Lamby said: yes absolutely you can choose to use the cloak option, I totally agree that's up to you entirely, but if you do then don't moan that you can't see what others are doing! They can't see you, you then can't see them....fairs fair!!! :o)
i see what you're saying - i just wonder about people who don't *want* to be cloaked to somebody just because that somebody is cloaked. the auto-cloaking seems to me to take away an aspect of the user's control over their appearance, and i think such things should always be the user's choice.
but yes, this is for discussion elsewhere. and this will likely be my last post on the subject anyway, because i really don't think it's a very interesting topic of discussion. :D
grenv: on the one hour limit i think there will be alot of time outs on the games that require alot of moves , unless a group of people just play untill the game is finished , on my days off this could suit me ....as long as i dont need any sleep lol
grenv: It wasn't meant as a problem, but as a fun way to play. :) Speed Chess on a turn based site with multiple games going. Now that's got to be entertaining. If such a thing comes about on this site, I would hope that both players could agree to pause the game if they wanted to. One player can always go the vacation route in any case.
Czuch Chuckers: no game should time out on that day. Not necessarilly in the next 24 hours. If autovacation only kicks in in a game at 23:00, a game at 01:00, next day will still time out (or trigger another auto vacation day).
Czuch Chuckers: the way it was before (with time limist of 1 day or more) .. was that if you timed out on a day (and you had automatic vacation on) then that day was turned into a vacation day and no other game would time out on that very same day ... this way if a game would time out at 3:00 a.m. it would turn that day into a vacation day .. and a game which would time out at 22:30 that same day wouldnt time out either, and neither would it cost an extra vacation day as this day was already set to be a vacation day
at least thats how i thought it worked
in that case .. case 2 of my previous post would be the one thats correct ?
grenv: It could get crazy if a person got themselves in a few of these games at the same time.
I was thinking that so many moves per hour would be workable. I don't see anything wrong with 3 minutes per move per se, but I'd rather have it as 20 moves per hour. This way you could move fast a few turns and then use the restroom or look at a different game. 5 moves per hour would be a pretty good pace if you had four or five games of similar timing going at once. It'd make for a fast tournament too.
Hrqls: The way I read it you are going to lose a whole day for each hour turn you miss. The auto vacation is not going to give you 24 hours it is only going to help you once for each incident. Thats why I suggest we get 720 hours of vacation instead of 30 days.
pauloaguia: Um, reloading the page takes a few seconds. Surely a 3 minute game would be aa good "Lightning version".
Anyway, the 2 hours max time would be good, working just like a real chess clock, but without the silly adding time when you move. I'm ok with adding 30 minutes per 40 moves or something.
Fencer,
Would tell to shogi afficionados where you are in your programming? :-).
Be sure I will not bother you, I know you are very busy. But I am just so impatient ;-).
Best regards,
Paul.
PS: I am probably the worst living shogi player though for some unknown reasons I am really addicted about shogi.
I don't think one hour is a good idea. Much better would be 2 hours for the whole game or something like that. If the game length is unknown then I might fall asleep before the game is over.
Another reason why 3 minute limits are probably better.
Czuch Chuckers: when the game would timeout .. but its a vacation day .. then it wont time out .. it can only time out on the next day which is not a vacation day ...
a question which arises (for me) though is .. supposed a 1 hour game would time out on 22:30 .. i have auto vacation on .... so this day would become a vacation day .. and the game wont time out ... but! .. does it try to time out again on 0:30 on the next day .. or does it try to time out at 22:30 for the first time again on the next day
in the first case i will lose 2 vacation days .. even when i would be online at 9:00 a.m. the next day and make my move .. in the second case i would only lose 1 vacation day as i made my move before 22:30 the next day
BIG BAD WOLF: The way I read it, you will lose a whole vacation day for every hour that you miss. Maybe we could have it changed from vacation days to vacation hours instead?
In regards to my other queery.... I know those options exist, but it would be nice to browse the games waiting list or tournaments list and only see games that we are willing to participate in. Sop in my example I would not se any games listed that use the standard weekend days only :)
BIG BAD WOLF: If that hour is up, and vacation day is set - does the vacation day add just 1 hour or a full 24 hour day to the game? If it's just an hour, if for some reason they have to leave quickly, they could easly go through a lot of vacation days in just a few hours.
Considering you don't get another 7 days if your time is up in a tournament with a 7 day time limit when you use auto-vacation, I'd be surprised if you only get another hour if the time limit is set to 1 hour.
Czuch Chuckers: Currently for tournaments, there is a green & red dot next to tournaments with special time-out features. I also suggest that if a tournament is less then 24 hours, it should be highlighed or something - I can see many accedently signing up for a 2 hour tournament when the mean to sign up for a 2 day tournament.
Luke Skywalker: I think Summertop's questions (along with mine) is lets say a game has an hour time limit. If that hour is up, and vacation day is set - does the vacation day add just 1 hour or a full 24 hour day to the game? If it's just an hour, if for some reason they have to leave quickly, they could easly go through a lot of vacation days in just a few hours.
With the new time features available, I have a couple of ideas..... Maybe an option we could check so we dont accidently play in certain time limit games?
Example: My weekends are on mondays and tuesdays. I dont want to play in any games where only the normal saturday/sunday weekend is allowed. Maybe I could have an option that wont let me accept any games like this? Or an option where I dont even see any of the games or tournaments which are set up this way?
When was the time per move dropped down to hours? It's cool, you can specify one hour per move. Hmmm...I wonder how autovacation works with this feature.
OK...my request: Since the time per move id diminishing, maybe we could have a section for "Real-time" games.
lukulus: Why do you think with this rule you won't have a BKR in crazy screen chess?
If I with a BKR of 2275 in chess play a game of Crazy screen chess with Mely whose BKR in chess is 2700, I won't have the slightest chance of winning even if my position at the start is a lot better than his.
I think the main point in playing Crazy screen chess and Screen chess is the position not your chess skill. If you want to test your chess skills, you can simply play chess or one of the variants that doesn't depend on the start position that much.
Besides, that was just an idea. may not be a god one of course.
I'd like to see what others think as well. Thanks for your reply and letting me know about what you think about my oppinion.
reza: I think its not good idea. I am not bad in chess too, but I have not BKR in Crazy. In case this rule will be active, my chance to make BKR in this kind of chess wont be big.
Chess skill has influence on all chess-like games with exception of Maharadja chess.
As I was playing one of my games of crazy screen chess, I came to this idea that my opponent has no chance against me despite the fact that his start position is a lot better than mine.
The reason is that I am much better than he is, in chess itself. I can simply turn the advantage to me.
I think when defining a game of crazy screen chess or screen chess, players should have the ability of defining a BKR range of chess too.
I mean the interesting and should-be-important part of games like crazy screen chess and screen chess is the start position and the players' ability of setting a good position up and this shouldn't be that much affected by their ability of playing chess.
So I think here's how we should be able to define these sorts of games:
Players of a BKR range of 1500 till 2000 in Crazy screen chess itself and for example 1500 up to 1900 in chess, depending on how well we can play chess.
Ryan from Ohio: Will you play scrabble in Czech? I am worry there will be problems with license. I remember problems on IYT with scrabbl. They made scrabble-like game.
Fencer: after you finish setting up the 'cloak mode' discussion group (LOL) is there anyway that the fellowships could have a short description of their 'themes' next to them?
Keep up the good work! definitely the best game site in the world!!!!!!!
Cheers
Alison
