If anyone is interested in taking advantage of the Black Rook special (1/2 price if you find someone to share the cost with you) then please let me know. I may have another interested party. It's 150 Euro each which equals about 200 US dollars. That's about a five year membership and you get a lifetime! A number of people have already grabbed at this chance. It's a great offer if you've got the money and you are going to be at BK a while. ;)
Groucho: That's about a five year membership and you get a lifetime!
So if someone wants to really support Brainking it has to stay away from these black devils....! Since if i stay for example 7 years as a white Rook at Brainking i will pay 270 € while as a black Rook i will pay only 150 €. And it gets worse as years pass.....
Personally another and actually the decisive reason is the: "you will have a membership for a lifetime"! This brings me in front of the devastating inevitable and i hate to see so far in the future I prefer to see only 6 months ahead even if i also hate this..... 2 days ahead is enough!
Pythagoras: Well, you may be right but only from a long term point of view. For example, I need to purchase a new application server (or two to make a fail-safe cluster). The estimated price is, say, 3000 Euro. With 10 new Black Rooks I could buy it immediately and the site would be faster and much more reliable immediately as well (which is an undoubtful benefit for everyone and also brings a possibility to launch new services and enhancements without worrying about the site performance). With standard membership payments, I would have to wait for several years to accomplish the same deal. Yes, the final sum would be higher but the faster availability of the resources is more important. Anyway, any help and support is always welcome, of course.
Pythagoras: I agree that in the end it does hurt Brain King, but Fencer's point about the short term help is very valid. Almost all companies that sell membership have some form of a discount to increase immediate profits. I personally wouldn't have given a lifetime membership for the equivalent of 5 or 10 years. I would have done it for the equivalent of 25 or 30 years or had something like buy five years, get two more free.
gambler104: . . . I personally wouldn't have given a lifetime membership for the equivalent of 5 or 10 years. I would have done it for the equivalent of 25 or 30 years
And the result would be that no one would purchase it....! ♫♪♫♪♫♪♪♫
gambler104: I'll probably stick with one year at a time. I have trouble believing the internet will be much as it is today or that my interests won't change in six years. If I get the money and don't mind being wrong, I'd certainly get the lifetime membership. It seems like a good deal to me. This site is still best that I've seen so far in a lot of ways. Plus the owner is a hands on guy that actually exists and talks to us. As Fencer points out, he can make capital investments now which might make him more money than he'll lose years later from the few people that buy the lifetime memberships.
gambler104: Actually, the Black rook helps BK in the end. With Black Rook funds up front, there is more money for immediately for needed applications and hardware resulting in more members over time -- so the investment on Fencer's part is stategically sound.
If only one piece can move to the marked square, the full move is performed immediately without waiting for the opponent's choice (because there is only one possibility).
Isn't this Auto-Pass?
(I believe it's time for me to run and hide from Fencer...lol)
I went into game link in checkers variant board, and now all i get is all different langages.Iwent into my format and i can't change it back to English.
what does the rich text editor do? i know what rich text is, but i don't see any more way to enter it in the rich text editor than i do in the plain text editor.
is it just for pasting in rich text from another application or something?
CRY ME A RIVER: It was probably just a link to a persons game of a different language so it changed your settings so you could read it? I'm no expert but I don't think the person who put the link would have done it intentionally. If a Czech person (for example) clicked on a link you placed it would take them to an English setting page and would alter their settings too I imagine.
Where is this rich text editor?? Is it part of brainking? or is it something on your computers? (I ask because I'm on WebTV) I assumed the way to get the colors and size changes and stuff was typing in the HTML manually. Is there a way on the site to do it easier?
LOL.. I'm confused. Probably just a computer thing though.
rod03801: just above the window you type in it should say 'switch to rich text editor'. When you click on that a number of buttons will appear above this window. With one you can choose text size and with another text color. The rest are pretty much a mystery to me LOL
plaintiger: Maybe it's more user friendly for windows? Don't you have a mac? After you change to text editor, it should give you a toolbar with different fonts and things just above the box. You don't have that?
plaintiger: Requires: IE5.5+/Mozilla 1.3+/Firefox 0.6.1+/Netscape 7.1+/Mac Safari/Opera 9+, or any other browser that fully supports designMode() for rich-text features. All other browsers will display a standard textarea box instead.
That is taken from the site the rich text editor is based from - so I would guess those requirements would be similar after Fencer's modifications on it.
BIG BAD WOLF: the only thing i had disabled in JavaScript was "show context menus" and i've enabled that just in case and it's made no difference.
but this is not the first time i've run into a JavaScript thingy that doesn't work right in Safari. i've had all Safari's JavaScript options turned on for years and sometimes a page will still throw up an error saying i need to turn on JavaScript in my browser to see the content. i don't know what Apple's doing wrong there, but it seems to be something...
i figured that's what i should see. that's what i expect to see in a rich text editor (i'm very computer-savvy). but i don't see it.
