Tutagil: For all it takes you have my support. The bug in the rules has been here for years, and for years Fencer has promised it would be corrected. It is a weird thing, since the Turkish community is such a strong one on this site, that Fencer keeps making such promises and doesn't actually do anything. I still remember when there were similar bugs on the Check Checkers implementation and the Czech community kept complaining about it. It was a community much stronger then than it is now (proportionally to the others) and it still took him a while to fix it. Sadly he missed the opportunity to fix it for other checkers games, even though it was already know and had been pointed out at the time.
I have decided to post my comment here and not at the Turkish forum as suggested for two reasons: 1) I don't know how to speak or write Turk. So it doesn't seem right for me to post in that board. 2) This is a "Board for everybody who is interested in BrainKing itself... and future" (like all the Brainking.xx boards), and I feel I must voice my reason on this, since the way Fencer sometimes prioritizes development affects all of us as players. "This is a game site, first of all", so we're told often, so I'd like to see game related bugs have a higher priority sometimes than messages or discussion boards related issues, for instance.
Fencer (and mods): Don't take me wrong, I'm not trying to start a flame war against you, but I'm on the side of the Turkish community in that this bug in the rules has been around for far too long... especially since the game is called Turkish Checkers (which is a name associated with a very well defined set of rules) and should therefore follow its rules more accurately - and the capturing rules are an important set of the gam rules in all checkers variants.
pauloaguia: Seems like somebody removed or hidden the message I was replying to. For those that didn't have time to read it it was a request to fix the bug in the Turkish rules implementation. Just clarifying it so that my message doesn't look so awakward, looking like it's coming out of nowhere.
pauloaguia: Actually, there is no "bug" in the game. It is just one particular rule which is not enforced but the players must know about the maximum capture rules and do it. If experiences players play Turkish Checkers (and I think that the majority of Turkish users know their game), they simply do the correct move, although the system would allow them to do another move as well. The only problem can happen when a good player plays which an unexperienced one who does not know the rules. This will be addressed. And since BrainKing's background is not only about the games and there are many other things which must be done too (and some of them always have a higher priority), this issue will be solved when there is a time for that. No further complaints can make it faster. Just to make sure that nobody misunderstands me - I know that there is a small problem with Turkish Checkers and I plan to fix it. But BrainKing is not only about Turkish Checkers and I reserve a right to set the priorities.
Fencer: Unexperienced players should learn how to play the game as accurately as possible. Making a copmparison with chess, it's like being able to castle after having moved your king or by crossing a square that is atacked by an enemy piece - experienced players wouldn't do it, but unexperienced ones might,m because they still don't know the rules very well.
Anyway, and I'm sure it would settle it for everybody - since you just admited that taking advantage of the "unenforced rule" is not the correct move, while it is not fixed, and if someone plays such a move against me, what can I do? It seems to me all I can do is not play the game, which is a shame...
Also I aggree that it is your right to set the priorities as you see fit, but it's also our right to try and make you set them more according to our likings . Here's another example to make you think: Hasami Shogi is a lot less played than Turkish Checkers. Yet it's rules were changed some time ago to make it more playable. The change was also in the line of "enforcing a new rule". Yet, even with the change, the game is still far less popular than Turkish Checkers...
And since I'm not trying to stir anything, I've rest my case (for now) and let others do the speaking on this subject from now on... You're still doing a great job on this site, no matter what, Fencer
Fencer: Hi Fencer. When a player has two possibilities to capture a pawn, with a pawn and with a king at the same time, the program forces to capture with the king. Players (experienced or not) has no chance to select to capture with the pawn. This is a bug. To clarify all the rules of Turkish Checkers, we have prepared and submitted an article about Turkish Checkers in Brainrook site with my user. Would you please confirm to publish it, so everyone can access and read whole rules of the game. There are many board bitmaps displaying related rules examples. When you will find time to fix these items, it is better to check and test the implementation of the rules with this document. We also understand that your work load is heavy with this nice sites support issues. Therefore, if it is within the principles, we are also ready to help to work with your team to fix, implement and test these rules, even at the programming level.
Hrqls: Atila had done it a long time ago. No answers, there (checkers variants 8x8, the right place). In checkers board it's no usefull too. Well... anyway, this is not the right place for the discussion, indeed. It would take us for a long conversation that always have been avoided for Fencer and global mod's, in brainking...
