Nirvana: Hi Nirvana! Great to see you back here! BTW, I'm right now in my office, pretending to work but actually listening to "Baez sings Dylan". Wonderful! I'd forgotten what a voice she has!
for the support guys! Groucho- a PHD is a stretch, but I appreciate the thought. I just try to do my best, can't ask for any more than that.
And nivabef, my sentiments exactly. I do love and appreciate music. I'd go as far as to say I live and breathe it! Can't imagine a life without it! Makes the world go around and brings people together
WatfordFC: I don't know as much as some...I just love it. I've learned alot tho from this site....read, read, read and listen and enjoy- that's what it's all about! Like Toesty said a few posts back, it really does heal the soul. It soothes the savages beasts as well. Calms down my monster dogs anyways
Субъект: Re: Another blast from the past from an obscure but truely great band
Jim Dandy: I'd never heard of them. You got me! But, I fell in love, YET another time, with the lead guitarist. Loved his hands, and the way they carressed the guitar. Music is, in my experience pleasure on many levels. And, he wasn't a shabby player, either.
baddessi: Los Lonely Boys are going to be on some late-night TV show tonight, I think I saw. All we have to do now is figure out when that is, and which show.
Субъект: Re: Another blast from the past from an obscure but truely great band
TexasToest: This any help?
Los Lonely Boys on TV!
July 25: Jay Leno July 26: Jimmy Kimmel and Tavis Smiley Show July 27: Amazon Fishbowl /with Bill Maher July 28: Tavis Smiley Show (PBS) August 18: Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson
Субъект: Re: Another blast from the past from an obscure but truely great band
Jim Dandy: Thanks! That surely does help. Gee, they're making the rounds, aren't they? I guess I'd better get out there, and hear of some new people! Hahaha!
awesome & nivabeef- about the singing dogs, I believe you- my dogs sing too! Cool, huh?
And Toesty, it's not in 2 part harmony. It's in 3 part harmony. 3 of them ..one part shepherd, one part black lab, and one 110 toto mix of some kind!!! LOL
Nirvana- thanks for the listings. I love our Los Lonely Boys. I'll give them a listen on TV tonight for sure.
Jim Dandy...yeah, they are cool- check them out if you can get the chance..Part Santana, Part Stevie Ray, and part their complete own style..great riffs, great harmonies, alot of young energy and talent- I think we'll see some great things from these kids in the future...these 3 brothers Rock!!!
This video must have been recorded at our 4th of July celebration in Houston earlier this month, when they played here- I saw this show : ))) Oh ok, on TV, ok, but it was just a few minutes drive to park where they played..couldn't get there for the crowds. Awesome fireworks display after the show...the lighted up buildings in the background are downtown Houston-my home. Anyways, the old guy in the cowboy hat and white shirt is their proud Dad, Jesse, who's played in bands in Texas all his life. The band is his 3 sons who he taught to play. They asked him onstage to play Houston with them The clip shows alot of crowd, and not enough of the boys, and gets cut off at the end, but gives you a taste of these Texas boys I love so much..had to share. The drummer's name, btw, is Ringo....and yeah, he's named after who ya think
baddessi:One observation,I'm an old Deadhead and one of the joys I had was the moment Jerry went into a solo it always brought an instant smile to my face.I got a little of that same involuntary muscle twinge listening and watching that clip, thanks.
I need to slow down, and read the names more thoroughly. That was really helpful, and I think I'll catch them on Amazon. That's a neat feature they having going there. Thanks for all your help.
When you said Jessi, baddessi, my heart skipped a beat, because I wondered if papa was Jesse Lopez from the musical family that spawned Jesse and Trini Lopez. Jesse was a friend of mine at NTSU (Now U of NT), and he used to pick me up when it snowed in his T-Bird to drive me to the music building. It was a looooooong walk in the snow! But, I see that is not so.
I see the Lopez boys recently released a new CD with Art Greenhaw, one of the Light Crust Doughboys. Don't worry, the only reason I know Art is that his daddy owns the hardware store on the square here in Mesquite. Hahaha! They started an opry here, and there is still an opry house on the square. We have shows there from time to time. I also see that neither Jesse, nor his brother are as knock-dead gorgeous as they used to be. <img>
Jim Dandy: nothing invlountary there!!! BIG BIG Smiles Only a fellow deadhead would get this, but my buddy Matt and I could often jam on that song for well over an hour with just a couple of acoustic guitars...he'd take off on a solo and I'd strum along ,then we'd circle back around...and do it again..and again...and again.... loved the anime in that clip- thanks so much!!! : ))))
Tabla really fascinates me. Sitar too, but Tabla players seem to be born. This is a 16 year old kid, just practicing. I want to know how he moves his fingers so fast.
Jim Dandy: There is a clip of them on U Tune. I didn't put it up here, because somehow it sounded distorted on my system. It might be alright, but either way, you could check them out. I can suggest their album Tracking Buffalo Through the Bathtub, recorded in 1999. I've been meaning to download it for a long time. They bear watching as far as I'm concerned.
Jim Dandy: I should have responded yesterday, but you sent me off on a quest. I had to find out what FLAC files are, and how one plays them. I found it's site, very easy, just Google it, and I got the names and URLs for decoders. Then, to clarify my new-found knowledge, I had to check it out with my favorite geek. Well, you know how geeks are, and I'm still not sure. I've heard a lot about the decoders not working. Evidently, most of FLAC is free technology. WuHu!!! (Loved that!) - just like the old Internet.
But, FYI, if you like Big Wu. I have discovered the CD of theirs I like the most (mainstream stuff here) and that is Spring Reverb. They have the Dead sound, but their harmonies are sooooooo lovely on that CD. And, their album art? Gauguin-like - really fun to stare at.
TexasToest: I'm pretty simple when it comes to listening or watching to things online.I saw all those fancy shmancy download options and decided to just listen to the stream provided.I'm already having issues with my quicktime playback so I doubt I'll be entering the world of "FLAC" anytime soon Thanks for the tip on the cd to look for, album art seems to have been a very ignored pleasure since the demise of the LP
I have an idea,I hope its not a prob with anyone,I think we could ALL benefit from it,well here goes. --- I an a pro at visual multimedia, but I confess I am a newbie just getting into the audio end as far as how to download & burn to CD..music(mp3's or whatever) any tips on "how to" in this area, please post here to help me(and anyone who could benifit from this) --- ok now my idea: is to complile a list of songs to burn to CD in several subjects(thus several CDs) subjects: -love songs -thought provoking(social-political songs) -dance music --- anyone got any songs they want to suggest, please note the song and its "subject(add a new subject if needed)
nobleheart: Yes, they do. But, U.S. attorneys are also filing law suits against those who do not pay for their downloads. There are several legal sites where you can download music for a small fee. And, check the artists' sites. There are often free downloads there.
Love singer Lee dies aged 61 Arthur Lee, the singer and songwriter with the pioneering Sixties band Love, has died aged 61 after a lengthy battle with leukaemia.
The musician died on Thursday afternoon in hospital in Memphis.
Love's most famous album was the 1968 bestseller Forever Changes.
Lee, who is survived by his wife, Diane, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in February and received a rare umbilical cord blood transplant in May at Methodist University Hospital.
But a hospital spokeswoman said he never left the hospital after that.
He formed Love in Los Angeles in 1965 and the group released their self-titled debut album the next year under the newly-formed Elektra Records.
They released a total of three albums fusing rock, blues and psychedelia.
In the 1990s, Lee spent time in jail for illegal possession of a firearm.
But he made a successful comeback in 2002, touring the US and Europe with a new band line-up.

Nirvana: Talking of Arthur Lee, what happened to Alvin Lee (10 Years After)? Is he still around? Perhaps I'm 30 Years Too-late to ask this, but he was a fantastic lead guitarist.
