Thad: in real time tournament (playing in clubs in the so called real world (yes there is a world beyond this one! ;)) ... are winners determined by their s-b points as well .. or will players who won an equal amount of games win together ?

14. June 2005, 20:14:57
Pedro Martínez
I am against removing s-b. It prefers win against better players to wins against lower rated players and I like it that way. And to answer Hrqls's question, yes, of course it is used, it's not a BK speciality...

Pedro Martínez: But if you compare losses, it doesn't make sensse. If we use the section I mentioned a few posts down, JackS & I each ended up with only one loss and everyone else had more. Clearly we will finish 1-2. JackS lost to me, so he lost to either the first or second place guy. I, on the other hand, lost ot a lesser ranked player. when you look at it that way, it seems that JackS should advance.

S-Bs work when everyone does not play everyone else. For example, it would work in the NFL where every team does not play every other team. It is essentially a measurement of strenght of schedule. But since it's used here at BK inside sections, where we all play each other, it is meaningless.

i won the following 2 tournaments via the s-b points

http://brainking.com/nl/Tournaments?tri=22439
http://brainking.com/nl/Tournaments?tri=21880

the funny thing is the first i won against someone with a lower bkr and a lower seed
the second one i won against someone with a higher bkr and higher seed

(of course the bkrs are useless as they have changed, but the seeds havent, so their bkr was already lower and higher than mine at that time)

Congratulations to Robsaranga - the first winner of a beginners tablut tournament, winning event #4 - http://brainking.com/en/Tournaments?trg=8474&u=14258&trnst=10&tp=19

He will be the first invitation to the final event.

Event #10 has yet to start, so for those not yet entered into the beginners tablut series, you've got just under a week to get involved!

Thad: That's an excellent point, Thad - it really is meaningless.

If the win/loss is the same, just play the tiebreaker round. How is that not the fairest way?

I really don't understand how the finish in section 2 of http://brainking.com/en/Tournaments?tri=45268#2
happend. Care to break it down for me? If we got rid of the S-B, then we both would have moved on due to points.

Backoff: I'll break it down for you.

Section #2:

Player 1 - 2 wins
Player 2 - 5 wins
Player 3 - 2 wins
Player 4 - 3 wins
Player 5 - 5 wins
Player 6 - 0 wins
Player 7 - 3 wins

So so to figure out S-B's
Player 1 - won against player 4 & 6. Player 4 had 3 wins. Player 6 had 0 wins. So 3+0 = 3. 3 S-B

Player 2 - won against player 1,3,5,6,7 = 2+3+5+0+3= 13. 13 S-B

Player 3 - won against 1,4,6 = 2+3+0= 5.

Player 4 - won against 2,6,7 = 5+0+3= 8

Player 5 - won against 1,3,4,6,7 = 2+3+3+0+3= 11

Player 6 - no wins = 0

Player 7 - won against 1,3,6 = 2+3+0= 5

It use to be nice on *cough* that when 2 people had equal points they both went through, sometimes even more. Is it possible that the use of SB to determine the outcome of a scetion be optional.

OK... in my quick players club backgammon open 1
http://brainking.com/game/Tournaments?tri=46946

I was looking at the players who havent finished any games yet, and noticed that some have only made like 3 moves oin any one game so far, and there is one person who was playing along in a game until they find they will lose and now has refused to make their next turn.

know that nobody has broken the game paramaters, but you are breaking the spirit of the tournament. These are supposed to be fast games making many moves per day if they are waiting for your next move. know we are not always able to play super fast ( I was just away for the weekend myself) But if you are online I expect you to play your games in this tournament , and not to purposly stall.

If this continues you will be banned from any future tournaments of this type.

PLease dont ruin it for those of us who truely want a faster tournament. Thanks!

Grim Reaper: The option is only there when you first set up the tournament. Once the tournament is setup, you can not go back and change the days off settings.

When setting up a new tournament, you will be given 3 choices:

standard vacation
fixed weekend only
no days off
