A famous art collector is walking through the city when he notices a mangy cat lapping milk from a saucer in the doorway of a store and he does a double take. He recognizes that the saucer is extremely old and very valuable, so he walks casually into the store and offers to buy the cat for two dollars.
The storeowner replies "I'm sorry, but the cat isn't for sale.
The collector says, "Please, I need a hungry cat around the house to catch mice. I'll pay you twenty dollars for that cat."
And the owner says "Sold," and hands over the cat.
The collector continues, "Hey, for the twenty bucks I wonder if you could throw in that old saucer. The cat's used to it and it'll save me from having to get a dish."
And the owner says, "Sorry buddy, but that's my lucky saucer. So far this week I've sold sixty-eight cats."
I had a dog that thought she was the top dog from the day I brought her home as a pup. It didn't occur to me that she was asserting herself as the alpha until one day when she went after the two neighbor's dogs (they were much bigger than she) and they took her down by her neck. All my commands were ignored as my dog raced to defend her territority.
From then on I asserted myself over her. Eventually my "STOP" would stop her dead in her tracks.
I had to learn gentle training methods because when I was close to her and was disciplining her, she'd get so excited that she'd wag her tail and pee.....and spray us all. lol
Matarilevich: I don't know if this will make much sense, but I had a pet rat named Ann. I taught kindergarten at the time and the kids loved playing with her. She's sit on my shoulder and never messed when we held her. She was the first pet rat I'd ever had. I had many other pet rats after she died but not one could replace her. There was something special about her. It's been many years since she died and I still think of her. Perhaps it was special because she was our class pet too. But she was so loving. I can't believe I'm saying that about a rat but it's true. I'm saddened for you and your loss. I wish our pets could live longer. Take Care. ;)
mybirthdaysoon: I got my first dog when I was about six. Have had one ever since. Probably won't get another but would like one. It's hard losing a pet and funny but I still miss her.
anastasia: Yep. Casey was special. A kindergartener brought in a dog for show and tell and when I found out there was one pup in that litter, I went there after school and picked her up. She was very nervous as a pup and when I'd scold her for anything, her tail went wagging wildly and she'd pee sending a spray in all directions. We learned very quickly never to raise our voice or we'd get a pee shower! Seriously! So she grew up with us being very calm even when she was "naughty." lol She was very well housebroken except for a few times. Mostly she bugged me all the time to rub her belly. And if I stopped rubbing, she'd bark at me until I started again. lol She was always at my feet. I had to prove to her I was the Alpha male and she eventually accepted that. But at first, she tried to be the Alpha. Hmmm, maybe we both were :)
mybirthdaysoon: Cats do have special qualities. I'm probably partical to dogs. I had a dog for 15 years or so and she was a good dog. She died a few years ago in my arms. I felt so bad. It was a Sunday and I called the vet to bring her in. She died minutes later. We had just gotten home from church and she had thrown up blood. When she saw me, her tail started waggin. Even in pain she was glad to see me. I guess it was just her time to go.
mybirthdaysoon: It's very cold out and when it gets cold our neighbor's cats want to come in the house at night. they are outside cats. We have little beds for them. ;) We feed them too. And if they come in and I'm reading, I get the cat butt in the face. Why do cats snuggle like that? lol
"Snoopy": Yeah. But he/she is cute with those little glasses. My favorite is the little puppy that tries to get out of the bed to the dish bowl and does a total flip over! lol So cute.
These are pretty funny. I couldn't find where the original was hosted so I posted it on my site. It will come down in a week or so. Take a peek before then ;)
anastasia: I agree. Our neighbor has lots of cats. Half of them think they live here. We feed them and when it gets too cold, we give them a warm place to sleep. We have three little shelters for them and when it gets too cold we let them in for the night. ;) The neighbor has dogs and goats too! The dogs come over for treats in the summer. I always keep a good supply on hand :)
anastasia: My dog of 15 years died a few years ago in my arms. Sad day. Came home from church and she had thrown up blood. Called the vet and we were trying to get her in the car. She didn't make it. She was part Spitz and part Blue Healer We have one left. A yorkie. The wife's dog. She mostly ignores me. The dog I mean, not the wife ;)
Gemina: I agree with your feelings too but you can't literally mean it. If someone actually did the "eye for eye" thing in this situation, they would be worse than those that club the seals.
