Bry: Ah, no vacation, that helps some, but its not really a championship without all the best players :) I understand that it doesnt really matter how long it takes, but it is just too frustrating when 1 or 2 people take the full limits to make a move, and its just not worth it.
Bry: Does anyone "really" need 21 days to play amove in backgammon? I mean, really? I think you are only encouraging someone to join just to play head games and see how long they can drag the tournament out.....
Czuch Chuckers: i like the long time on it so i can still join the tournament although i will be on holiday soon
(i didnt join the last though as 21 days is just too little .. with the weekend days added i could barely make it .. but i dont want to be forced right back to the computer when i get back :))
for rooks it shouldnt matter how long the time limit is .. it isnt a minimum time per move .. so most games are rather fast
there are more tournaments with faster times so they can be used as well ... but there might be more people who cant join such a tournament because of the fast timeouts .. a real championship should give everyone the opportunity to join .. thats why i like the long time per move as well :)
Hrqls: I want your life.... taking 2, 21+ day holidays/year! I am lucky to get 5 days together. And rarely am I lucky enough to be somewhere where I cant get internet access to play one move in a backgammon game.
i get 5*5+13 days per year .... 5 weeks holiday, and 13 special days .. most specials days are fixed already .. but some are left for me to spend, the 5 weeks can be taken in parts as well :)
on holiday i wont be on the internet at all .. even when i can i wont .. it wont be a holiday that way :) .. i often track around in holidays in other countries
again .. i thought i was on the chat board .. end of the week .. i see numbers everywhere :)
I have 5 slots available and would like to know about how many I should have before I run off and take the tournament world by storm. Does it depend on the tourney?
Why is it necessary to create tournaments not set to start until the end of 2006???? 557 tournaments??? The whole page won't even load for me. (And what does load takes quite a while to do so..) Thank goodness only a few people have done this, or we could have thousands of tournaments on that page.
Just curious what the answer is.. My first thought is they just like seeing their tournament featured in the little green box on the main page that advertises tournaments to sign up for.. The more you have, the higher the odds of it being yours listed there..
rod03801: yeah. I know there are Tournies there that are not going to start for nearly 2 years. Maybe we sholud ask fencer to put a sensible time limit on it.
How many people may sign up now, and be pawns, or maybe even leave the site by then, that would wreck the tournies too.
rod03801: I agree. I think it would be easier to just show the (let say) 50 tourtnaments/ponds on one page (and still let people see the tournaments/ponds which start later.
rod03801: or group them to the person that created them ,like in the waiting games area , you would have to click the link to open all the tournaments a person has created
The problem with these unrestricted creations is that Rook members can set up a tournament on a proposed starting date that far exceeds their membership. Kata, for example, is a member through June 2006, but has set up events that are not scheduled to begin for over 500 days!!? If she does not renew her membership, is there some mechanism to automatically cancel these remaining events? If not, isn't this an abuse of the system? Furthermore, isn't it a bit absurd to arrange tournaments that won't begin for more than 500 days from now? Wouldn't it be more reasonable to have a cutoff, say, 3 months or 6 months?
Also, since gammon tournaments are so popular, perhaps a separate page should be made just for those tournament types. Some of us are not interested in gammon, but we have to wade through the extensive listings to get to those we do want. Selecting a particular game type to display is not really a solution, it is tedious, too.
redfrog: "Selecting a particular game type to display is not really a solution"
I agree with Pioneer - there are a bunch of different variations on a few main game types here. There should just be 7 new filters, one for each group already defined on the New Game page.
That should be easy, right Fencer? Maybe even an 8th one just for Pente variations???? Just kidding... kinda...
tournies that had aready started now have (no days off). At least to me this is not right. If I wanted to play in tournies that had no days off I would have signed up for them. So now what is going on here changing rule after something has started. I see on the BK board that they say lots of people are leaving this site or just not renewing. This may have something to do with it. It like changing horses in the middle of the stream u can get wet most of the time. So now guess if I don't want to play in tournies that have changed. Guess some people playing me may get lots of win over the rules changing.
mrloupcity: Tournament creators have no way to change the type of days off a tournament has - so all tournament should have the same "days off" rules that where there when they started.
If you see something you think has been changed - it may be a bug, but nothing should be changing after it is created.
BIG BAD WOLF: I did not join any tournies that I could not take days off. So then I guess it has to be a bug. With the things going here at the house I have to be able to take days off. Well guess when I run out of vac days I'll be SOL and poele will get free wins. BBW thxs for repling.
is the RED DOTS where not there yesterday. But now there are. TYVM for the time to write. Now back off the board. And to my corner. So that way will say out of every1s bis.
mrloupcity: games with no days off have been implemented here some weeks ago, but the red dots only showed in the game invitation and in the tournament list, where you probably overlooked it.
It's new that the red dot is also shown in your game list, to make it easier for you to find these games, but the games themselves were no-days-off games from the start.
If that is the case, then the time is using the new Fischer's clock time control, which in all Fischer clock games - holidays/weekends/vacations are not used. (That has been listed in the Time Help Section since the Fischer's clock was introduced.)
But because all of those games did not have days off, Fencer at first did not have the red dot next to those tournaments - since all would have no time off it did not make a difference. But I believe he added them recently so it would be easier to see by everyone since not everyone will go read the help about the new time control.
So you are right that it probable did not say "no time off" when you signed up - but all games using Fisher's clock has not vacation or weekend days.
