Crony Capitalism: More Obama Friends Get Massive "Stimulus" Funds

Chicago Energy Behemoth Scored $200 Million in Stimulus Funds:

Exelon’s top executives were early and frequent supporters of Mr. Obama as he rose from the Illinois State Senate to the White House. John W. Rogers Jr., a friend of the president’s and one of his top fund-raisers, is an Exelon board member. David Axelrod, Mr. Obama’s longtime political strategist, once worked as an Exelon consultant, and Rahm Emanuel, the Chicago mayor and Mr. Obama’s former chief of staff, helped create the company through a corporate merger in 2000 while working as an investment banker....

Exelon, which provides power to more than 6.6 million customers in at least 16 states and the District of Columbia, was chosen as one of only six electric utilities nationwide for the maximum $200 million stimulus grant from the Energy Department. And when the Treasury Department granted loans for renewable energy projects, Exelon landed a commitment for up to $646 million allowing it, on extremely generous financial terms, to finance one of the world’s largest photovoltaic solar projects.

Like I've been saying, it's good to know the King.

I mean.. if the innocent baby is in their minds that important.. Then why is Vietnam still contaminated by Agent Orange?

No marches demanding the US government clean up that mess are there by Conservatives are there!?!!

If Church and state are separate, then using the Bible as a moral basis is unconstitutional imo.

The real costs of renewable energy are coming
out—both in dollars and daily impacts. After years of hearing about
“free” energy from the sun and wind, people are discovering that they’ve

Artful Dodger: Most Republicans want Akin to drop out of the race, and today I've learned that most Democrats want Akin to stay in the race... no big surprise there. I could have told the pollsters that before they started their polling.

I agree with Akin when he says it makes no sense to punish the child for what the rapist did, but he goofed when starting to say something else without explaining what he meant by it... he realized too late that it could used by the left, so he quickly brushed it off. He didn't just make one mistake, he made two.

By not explaining what he meant, he left the door wide open for his opponents to fill in the gap with obvious lies. On top of that, what I believe he was starting to say is only a minor factoid, and is so insignificant that it makes no sense for him to bring it up. Even if he did explain what he meant it wouldn't have helped him, because the liberals aren't looking for facts and reasons, they are looking for dirt. Or anything they can use as dirt. Look at the dirt (V) is flinging, and he probably does know that it's the Democrats and not the Republicans who want him to stay in the race.

This media attack is laughable... if the republicans are calling for him to step down and the democrats want him to stay in the race, it can only mean that they want this to be front page news for as long as they can milk it.

Democrats have always claimed that they’re not “pro-abortion” but only “pro-choice.” Really? Consider this report:

“With an eye on Rep. Todd Akin’s ‘legitimate rape’ comments and the GOP’s mad dash away from the sinking Missouri Senate candidate, the Democrats are turning their upcoming presidential convention into a pro-choice assault on the Republicans with the help of major abortion supporters.

“Just as the Akin crisis was reaching a crescendo, the Democrats on Wednesday announced that three starlets of the pro-choice movement will be featured at the convention, an event that will now drive the liberal charge that the Republicans are anti-women.”

In the perverted logic of the pro-abortionists, if you are against killing pre-born babies, then you are by definition at war with women even though half of the abortions in the United States kill girl babies.

Entering a woman’s body with medical instruments used by a doctor who took an oath to save lives have become instruments of death in a savage attack on the sanctity of the womb. It’s a form of rape that women consent to because they’ve been told that it’s their duty to uphold the cause of women’s liberation.

For those of you too ignorant to understand these things do happen.

This whole Akin thing is being used by the Left as a political hammer. Paul Ryan said it best: "Rape is rape." If a woman doesn't consent, it's a rape. Period.

Akin used a poor choice of words but he may have made a legitimate point. Either way, he shouldn't have made it. But it's ONE Conservative's remarks. Ted Kennedy killed a woman. You on the Left gave that jerk a total pass on that one. Even the judge at the time called Kennedy a liar. Akin uses ONE WRONG WORD and you phony lefties fall all over yourselves trying to make something of it. Bill Clinton gets oral sex in the WH from a young intern and that's OK with you idiots. I don't know what he meant by using the word "legitimate" but all thinking people (found only on the Right) know that there is such a thing as a rape that never happened. Maybe that's what Akin was trying to say? Don't know. He shouldn't have said it as it's a stupid point either way. But in no way did he suggest that a woman may enjoy a rape. Only an idiot would think that.

He also continued to back-pedal from his comments last Sunday about "legitimate rape", accepting that the views he expressed were "medically wrong".

Although Tuesday was the final day for Mr Akin to withdraw from the race without a court order, he did not categorically rule out stepping aside at a later date. "I'm never going to say everything that could possibly happen," he told ABC. "I don't know the future." Mr Akin also confirmed that Republican vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan had urged him to end his campaign.

While Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has said he believes abortion should be allowed for rape victims, his running mate has previously taken a harder line.

Mr Ryan, a Wisconsin congressman, co-sponsored along with Mr Akin and other lawmakers a controversial bill that would ban federal funding for abortion with a rape-exception only in cases of "forcible rape".

On Wednesday, the Republican running mate was asked in an interview to define forcible rape. He told Pittsburgh television station KDKA: "Rape is rape and there's no splitting hairs over rape."

Democrats are trying to portray Mr Akin's comments on rape as symptomatic of a negative attitude towards women across the Republican party.

There has been renewed focus on a Republican convention platform, which resurfaces every election year, for a constitutional ban on abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest. It will be voted on next Monday at the party gala in Tampa, Florida.

So let me think... the National weather service wants this ammunition to defend itself if the global warming deniers threaten to attack one of their weather stations? No, that can't be right... it makes too much sense. There must be some nuttier reason.

And then there's the Dept of the Treasury. That's a no brainer. They are worried about the people who are obsessed with money... especially other peoples money. Actually, Obamas smartest move was picking Biden to be vice president. It took me less than 2 minutes to figure that one out, after learning who Obama picked for the VP position.

Not only does it insure that Obama looks like the smartest guy in the room (it helps for Reed and Pelosi to be there as well) but if something were to happen to Obama (like tripping when jogging up and down the stairs to and from Air Force One) everyone understands who would take over. So who wouldn't want to show up just make sure nothing bad happens to the president?

No, I think picking Biden was a smart move.

Here's the kicker though... Obama's own lawyer admitted it's a fake, but said it doesn't matter because the evidence (the document in question) CAN'T be used as evidence because.... are you ready for this? It can't be used as evidence because it's not a real document! That's right, because the birth certificate is a fake, it can't be used as evidence! Because it's NOT real! What does that mean? Does it mean if it WAS real it COULD be used as evidence? LOL to the tenth power!!!!!!

Okay then, the bionic woman is not real, just a fictional character. Darn it, I was hoping she was real. So now I need to say something equally significant... Gilligan's island was filmed in Hawaii, so they weren't lost. It was all a hoax to entice viewers to tune in.

Next point... Not everyone in academia is throwing their support to Obama. Big deal, not everyone supported him the first time around. Those in academia and other members of the 'intelligentsia' who didn't speak up before are speaking up now. Big freakin whoop, I didn't say much the first time around either. But Obama should keep in mind that union thugs aren't the only bad asses out there... you don't want to cross paths with a gang of enraged geeks, wielding sharpened no. 2 pencils and ready to draw blood... it's enough to make a union thug's blood run cold.

Obama must be freaking out about all this. Where's all the love and high fives he was getting the first time? It's as though they've all turned against him. Obama is the only one whose feet are firmly planted on the ground, it's everyone else who are being mean and fickle minded and pissy towards him... and for no reason!

On his blog this morning, Krugman took a break from his hiking vacation to call out the "Unethical Commentary":

There are multiple errors and misrepresentations in Niall Ferguson’s cover story in Newsweek — I guess they don’t do fact-checking — but this is the one that jumped out at me. Ferguson says: "The president pledged that health-care reform would not add a cent to the deficit. But the CBO and the Joint Committee on Taxation now estimate that the insurance-coverage provisions of the ACA will have a net cost of close to $1.2 trillion over the 2012–22 period."

Readers are no doubt meant to interpret this as saying that CBO found that the Act will increase the deficit. But anyone who actually read, or even skimmed, the CBO report (pdf) knows that it found that the ACA would reduce, not increase, the deficit — because the insurance subsidies were fully paid for.

Ferguson came back with a quibbling rebuttal: "But I very deliberately said 'the insurance coverage provisions of the ACA,' not 'the ACA.' There is a big difference." To which Joe Weisenthal of Business Insider scoffed, "So Ferguson's response was: Well, the spending/insurance portion of the Affordable Care Act did increase the deficit, and I was only referring to the spending side. I wasn't referring to the whole thing ... Niall Ferguson's defense is that he was being very obtuse and misleading."

Economist Brad DeLong is even harsher with regards to the ACA claim:

Fire his ass. Fire his ass from Newsweek, and the Daily Beast. Convene a committee at Harvard to examine whether he has the moral character to teach at a university. There is a limit, somewhere. And Ferguson has gone beyond it.

And that's just one minor point — it's only the very beginning. Ferguson's own Newsweek colleague Andrew Sullivan calls his "old and good friend" out for his "glaring omissions" and "sleight of hand." Sullivan promises, "More to come. The piece is sadly so ridden with errors and elisions and non-sequiturs it will require a few more posts."

At The Atlantic, and with the searing headline "As a Harvard Alum, I Apologize," James Fallows writes, "A tenured professor of history at my undergraduate alma mater has written a cover story for Daily Beast/Newsweek that is so careless and unconvincing that I wonder how he will presume to sit in judgment of the next set of student papers he has to grade."
