im still at a loss trying to understand how having red numbers next to a list that already shows up on your page makes it longer to load

TarantinoFan: Within that little red number is a lot of code. Particularily the website link to whatever game you have with each friend. There is also some html code to change the color of the font to red... so those things together may be causing a few extra moments of delay...

The thing to do to get rid of that little delay is to make all your friends not friends. You could also stay on top of all of your games, meaning less code pops up that you have to wait to load, and the final option is to nicely ask Fencer for a way to eliminate those individual things on the right side.... which would be a really nice feature... or a way to reorganize the side features to the way each individual person wants it organized... that would also be nice! I don't think it is a neccessity, but those are things that can always be done to give the individual more control of there main page... sort of like facebook! ...you can make it look like however you want! ...within reason of course.

rednaz23: Well I just counted while waiting for this page to load and I counted a full 6 seconds for that side to load. (It didn't need to load any red numbers but I do have 5 friends online at the moment.

It is frustrating because you can't start to work with the page until that column has loaded because it kicks the page sideways. Several times I have gotten ahead of the load and then it kicked on me and I clicked the wrong thing and had to go back and re-do what I was intending as well as fix the wrong thing I clicked! I have put the suggestion in this board but I will add a formal request in the Features board.

TarantinoFan: hmmm.... this sounds like a problem for the computers board! I am not sure what it is, but someone in that DB might be able to help you, for it sounds like a software problem. I don't have that problem at all... You must be using firefox huh?

Czuch: IE7 has a rendering mechanism that waits for the whole page to load before drawing it.
Previous IE versions and most other browsers start rendering the page as soon as it is downloaded. So, they start by rendering the left column, then make space for the central part and finally shrink the whole page to make space for the right column. This is why it seems like the page is jumping from side to side until it is completelly downloaded .
Most browsers try to display the page as soon as possible to give the impression that they load pages faster. Most of the time there is no problem with that. Except in cases like BK where the layout of the page can't be accuratly determined until close to the end of the page, because of that right column.

Opera does have a setting to only start rendering the page after a few seconds. Not sure if Firefox has anything similar. Otherwise, if it really is such a big deal, seems like IE7 might be a good bet for you.

Another option would be to convince Fencer to put the code of the right column before the central part of the page. Stylesheets should help make sure that the whole thing falls into place properly... unless, of course, someone has them disabled
