I think one other thing that a lot of people would like to know is, Is there a limit as to how many times a person can do this in a year. Would the extreme situation of a person buying another year's membership every other month be allowed? (Of course one would have to question that person's motives as to being on a turn based game site) Sounds extreme, and crazy, but there are people who have come pretty close to doing that. Very unfair to their opponents. (And everyone else who happens to be in the same tournaments as them)
"GERRY": This is probably happening very rarely if at all. The basic problem is what to do about people whose pleasure is to play each move in each game 5 minutes before the timeout expires. The answer is nothing, nothing can be done because the rules are respected. Too bad. it's a tough world.
"GERRY": we all know who is being spoken about and he seems to have a charmed life and it makes one wonder is it because he DOES buy another years membership every other month?
"GERRY": Well, I personally don't suggest than anything be done about people who play slowly and take all their allotted time. It is the nature of turn based game sites. I am sure there is not a turn based game site where this issue does not come up. It is the nature of the beast. People who are that bothered by it, should probably only play at Live, real time game sites.
But, beyond that, there are people who have come up with some pretty clever suggestions on ways to help people who are concerned about it, avoid playing those people. I don't recall Fencer ever saying much about these suggestions, so I'm not sure he would do any of them.
rod03801: I think we all know who we are talking about here, and i think we should give him a break. It really is'nt any of our business what a young boy spends his pocket money on.If holding up an internet tournament makes him happy,so be it.He'll grow out of it one day i'm sure.
Bernice: So are you saying this is'nt the behaviour of a small child? That it's the actions of a rational adult?I find this very hard to believe.Still,we live and learn.
Hrqls: Surely the easy way is when vacation days are set at the start of the year, that is ALL you get for that year. If you add more membership, then next to this years vacation days have a box or brackets and in there the amount of vacation days you have already for next year, the year after etc.. etc..
In other words, whatever is the set amount for the year that is ALL you get for that year. Any other added is put to one side.
This would make that reason or people doing it pointless, the one we are talking about, just to get more days. Most of us buy membership when ours is either running out, to help others or just because we can afford it at the time, nothing to doing with more vacation days.
This could effect Fencers income though, as those who do it for the vacation reason may not bother.
So is this catch 22 I hope not, common sense should prevail.
MadMonkey: that would be my solution as well but with the same side thoughts as you have
maybe allow someone to have a maximum twice his allowed amount per year by buying a new membership (like it is now, but then max twice a single membership)
Carl: It isn't about how someone spend their money. I agree with you that's no one's business. I am saying that we should have a limit on the number of vacation days anyone can have/use during a calendar year. Not just this one player, but everyone. My personal preference is you get your 35 at the beginning of the year, and when they are gone, they are gone. No more. If you can't manage 35 vacation days per year, then play fewer games. If you choose to play that many games, and you run out of vacation games, too bad. That's the way it goes.
