You know what's really funny about this presidential race? The difference between democrats and republicans is not only ideological, it's also psychological.
If Obama was a republican and Romney a democrat, the democrats would want to talk about Obamas record. And the republicans would have to back off, because they would know what a screw up their Republican president Obama has been. The only avenue for republicans to go down would be to make personal attacks against Democratic candidate Mitt Romney. LOL
Iamon lyme: Notice how the left wing loons are all doing the lemming dance when it comes to Ayn Rand and Paul Ryan? It's so funny. But wait, I can't find anything where they went on and on about Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, and Rashid Khalidi. Conservatives did, but the left stayed silent. And likely few even know anything about Frank Marshall Davis. He's perhaps the most important person in Obama's life. Davis was a pro-Russia, pro-Red China, card carrying communist and Obama considered him his mentor.
Artful Dodger: I know how strange this sounds, but I believe they don't see the hypocrisy because they can't see it.
My point about the psychological difference is that more democrats place emphasis on party identity than do republicans. It's because of this that they are unwilling (or maybe unable) to regulate themselves. One clear evidence of this is that republicans will call phonies in their own party rinos (republican in name only). When has anyone ever seen a democrat criticise one of their own by calling them a 'dino'?
And do you know why? Because being a democrat is all it takes. There is no "in name only". If you support a democratic candidate and vote for him/her, you are a bona fide democrat.
The 'what if Obama was a republican and Romney a democrat' senario is more likely to confuse democrats than republicans, because more republicans than democrats will put a higher value on ideology than on party identity.
Iamon lyme: Exactly. Debbie Blabbermouth Shultz is a classic example. She was on the news bashing Ryan's idea for Medicare and claiming that he was shredding it. Truth was that his bill gave seniors choices. They could keep medicare as is or they could opt into medical insurance that equals what all Federal employees enjoy. Even though this is a fact and was proven to her, she still stayed on her talking points. Even more odd, she didn't deny what the news host was saying, she actually affirmed it! However she affirmed it with a "Yes but......." She's a complete idiot.
