so many being deleted at least AND players may sign up faster

Just trying to find a way round a crazy problem, so easy to have byes and keep EVERYONE happy

2 request in 1 today
I just answered a Poll, and thought to myself, it would be nice to comment on this, so how about each Poll having its own Discussion Board like Tournaments.
Then maybe also a second Tab on the Polls link so we could have a Main Poll Discussion Board

Couple of very small things as it is the weekend and Fencers rest time
When Tournaments are running we have a use of there own Discussion Board, which are very under used.
1. Could these be avaliable right from when the Tournament is created please
Be handy for people to ask for games to be added, ask for help or just talk about games they need help in.
2. I like to create Practice Tournaments (that are UNRATED) for Madhouse players to get help in those games they need it. As said, these are UNRATED so no BKR's are NOT effected for either those learning or teaching. Could there be a way these games could stand out in our games when we are playing them, maybe a  bright GREEN message at top left of game screen beside the game type just saying Unrated or Practice

An extension for Game Editors.

I play many games like Mancala (against great player ljubisa popovic) trying to find possible ways from certain positions. Comes in very handy to learn. The thing is most game between good players, nearly always start out the same first 6 to 8 moves, like in other games such as Cheversi & Chess. It is always good to go over a game to see mistakes made.

So Monkey thought...........

How about a new option, to set a game from any position, against a player of your choice and play from that point. (obviously a Not counted game so nothing is effected).

I think this would be great for going back over games played, or trying new end games in Chess & Cheversi etc....

A must addition for BrainKing

*Now Monkey be quiet for the weekend lol*
