Do you miss something on BrainKing.com and would you like to see it here? Post your request into this board! If there is a more specific board for the request, (i.e. game rule changes etc) then it should be posted and discussed on that specific board.
okay - trying to skin out some core again, to pick up BBW's suggestion,
regardless of how the acceptance of obligatory games for top-players will
develop, private games could offer an option to a challenger, to switch off
ratings for certain games, pleasing people out for the sheer fun ... ~*~ :)
At the gamesite Gameknot (just for chess), there are leagues, with promotions and demotions. League players must accept challenges when they drop below 10 current games; the system works well. If you don't want a high-rated player to challenge you, then you go out and challenge someone with a rating close to your own.
Tony, these are on your profile, please dont ask for them on the main page... I have so many on my profile I wouldn't have room for the games if they appeared on the main page!!
Harley, what I mean are those tourneys I've signed up for and they are still to be started. I need to know how many games I'm letting myself in for. As far as I can see, they don't show separately on my profile.
In reversi, when you can't play a move, you have to make a pass move. Isn't it possible to skip that? It would be nice to play multiple moves in a row when the opponent can't play anyway - saves time and moves.
Fencer, would it be possible to impliment chinese chess/xiangqi here? You have some really good variations of chess on this site already but I believe Chinese Chess would also be popular; would be great if you could put that on your TODO list.
Thanks for providing us with this wonderful site and all the hard work you put in day in and day out!
Fencer...don't know if anyone else has requested something like this before...I am getting some requests for games from Czech players and want to be able to say good luck or thank you...is it possible to have a basic dictionary so I can communicate a bit or can you suggest a website that has Czech dictionary or conversion???
(1) Discussion boards based on threads would be more readable that the present system.
(2) Shogi would be nice.
(3) Reversi could be more customizable. For experienced players non-automatic passes are a nuisance. If you want to keep the game beginner-friendly and also serve experienced players, you could make automatic passes optional, so that when starting a game you could decide which alternative to use.
1) BrainKing.com is mostly a site to play games, that's why I didn't spend much time implementing the discussion boards. Maybe later.
2) Cool :-) But I've never heard about it. Where can I find more info?
3) No. I am open to any discussion except this one. Ask Kevin ;-)
a freeware proggy including variants ...
http://www.netspace.net.au/~trout/
but I have to warn you - won't be easy to implement ...
I could figure, as the pieces change their 'meanings'/power
when crossing certain lines ... the game is a bit static,
compared to the chinese chess but worth a look ... :) ~*~
I would suggest a new section to be listed under the "Friends on-line", "Favourite boards" and "Felloships" sections... I would call it "Favourite Games" or something like that...
The idea is that I like to play Atomic Chess, for instance... I may not want to start a bunch of new games and wait for people to accept them, but I might want to play other people who may create new games themselves...
Instead of checking "Waiting games" section all the time to see what is there, it would be nice to see them listed automatically under the "Favourite Games" section when they get created and I could choose to immediately accept them or not.
MagisterLudi, how do you mean a board with threads? I like our boards how they are, they're easy to use and easy to read, theres the 'new!' sign so you can immediately see what hasn't been read by you. I'd hate to see these boards go the way of the 'Wiki Web' where nobody knows how to read anything, much less reply!!!
Yes, many people have suggested this automatic passing in reversi, and every time the same reply - Fencer doesn't want to implement this. It does slow the play down, but not considerably - passes occur quite infrequently especially against evenly matched players. And to beginning players, having the board completely different could be unexpected and confusing.
Messages grouped by thread means one could click on "previous message in thread" and "next message in thread" and under each message, it would have a liunk to the replies to that specific message. This is how it works at IYT. ALso, at DSG, there is a alightly different system that is also effective. Each new thread is listed on a list of topics, and replies to that thread are found by clicking on the main thread.
Iti s hard to explain exactly. CHeck out www.pente.org to see what I mean. BOth ways are useful.
Oh no, I much prefer this type of board. those threads are easy to miss subjects and I doubt I'd bother going through different threads like that. What a pain they are!! And time consuming! I'm here to play games, I like to browse the boards when theres no games going on... but those 'threads' are for serious chat board users.. not just gamers passing their time and finding out useful stuff! This seems to be a far easier way of discussing things, or is it just me being old fashioned?!
I personally do not like how the discussion boards are set up because it is hard to know what messages someone is repling to (Except if they are good about doing something like: Reply to Fencer: ...).
But I would rather see Fencer's time developing new games like Battleboats (which hopefully will come soon) then to see his time improving the discussion board. (Maybe something to look at once he runs out of other things to do...)
I guess its each to their own in this case BBW! I'm used to this type of board now, I guess you're more used to threads.
I just hope Fencer is never so short of things to do he has to change these boards! LOL! :o)
Ok I see a lot of whining about top players not accepting games.
I would like to suggest a ladder system for members only, where players can challenge a higher rated player, subject to certain guidelines of course (ie. must be 5 day moves, may only challenge once per week). I have played in several different leagues at Cases leagues..www.igl.net, where top 20 ladder players must defend their position every week, (this may be to short a time for a dailymove site) they must also play a certain amount of games outside of the top 20 to retain their status, tournament games are included in these numbers. GT also offers something basic along these lines in its club format, where a lower rated player may challenge a higher rated, only 1 challenge per player is allowed at one time, it has its faults but could be the basis for a working ladder system here.

It would be easy to set up a cases league for this site however it does mean accessing another site for stats and to enter losses which some people may find a pain in the butt.
are there any plans to add go, or 13x13 go? a reason for asking is that a site that has a number of go players has a problem with miscoring games and you probably would attract a fair number of players.
As for how the Discussion board is setup on IYT, I also do not like that much.
If I was to set up a discussion board, the only example on a game site that I can think of is LittleGolem.net - that is you see just see all the subjects - and how many replies are in the subject. Once you click on the message thread that you want to read - ALL messages in the thread are displayed. That way if you want to read about a certain topic, you can - and if you want to not read about a topic, you don't have to!
But again, I would rather see new games fixed then have the time spent on the discusion board.... this is a game site, not a chat site anyway... :-)
The message boards at DSG (www.pente.org) are like this also (the way they are on little golem.net as described by Big Bad Wolf). It works fairly well.
Is there a way to send a message to all of your friends that are online, in one message. Without having to send each and every one the same massage. For example there have been times when I had to leave for a little bit. And I try to be polite and let them know. And maybe give them an idea of when I'll be back.
Fencer I think your site is the best because it has the most games and it isn't slow poke like itsyourturn.
No, lwmc, theres no way to do that yet. Its been suggested before and hopefully it wont be too long before we can send messages to multiple people, but for now its good old cut and paste!
Hey Tony, have you seen the tournament options on our profiles? Fencer does it again!! Nice one, that makes things loads easier.. I hadn't realised I've signed for so many tourneys that are yet to start!!
Seen the posting about chinese chess/xiangqi, any chance that game might be coming here? Hate to add to your list of requests but just curious as I used to like playing this. Thanks
TTjazzberry : Everythink is about time , Fencer is doing everythink alone - i mean programing .
And his priority is now working on battleboats . Its me opinion :)
Agreed Maxxina, I dont know how he does so much as it is, amazing really. My posting was more of an an inquiry as to whether chinese chess/xiangqi was in his plans, rather than asking him to create yet another game for us. If not, there are still a wide variety of games to enjoy on here, probably more than anywhere else, I think its great.
