ClayNashvilleTn: rATHER GENEROUS OF YOU i MUST SAY :) oops sorry caps.....I hope you dont join your own tournaments :( I joined my prize tournaments and got shouted out LOLOL...what and how would you explain winning? You have good number joining tho...congrats :)
well you should be able to stay in your own tournament clay , alot of the prize tournaments that has had a prize of somesort has also had the creators in them ... if you won one of them you could always donate it to a good cause
harley:hehehehe I am really trying not to get destroyed in my own tournament! Have you seen some of those "BIG" BKR's.........Zowie the BIG GUNS are signing up!
ClayNashvilleTn: I agree with Harley but have found it better if you dont join...In regards to big BKR's LOLOL....desperate for a quid (dollar)...$64.50 Australian today but by the time Fencer took charges etc out of it, there wouldnt be too much left I dont think. Going by what has been said about charges in the Czech Rep. :(
Interested in playing Tablut? Sign up for my beginners Tablut series of tournaments for players with 1500 BKR or less (unrated is allowed).
There are 10 tournaments in all, starting each week for the next 9 weeks (the first tournament started last Monday) and the winners of each one will be invited to a final Beginners Tablut event which will start at the end of tournament #10.
If the same person wins two events, the place in the final will be awarded to the runner up of the later tournament.
There is no physical prize, other than the reward for playing such a great game and the chance to win a tournament against other new (or poor, or both!) players.
I've seen lots of tournaments where the tournament creator states that pawns and knight must have 10 available slots to enter the tournamente. However some of those have a maximum of 8 players per section with 2 games between each player, giving a maximum of 14 possible games on one section for each player.
So how many free slots does a pawn really need to enroll in such tournaments?
Yea, it's just how Fencer has it programed - to make it easy, it just looks for 5 free game slots for "1 game per 2 players", and 10 free game slots for "2 games per 2 players" .... even if more or less game slots are needed.
(So a pawn may have 10 free game slots, start a tournament and add 14 games bringing the total to 24 games, which they would then need to get the total back down below 20 before starting any new after that.)
JamesHird: Which brings up a good point.
I played every day for two years as a pawn and never entered a tournament.
Played several weeks after paying and never did.
For some reason some people are reluctant to participate in tourneys.
I was slow to get involved and was leery of tournaments. I only read GC and didn't see much said about them. Wasn't even sure that I could, if I didn't belong to a F/S.
There are a lot of misconceptions, as to who can do what or when.
I have asked pawn friends to get involved and most all seem to be afraid.
Nothing at all to be afraid of. The one thing pawns should be aware of though is that they are tied to that tournament until it's completion, unless they've completed all their games and are taking no further part in the tourney and they talk very nicely to Fencer who might release them.
Hrqls: The smile page still hasn't been updated to show what a 141 is, so I hope that's a nice smiley...
ClayNashvilleTn: The misconceptions appear at any site... Most people just don't bother trying all the links. "New game" is the only link that some of the players around here know...
im still locked out of a tourney even as a member, b/c i cant enter more than 1 version of that game. im in espionage and i won my section almost immediately, and the other section hasnt even scratched the surface of their 1st round games yet.isnt there a way to get into another tourney while i wait. it could possibly last over a year before i can enter another tourney.
Nothingness: I do not believe that there is a way to get into another Espionage tourney, since you are still in your current one, other than upgrading to a rook. ;-)
I agree. I hate tournaments ending in a tie..
Why would they be endless? Wouldn't it be possible to have those people remaining play a 2 win match to decide? (I think the 3 win matches when there are only 2 people, are too much)
rod03801: If you have a round with only 1 section containing 4 players (for example) and all of them would be the winners, the next round would be exactly the same.
Doesn't seem like it would happen that often though..
I just hate ties! LOL...
I wasn't taking into consideration more than 2 people involved in the tie.. The 2 win match to break the tie, obviously wouldn't work in situations with 3 or more people..
Fencer: An extra round or two would be better than an automatic tie. Ties are ok, but not when there hasn't been any attempt at all to break it. In my case, partica & I never faced each other in the tournament we were co-winners of. That is a travesty. We should have faced each other AT LEAST once before a tie was declared.
Thad: True Thad, sometimes there is a tie.
But I think the point is, they keep going until it is 1 against 1.
Having two winners in a tourament is kinda pointless though when they havent even had the chance to play a round with just the 2 of them dont you think?
BeaverBoy: You are wrong, Beaverboy. Tournaments at ITY do not always go until there is a winner. I know there are tournaments listed in their history that have two winners. If I knew the date of one, I would post it here, but offhand, I do not. I will try and go back and find one when I get a chance so you'll have proof.
PS: 3 rounds with just 2 players ain't any big deal. I've gone nine rounds there more than once. And I know I've gone at least five with just one other player. ;-)
Some tournaments end in a tie but I think there is always a winner.
I was in one that just ended and it was a three way tie but because I had the lowest BKR of all of us it gave me the win of the tournament :o)
Thad: No offense Thad, but the rules at IYT state there can be ties for sections, but:
"When all games in all sections are completed, the players who scored highest in their sections advance to the next round, where they are placed in new sections. The process repeats until there is a single champion for each game type within a tournament."
There was a Keryo tourney I saw there went 10 rounds, the last 6 or 7 or which were between just 3 guys, but a winner finally emerged. Ask "Steve (who sometimes waits until round 10 to lose)"
Anyway, who cares, that's IYT - I agree with your point though, ties suck - maybe Fencer could allow an option (like time limit options) to set whether a tourney can end in a tie or not?
